Horror aficionados expect a select set of conventions to be executed well for a slasher film to be considered “good.” We expect certain types: the slut, the jock, the token ethnic person (Asian, in this case) and their early demise, the “final girl,” etc. We expect a number of red herrings. We expect some exploitative elements–the nudity and violence. We even appreciate a few genuine scares, though even that’s not crucial (horror aficionados are too jaded to get genuinely scared anyway).
So does Sorority Row deliver on these counts? The answer’s less simple than you think. Find out why after the jump.

I admit it: I never see Tyler Perry coming. The writer/director who has watched six of his eight feature films open at number one at the domestic box office always sneaks up on me somehow. So while I was busy watching “Inglourious Basterds” crawl past $100 million this week, Perry’s latest Madea-melodrama had an unchallenged run at the top spot once again. Meanwhile, other new releases like the Kate Beckinsale thriller “Whiteout” had less success finding a fanbase, leaving “I Can Do Bad” to rack up $24 million for Perry’s third-highest opening to date.
| Title | Weekend | Total | |
| 1 | I Can Do Bad | $24,000,000 | $24,000,000 |
| 2 | 9 | $10,900,000 | $15,264,000 |
| 3 | Inglourious Basterds | $6,546,000 | $104,309,000 |
| 4 | All About Steve | $5,800,000 | $21,812,000 |
| 5 | Final Destination | $5,500,000 | $58,258,000 |
| 6 | Sorority Row | $5,268,000 | $5,268,000 |
| 7 | Whiteout | $5,100,000 | $5,100,000 |
| 8 | District 9 | $3,600,000 | $108,517,000 |

Opening tomorrow is “Sorority Row” and it stars Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Audrina Patridge, and Carrie Fisher. The film is about five sorority girls that inadvertently cause the murder of one of their sisters in a prank gone wrong. They agree to keep the matter to themselves and never speak of it again, so they can get on with their lives. This proves easier said than done, when after graduation a mysterious killer goes after the five of them and anyone who knows their secret…
Anyway, I recently spoke to Rumer Willis and Jamie Chung. During the interview, we talked about what they did on set, working with Carrie Fisher, the promotional process, filming in Pittsburgh, and Jamie talks about what she’s had to do for Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch”. By now you’ve probably seen a commercial or heard about it as Summit Entertainment has been promoting the hell out of the film for the past six months. But if you haven’t, it’s about five sorority girls that inadvertently cause the murder of one of their sisters in a prank gone wrong. Anyway, to help promote the film, I recently spoke to Briana Evigan and Leah Pipes and it’s after the jump. During the interview we talked about all the traveling they’ve done to promote the film, what was it like on set, filming in Pittsburgh, how close they are to who they played and a lot more. Three new posters for “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans”, “Sorority Row” and Spike Jonze “Where the Wild Things Are” have hit the internet and rather than post separate articles on each one, I’ve placed all of them in one place. Am I lazy? Yes. But it’s a lot easier to see them this way.
Of the three posters, the only one that could end up on my wall is “Where the Wild Things Are”. I cannot see this movie soon enough. Anyway, click the jump to check out the posters:

Anyway, we’ve been provided with 7 clips to help promote the film and you can watch them after the jump. Take a look:

Last year was my first time visiting Comic-Con. This year I am ready. I am pumped. I am bringing a large bodyguard who will push tiny nerds out of my way so I can grab more swag.
The official Comic-Con website has just posted the schedule for Thursday and for Wednesday’s “Preview Night”, which you can only attending if you’ve purchased a four-day pass. Friday and Saturday tend to be the Con’s biggest days with the largest events but Thursday and Sunday are no slouches. I’ve included the full schedule for Thursday, July 23rd after the jump and highlighted what I think may be worth your time (although my interests skew more towards movies and television as opposed to comics, action figures, and games). Keep checking back as the schedules for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will most likely be announced over the next few days.
