See What the New STAR TOURS 2.0 Disneyland Ride Looks Like

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: May 24th, 2011 at 9:26 pm

Disneyland is about to unveil the new Star Tours ride to the public on June 3.  At a recent private event, Jay West, LA Times Hero Complex contributor, taped his experience walking through the line and eventually viewing the new video.  Obviously, there are better ways to see a 3D-oriented ride for the first time, but the video is a good placeholder for those of us who can’t make it to Disneyland in the near future.  This seems like the type of thing that could be taken down quick, so watch while you still can after the break.

Tonight we’re bringing you three different bits of Star Wars news in one conveniently tidy package.  First up, we now know that the Star Wars Blu-ray collections (whose pre-orders we told you about a few weeks ago) will be released later this year on September 27th.  For those you of who held out on pre-ordering your copy until a firm release date was announced, you can finally push that excuse aside.  If you’re interested, you can pre-order Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray via this link to Amazon.  In case you only want to partake in either the Original Blu-ray Trilogy or the Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy, you can click here or here respectively.

Next, the Star Tours attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida will return from nine months of renovations on May 20th of this year.  Referred to as Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, Disney Parks Blog confirms that the 3D attraction will feature “new droids, a new Starspeeder, and a new pilot” in the form of C-3PO.  With all of this in the bag, hit the jump to learn about Liam Neeson’s reprised role as Qui-Gon Jinn in Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

First STAR TOURS II Video Shows Off Bespin, Endor and Alderaan (Which is the Safest Planet in the Galaxy)

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: August 12th, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Next year Disneyland and Disneyworld will be relaunching Star Tours at both parks.  While plenty of rumors have been online about where the new ride will go, thanks to Star Wars Celebration V taking place in Florida right now, Lucasfilm and Disney have released a new commercial that will be playing while you wait in line to get on the updated ride.  In the just over a minute clip, you get to quickly visit Bespin, Endor, and Alderaan – which has recently been voted the safest planet in the galaxy.  Star Wars fans will understand why that’s funny. While I always liked the Star Tours ride, I definitely think it was time for an upgrade.  Watch the video after the jump:

Check out the Trailer for Walt Disney’s STAR TOURS II

Years ago I heard rumors Disneyland and Disneyworld were going to update the Star Tours ride. After all, the ride was exactly the same since it launched back in 1987 and it definitely needed a paint job. But the prequels came and went, and the ride stayed the same. Until now.

At this weekend’s D23 convention, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo announced plans to update the ride and it’s going to launch in 2011 and it’ll be in 3D. While I’ve fallen out of love with “Star Wars”, I always liked the Star Tours ride and with the technology now available at Lucasfilm and Disney, I’d like to think the new ride is going to be awesome. Anyway, while we have to wait another two years to take it for a spin, Disney has launched a brief trailer and it’s after the jump:
