In 2004, there was Shaun of the Dead. In 2007, there was Hot Fuzz. Now, if Twitter is to be believed, there will soon be The World’s End. Writer/director Edgar Wright posted a picture on Twitter today titled only “Hard at work.” Next to him was writer/actor/super-spy-extraordinaire Simon Pegg, pondering the inevitability of The World’s End. Along with Nick Frost, the two have worked together on the above-mentioned films and have long-expressed the desire to complete the so-called “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy,” due to the presence of bloody violence and Cornetto ice cream in each movie. (It’s also called the “Three Flavours Trilogy” as red strawberry is featured in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz referenced a blue Classic flavor. The World’s End is said to showcase green mint chocolate chip.) While plot details are short at the moment, fans will want to hit the jump to check out the dynamic duo hard at work.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Star Trek 2 is on officially on the way. Paramount Pictures has announced that production has commenced on director J.J. Abrams’ follow-up to the fantastically awesome 2009 sci-fi pic Star Trek. We’ve got John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin all reprising their roles from the first film, and in an inspired bit of casting, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch is onboard as the film’s villain. Joining Cumberbatch in the Star Trek newbie circle are Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

Development on the sequel hasn’t been without its fair share of drama (Benicio Del Toro dropped out of the villain role weeks before filming began), but it’s reassuring to know that production has finally begun. The script was written by Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof, and composer Michael Giacchino will indeed return to score the pic (huzzah!). The currently untitled sequel will be post-converted to 3D and is set for release on May 17th, 2013. Hit the jump to read the full press release.

In Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, actor Jeremy Renner plays Agent William Brandt, an analyst who is more desk jockey than field agent. When Impossible Missions Force (IMF) operative Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, he is disavowed, along with the rest of the agency, when the President initiates “Ghost Protocol.” Left with only a team of fellow IMF fugitives – including Brandt, Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and Jane Carter (Paula Patton) – whose personal motives are unclear, Hunt must find a way to clear the agency’s name and prevent another attack.

At the film’s press day, Jeremy Renner talked about playing a character whose motives may be questionable, how great it is to be a part of such a successful franchise, getting in shape for the physical demands of the role, and how Tom Cruise has helped him prepare for any future action work he’ll have to do. He also talked about currently filming The Bourne Legacy, his work in The Avengers, what attracted him to the James Gray film Low Life, and the process of developing a Steve McQueen biopic. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Fans of trio Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost have been anxiously awaiting any fresh developments on the final installment of their “Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy, The World’s End.  The first two films were Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and the trilogy has its name due to the presence of bloody violence and Cornetto ice cream.  In March 2009, Pegg said they were planning to shoot The World’s End in the fall, but obviously that never came to fruition.  In June of this year, Pegg said he and Wright were aiming to get started on the script, and now it looks like they’ve completed at least their first draft.  Hit the jump for more.

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: December 8th, 2011 at 4:40 pm

A batch of new images and a new clip from Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol has been released. The film is the fourth entry in the ever-changing Mission: Impossible franchise and finds Tom Cruise and his team going undercover in order to clear they’re name. I’m excited about this movie for a few reasons: director Brad Bird (The Incredibles) is making his live-action debut, Simon Pegg is swell, and judging from the trailers the pic looks to be an engaging and fun action flick. The supporting cast is pretty impressive as well, with Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Tom Wilkinson, Josh Holloway, and Michael Nyqvist rounding out the cast.

Hit the jump to check out the clip and images. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens in IMAX and conventional theaters on December 16th.

New Clips for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL Highlight New Cast Member Jeremy Renner

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: November 21st, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Paramount has released two new clips for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.  The primary purpose seems to be to highlight the new character played by Jeremy Renner.  In one clip, Renner banters capably with Simon Pegg; in the next, he gets in on the action in a scene aptly titled “Fan Jump.”  In the footage we’ve seen so far, Renner fits in well in the Mission: Impossible world.  That spells good things for this movie, obviously, but is especially good news since it was rumored early on that Renner may assume the lead in future Mission: Impossible films.

Focusing on the present, Tom Cruise is still the headliner of what looks to be one of the more entertaining releases this holiday season. Paula Patton, Josh Holloway, Michael Nyqvist, Lea Seydoux, and Tom Wilkinson join Renner and Pegg in the supporting cast.  Directed by Brad Bird, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens on December 16.  Watch the clips after the break.

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: November 16th, 2011 at 3:35 pm

With the holiday movie season upon us, a few new images from some of the upcoming Oscar contenders have been unveiled. We’ve got a new look at Michael Fassbender in the extremely well-received drama Shame. Fassbender plays a sex-addict opposite Carey Mulligan, and our own Matt Goldberg loved the flick. There’s also a new image of Rooney Mara from David Fincher’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, another look at Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, and an ominous image of Gary Oldman from the spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Additionally, we’ve got another look at Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, and an image of Sandra Bullock and Thomas Horn in the adaptation of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

But that’s not all! We’ve also got new images from We Bought a Zoo, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Haywire, Underworld: Awakening, In the Land of Blood and Honey, New Year’s Eve, and One for the Money. Hit the jump to check them out.

First Image of Simon Pegg in A FANTASTIC FEAR OF EVERYTHING

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: October 24th, 2011 at 8:11 pm

A Fantastic Fear of Everything is the first effort from Pinewood Films’ initiative to finance low-budget independent British films.  They are off to a good start—at least in terms of the interests of this site—by kicking things off with a Simon Pegg vehicle.  Pegg plays Jack, a children’s author turned crime novelist obsessed with Victorian serial killers: “When Jack is thrown a life-line by his long-suffering agent and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in his script, what should be his ‘big break’ rapidly turns into his ‘big breakdown’.”  Tonight we have our first look at Pegg’s wild-haired Jack, knife in tow.

Alan Drake, Amara Karan, Clare Higgins, Sheridan Smith also star in A Fantastic Fear of EverythingCrispian Mills and Chris Hopewell are directing from a script by Mills.  The image is pretty small, but there’s a bit more torso to see after the jump.  As added incentive, we’ve included a lengthy synopsis.

New Trailer for THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN

by Dave Trumbore    Posted: October 17th, 2011 at 5:15 pm

Earlier this month, we posted five short clips from Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin. Just today we brought you a new official poster and some fan-made opening credits. Now, we have the new trailer for the mo-cap project that showcases a bit more action than the UK one that posted recently.

The Adventures of Tintin is based on one of the most popular comic book series in Europe and as such, will open in the UK on October 26th. Since our American sensibilities need some time to warm up to this foreign hero, the film will open stateside on December 21st. The Adventures of Tintin stars Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig and was produced by Spielberg and Sir Peter Jackson. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

5 Clips from Steven Spielberg’s THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: October 11th, 2011 at 11:24 am

A whole slew of goodies from Steven Spielberg’s upcoming performance-capture film The Adventures of Tintin have been unveiled today. Five new clips from the pic have debuted, as well as a few behind-the-scenes videos documenting the performance-capture filming process. Each new piece of material I see for the film looks better and better, and these videos are no exception. The clips are fantastic. This really feels like a good old-fashioned adventure pic in the vein of Indiana Jones, with incredible visuals to boot. The performance-capture doesn’t look rubbery at all, but it’s as if Herge’s cartoons have literally come to life. The behind-the-scenes videos are pretty great as well, giving us a look inside “The Volume” where the film was created (much the same as James Cameron’s Avatar). We also get a glimpse inside Spielberg’s process with the new format, and his collaboration with Peter Jackson.  [Update: We were asked to take down the behind-the-scenes videos.  Sorry if you missed them.]

Hit the jump to watch the videos. Written by Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, and Steven Moffat, the film stars Jamie Bell, Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis, Nick Frost, and Simon Pegg. The Adventures of Tintin opens in 3D on December 21st.

New UK Trailer for THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: October 5th, 2011 at 7:30 am

A new UK trailer for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin has gone online.  It’s become pretty clear by now that Tintin is his spiritual sequel to the Indiana Jones movies, not Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  The set-pieces on display look tremendous and I’m excited to see how they’ll play on the big screen as opposed to my computer monitor.  I also applaud Tintin (voiced and mo-capped by Jamie Bell) for using every part of the motorcycle.  I’m tired of wasteful bikers.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Daniel Craig.  The Adventures of Tintin opens in 3D in the UK on October 26th and in the US on December 21st.
