Back in January 2011, we reported that a rap album based on Adam McKay's Step Brothers was in the works. McKay tells The Playlist that they had signed Lukash [Gottwald], the producer behind hit songs by Katy Perry, Rihanna, Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, and of course "Boats n' Hoes", was on board to produce the album. "We actually wrote four or five raps, roughs of them, and were going to release the Step Brothers rap album," says McKay. "And I can't remember what happened, but right in the middle of it we suddenly got super busy and everyone had to walk away and it's never been revived. We actually were halfway through writing it and Lukash was giving us beats, and we were going to do it." Truly, this was a missed opportunity for Prestige Worldwide. But the album may hold the key to getting Step Brothers 2 back into production. Hit the jump for more.

Earlier this year, Will Ferrell told us that Anchorman 2 was dead, but a sequel to Step Brothers was a possibility. However, as we learned just a few weeks later, Anchorman 2 was very much alive and the highly-anticipated sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues, was set to go in front of cameras in early 2013. This put Step Brothers 2 on the back burner, and McKay isn't sure when he'll return to it. He tells The Playlist:
"Step Brothers 2 would have been fun, there's no doubt about it. Maybe someday. Does that idea age? I don't ...

Opening this weekend is Will Ferrell’s Spanish language comedy Casa de mi Padre. The film centers on Ferrell as Armando Alvarez, a Mexican rancher who must save his family’s farm while simultaneously fending off the drug lord, Onza, played by Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries) and winning the hand of the lovely Sonia, played by Genesis Rodriguez (Man on a Ledge). As Dave said, to sum it up in just a few words: passion, adventure, intrigue, betrayal, sex, danger, romance, guns, cigarettes, special effects and slaps. The film also stars Diego Luna, Efren Ramirez and Nick Offerman. For more on the film, here’s fourteen clips, Matt's review, and a fifteen-minute making of featurette.

Recently, I got to speak with Will Ferrell. During the interview he talked about the genesis of the project and why he decided to do a Spanish-language film, how the Spanish affected his improv process, karaoke, and future projects like Step Brothers 2 (they're going to start writing a script really soon with the hope of filming it in the fall), Anchorman 2 (it's still dead), and The Campaign with Zach Galifianakis. Hit the jump to watch.

Earlier today, Steve sat down with Will Ferrell for Casa de mi Padre, and learned some good news and some bad news. Bad news first: Anchorman 2 remains dead. There were places for a sequel to go, but the movie isn't going anywhere. Now the good news: you may remember that last May, Ferrell said he, John C. Reilly, and writer-director Adam McKay were considering a sequel to Step Brothers. Today, Ferrell told Steve that they are going to start writing a script really soon with the hope of filming it in the fall.

That's a fairly quick turnaround. In June, we heard that McKay and Ferrell were considering the football comedy Three Mississippi. The movie is about two Philadelphia neighbors whose annual Thanksgiving game of tackle football has become extraordinarily heated. I like that premise, but you won't hear me complaining if Step Brothers 2 goes in front of cameras first. I'm always up for a fuckin' Catalina wine mixer. Look for part of Steve's interview later today (we'll update this article) but until then, watch the trailer for the first Step Brothers after the jump.

In director Dan Rush's Everything Must Go, Will Ferrell plays a relapsed alcoholic who begins living on his lawn after he loses his job and wife. Soon after, he decides to sell off everything he owns. As you can tell by the premise, it's a nice departure for Ferrell, as he's not screaming or playing things for laughs. Instead, Everything Must Go features a genuine, low-key performance and it shows that Ferrell can do a lot more than comedy. The film also stars Rebecca Hall, Michael Pena, Christopher C.J. Wallace, Glenn Howerton, Stephen Root, and Laura Dern. For the trailer, click here.

I was recently able to sit down with Ferrell for an exclusive interview. We talked about how he got involved in the project, how things changed once he signed on, why Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, was it challenging being in every scene, and how the film is different than what he's been doing recently. In addition, we also talked about why he did The Office, what's up with Southern Rivals with Zach Galifianakis, he reveals that he's been talking with John C. Reilly about possibly doing Step Brothers 2, and he tells me about his awesome looking Spanish language movie, Casa de mi Padre. He says:
"it's like a telenovela and at times it’s Quentin Tarantinoesque and it has a little bit of Robert Rodriguez. It’s all of that mixed in with a poorly made movie where you see mistakes. You can see the boom mic in the reflections of ...

Yesterday, Steve got the chance to talk to Will Ferrell in anticipation of his new film Everything Must Go. While we’ll have the entirety of his interview up the week of release, Ferrell gave a few tidbits on upcoming projects that we thought we’d share with you right away. I know most of you are lamenting the loss of Anchorman 2 (really, Paramount? Really?), but Ferrell shared some great news regarding a follow-up to another Ferrell-Adam McKay project: Step Brothers.

Step Brothers, I’ve found, is one of those movies that grows on you exponentially each time you watch it. If you weren’t thrilled with a first-watch, give it another chance and you’re almost guaranteed to find it chock-full of comedic gold nuggets. Ferrell told Steve that he, director Adam McKay and co-star John C. Reilly recently had a meeting about possibly doing Step Brothers 2. Hit the jump for more, including an update on the political comedy Southern Rivals co-starring Zach Galifianakis.

Regarding Step Brothers 2, here’s what Ferrell had to say:
Ferrell: We just had a great meeting with John C. Reilly about maybe another Step Brothers. Because Anchoman is a brick wall right now.

Steve: You and John together are great together.

Ferrell: We're maybe playing around with the idea of that.

Steve: Would a certain friend of yours be directing (Adam McKay)?

Ferrell: Oh yeah. We would have to all three do it. Totally.

Personally, I’m thrilled by this news. I find Step Brothers to be an underrated comedy packed wall-to-wall with great ...
