First Full Trailer for RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION

by     Posted 1 year, 307 days ago

We posted a teaser trailer for the fifth installment of the Resident Evil franchise back in January, but now the first full trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution has landed.  I’ve only ever seen the first film in the series, so I’m all kinds of confused by this trailer for the fifth installment.  That said, action looks to be front and center here and I doubt Resident Evil fans will be disappointed by this trailer.  Moreover, this new film brings back at least a few cast members that perished earlier in the series so Retribution may act as sort of a throwback for diehard fans.  If you missed any of Steve’s set visit coverage, including interviews with director Paul W.S. Anderson and the cast, click here.

Resident Evil: Retribution stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Kevin Durand, Boris Kodjoe, Shawn Roberts, Colin Salmon, Johann Urb and Li Bingbing. RE5 opens September 14th.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Ali Larter Interview RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE 3D

by     Posted 3 years, 258 days ago

In the last Resident Evil film, Alice (Milla Jovovich) met a survivor of the virus infection, named Claire Redfield (Ali Larter). In the fourth installment of the franchise, Claire has found a way to survive the very traumatic experience she went through, but she has lost some of her memory and is trying to figure out who she can trust again. There is even the introduction of Claire’s brother from the video games, which presents even more issues, as she figures out if he is who he is.

While at Comic-Con, actress Ali Larter spoke at a roundtable about how much she loves doing action and stunts, what it was like to work with the 3D technology and how much fun it is to play such strong women. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

The other day I posted my Resident Evil: Afterlife set visit and a lot of onset interviews.  Today, Entertainment Tonight Canada posted a short video about their set visit.  If you read my report or know anything about the movie, you’re not going to learn much by watching the video as ET always aims for the casual movie viewer.  Saying that, if you’d like to see Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter or Shawn Roberts talk about their characters and the movie…hit the jump.  Thanks to Collider reader CM for the tip.

RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE Set Visit – Collider Goes to Toronto to Watch Milla Jovovich Kick Umbrella’s Ass

Milla Jovovich is angry.  For some reason, an Umbrella security guard thinks he can take out this force of nature.  Clearly, he made a mistake, as Milla does a quick circle kick and the guard flies backwards out of frame.  While Milla looked angry during the shot, as soon as the cameras stopped rolling, the star of the Resident Evil franchise was all smiles and joking around with the crew on the set of the latest sequel, Resident Evil: Afterlife.

But let me back up a moment.  It’s Saturday, November 14th, 2009 and I’m sitting on the floor of the Toronto International Airport waiting to fly home.  I’m here in Toronto because Screen Gems is shooting the 4th Resident Evil movie here and thanks to our partners at Omelete, I spent all day yesterday on the set of the latest installment.  I got to see the way they’re filming the movie (which is the first one in 3D), interview the entire cast, learn the challenges of trying to make a movie while pushing the boundaries of film technology, and I learned a lot about what fans can expect in the next chapter of Resident Evil.  It was a great set visit and I’m excited to share my adventure after the jump:

Last year I got to visit the set of Resident Evil: Afterlife when the movie was filming in Toronto.  Now that Screen Gems has lifted the embargo, my goal is to post my set report and a few of the onset interviews later tonight.  Since the studio has only released a few official images from the movie, I decided to grab a bunch from the trailer to add to my interview articles and you can check them out after the jump.  Look for a lot more on Resident Evil: Afterlife later tonight:

First RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE Trailer

The first trailer for Screen Gems Resident Evil: Afterlife has hit the net and if you’re a fan of the Resident Evil franchise, you’re going to like the trailer as it features a lot of action.  Also, unlike some movies that say coming to you in 3D at the end, the RE: Afterlife trailer makes a huge point to let you know it was filmed in 3D using the cameras James Cameron created and used on Avatar.

I actually did a set visit on Resident Evil: Afterlife last year and got to see the cameras up close, as well as talk to the people making the film.  There is no doubt in my mind this movie is going to look very cool in 3D and be loads better than the post converted movies like Clash of the Titans and Alice in Wonderland.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer and look for my set visit and interviews very soon:

With Sony Screen Gems premiering the 3D red band trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife this Friday night at Wonder Con, it’s no surprise the promotional machine has ramped up with the release of the first images from the movie (thanks to MySpace).  Starring Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Spencer Locke, Wentworth Miller, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Kim Coates, Norman Yeung and Kasey Barnfield, RE: Afterlife continues the adventures of Alice in the world of the undead.

While many films made in 2D are getting released in 3D, Resident Evil: Afterlife was filmed using 3D cameras.  What that means is…this thing is going to look awesome in 3D!  Hit the jump to check out the first images and look for the trailer this Saturday at 2:15pm.

Director Martin Campbell Exclusive Interview EDGE OF DARKNESS

by     Posted 4 years, 80 days ago

Martin Campbell image (2).jpgOpening tomorrow is director Martin Campbell’s (Casino Royale) Edge of Darkness.  A GK Films Production based on the BAFTA Award-winning BBC miniseries of the same name (which Campbell directed), Edge of Darkness is about a homicide detective whose daughter is gunned down on his front steps.  When he starts to look into what really happened, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence.  The film stars Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic and Shawn Roberts and it’s been written by William Monahan (The Departed) and Andrew Bovell (Lantana), based on the original television series written by Troy Kennedy Martin.

To help promote the film, I got to do an exclusive interview with director Martin Campbell. We talked about why he wanted to revisit the material, working with Mel Gibson, filming in Boston (and why he didn’t have any Dunkin Donuts in the movie), deleted scenes, and, of course, we talked about his next film, Green Lantern.  Hit the jump to read what he had to say:

To help promote the film, I recently participated in a press conference with Gibson, Winstone, Director Martin Campbell and Producer Graham King.  If you’re a Mel Gibson fan, you’ll really like this interview as almost all the questions were directed at him.  Gibson talks about everything from making the movie to whether or not he’ll be in Mad Max 4 and his Viking movie.  Hit the jump to read the transcript.

I LOVE YOU BETH COOPER Blu-ray Review

Chris Columbus used to have a magic touch. Sure, you might not have liked the movies, but he was the hand behind the first two Home Alone movies and the first two Harry Potter films. He’s had misfires, for sure, but his first major script was Gremlins. Gremlins. But when you look at his filmography he goes from highs to lows, but there’s something of a chance-taker in him too. He was the guy who wanted to direct Rent, for god’s sake. And though his plastic hands have released such odious affairs as Stepmom and Bicentennial Man, he’s not a filmmaker to write off. My review of his latest – I Love You Beth Cooper – after the jump.

First Trailer and Poster for Mel Gibson’s EDGE OF DARKNESS – Written by William Monahan and Directed by Martin Campbell

Director Martin Campbell’s (“Casino Royale”) “Edge of Darkness” has finally got a trailer and if you’re a fan of Mel Gibson kicking ass, I’m pretty sure you’re going to like this movie. The other reason this film should be on your radar is William Monahan (“The Departed”) wrote the screenplay and the film takes place in Boston. The last time Monahan wrote a Boston based movie, I think we can all agree it turned out well.

The premise of “Edge of Darkness” is Mel Gibson plays a detective and after the sudden death of his activist daughter, he tries to find out why she was killed. He uncovers more than he bargained for. The film also stars Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic, and Shawn Roberts. Watch the trailer after the jump. Be warned: Mel is trying to pull off a Boston accent. I think it works.
