Now that his hit HBO series Entourage has finished filming its final season, actor Jeremy Piven said that he’s just trying to impress his nieces. Taking a variety of roles in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World – the most notable of which is the mysterious Timekeeper – is sure to help him, in that regard. In the film, Timekeeper is angry at the world for squandering time and wants to steal it back, believing that he could do more valuable things with it. He feels that families don’t use their time together wisely and, as such, he is a super-villain with family values.

At the film’s press day, Jeremy Piven talked about the appeal of playing a handful of different characters that show his range, all in the same film, being the misunderstood villain, how comfortable he is with green screen work, and how much fun he had working with Jessica Alba. He also talked about how totally fulfilled and grateful he is for his experience on Entourage, how satisfying it was to humanize Ari Gold, his desire to return to the theater for the right role, and how he’s hoping to impress his nieces again with a role opposite Miley Cyrus in the upcoming feature So Undercover. In Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, Joel McHale plays Wilbur, a famous spy-hunting television reporter who is married to retired secret agent Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba). The thing is, neither him nor his twin step kids (Rowan Blanchard, Mason Cook) know about Marissa’s past. But, when the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the planet, Marissa is called back into action and the kids learn that their boring stepmom was once a top agent. Thrust into action, the world’s most competitive 10-year-olds quickly learn to put their bickering aside and make use of some mind-blowing gadgets to help save the world.

At the film’s press day, Joel McHale talked about being one of the busiest guys in show business, juggling filming Spy Kids 4 with his NBC comedy Community and E!’s The Soup, how playing Jessica Alba’s husband felt like winning a prize in an auction, and how he’s not much of a practical joker. He also gave a little preview of what’s to come for fans of Community, and talked about being directed by Seth MacFarlane for Ted and acting with Steve Martin for The Big Year. In Spy Kids: All The Time In The World, actress Jessica Alba plays Marissa Cortez Wilson, a woman who is married to a famous spy-hunting television reporter, has a new baby, and is the mother of twin stepkids. A retired secret agent, Marissa keeps the secret form her husband Wilbur (Joel McHale), and his 10-year-olds, Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook), until the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the planet and she’s called back into action.

At the film’s press day, the very pregnant Jessica Alba talked about identifying with her character’s experience of being a new mom, why she enjoys collaborating with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez (they’ve also done Machete and Sin City together), what it’s like to balance work and motherhood and always feel like she’s sacrificing one for the other, and how none of the physical work she’s done has been as challenging as her TV show Dark Angel, so she’ll be seeking out an action movie once she’s ready to get back to work after having her second child. SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD To Be Released in 4D “Aromascope”

When Spy Kids 3D: Game Over came out in 2003, series director Robert Rodriguez was on the leading edge of the current 3D movement. With this summer’s release of the fourth movie in the franchise, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World will add a fourth dimension of experience…smell. In what Dimension Films is calling “Aromascope,” moviegoers will be provided a card with 8 different scents that can be sniffed at corresponding times throughout the film. Rodriguez gives his full endorsement to the technology in the official press release, saying:

“Families are going to love the interactivity of this new addition to the movie going experience. And best of all, you won’t have to pay extra for 4D Aromascope, which will be provided to every theater whether it be 2D or 3D.”

Since the spy kids from the first three movies (Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara) are all grown up now, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World will introduce two newcomers, Rowan Blanchard and Mason Cook as Rebecca and Cecil Wilson. Spy Kids also stars Jessica Alba, Joel McHale, Jeremy Piven and Ricky Gervais as the voice of Argonaut, a robotic dog. For more on the pic and another example of filmic “smell tactics,” hit the jump. Spy Kids: All the Time in the World hits theaters on August 19th.

Laura Linney to Star Opposite Bill Murray in HYDE PARK ON THE HUDSON; Ricky Gervais’ Voice Joins SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

Laura Linney HYDE PARK ON THE HUDSON; Ricky Gervais SPY KIDS ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD slice

Laura Linney (The Big C) will star alongside Bill Murray in Hyde Park on the Hudson.  The film focuses on FDR’s love affair with his cousin, Daisy, during a June weekend in 1939 when the British King and Queen visited Roosevelt’s upstate New York cottage in what was the first ever visit to America by a member of the British monarchy.  As we previously reported, the notoriously reclusive Bill Murray has signed on to star as FDR.  Now, Deadline reports that Linney has signed on to play FDR’s cousin/lover, Daisy.  I’ll watch anything with Bill Murray and it’ll be interesting to see who will end up playing Eleanor Roosevelt along with the King and Queen.  Roger Mitchell (Morning Glory) will direct the film.

In other casting news, Ricky Gervais has signed on to voice the character of Argonaut in the upcoming Spy Kids film, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.   In the press release Gervais said, “Not only am I lending my voice to Spy Kids, but they can keep it.  I’m sick of it.”  Not much is known about Argonaut besides the fact that he is a robot spy dog.  Gervais joins the cast which already includes Jessica Alba, Jeremy Piven, Joel McHale, Rowan Blanchard, Mason Cook, Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo , Alexa Vega, and Daryl Sabara.  Spy Kids: All the Time in the World opens on August 19, 2011 and it’s written and directed by Robert Rodriguez.  Hit the jump  for the synopsis.

Robert Rodriguez Talks SIN CITY 2, MACHETE, and the Next SPY KIDS Movie

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: December 20th, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Robert Rodriguez - slice.jpg

A few days ago, I got to speak with Robert Rodriguez in Austin, Texas as I was visiting the set of Predators – along with a number of online journalists.  While a strict embargo prevents me from saying anything about that film, we’ve been given permission to run stories on other projects.  Since Robert Rodriguez is busy developing other movies, we got him to give us updates on Sin City 2, Machete, and what’s up with the next Spy Kids movie.

Regarding Spy Kids, Rodriguez says he’s already turned in the script to the Weinstein Company and it’s a reboot that will be shot in March or April with new kids.  On Machete, he says he’s “always talked about making him a franchise character”.  Meaning he’s like to do sequels.

Of course the news everyone wants to know is what’s up with Sin City 2.  Like he’s done in the past, he wouldn’t give us any specifics regarding when the film is going in front of the cameras.  But he did reveal “there has been a script since 2007″ and it has pre-existing material “with some original stuff added to it to kind of catch yourself up with some characters.”

Rodriguez also said, “I know Frank (Miller) wants to do it I know I wanna do it and its always sort of time permitting kind of thing, but its not like I can tell you definitely we’re starting…its not my next picture…I know that. Doesn’t mean that its not the picture right after because that’s still a possibility.”  Much more after the jump:
