The first trailer and poster for Step Up Revolution have gone online. For the fourth entry in the Step Up franchise, the series is taking on flash mobs because of course they are. I’ll admit I’ve never seen any of the Step Up films, but they appear to be made for a very specific audience. If you like watching people dance to music for an hour and a half, then you’re probably a fan of the series. If not, I highly doubt Step Up Revolution is going to change your mind.

It may not be a genre you enjoy, but there’s no bad-mouthing the Step Up series for what it’s trying to do. The stories may be painfully stupid, but the dancing is amazing and that’s what people come to see. The trailer for Step Up 4 has gone online and it has the great line “I want to break the rules.” Usually, dancing is legal. But you can break the rules by holding up traffic or disrupting the museum-going experience. There’s no point in rebelling if it’s not expertly choreographed.

Summit has released images and synopses for their 2012 line-up. We already showed you the first image from Warm Bodies, and now we have the first images from Gone starring Amanda Seyfried, Sinister starring Ethan Hawke, The Perks of Being a Wallflower starring Logan Lerman and Emma Watson, and Step Up 4 starring people you probably don’t know. The studio has released synopses for all of their 2012 movies. We don’t have images for every one of their films and some of the synopses are really just log-lines, but you’ll know more about these films than you did before.

Time to play catchup with a couple of release dates that surfaced over the weekend. First up, Summit will release Step Up 4 on August 10, 2012, possibly under the title Step Up 4Ever 3D—if we’re lucky. The release date comes with a new synopsis. In between the dancing: “Emily, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer, but soon falls in love with Sean, a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs.” Kathryn McCormick, Ryan Guzman, and Stephen Boss star.
Next, Box Office Mojo lists October 19, 2012 for the release of the feature directorial debut of The Sopranos creator David Chase. The story revolves around a group of friends who form a band in the 1960s—the film was using the band name, Twylight Zones, as the working title. It was never meant to last though, since that reads more sci-fi than period rock drama. For the time being, the movie is untitled. Given the pre-Halloween date, I do hold out some hope “Twylight Zones” will play an important role in the marketing. John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill, and James Gandolfini star; Steven Van Zandt served as music supervisor.

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, Ben Foster has joined the ever-changing production of Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father. The Wrap reports that Foster is set to play John Gotti Jr. The project has been through some rather public ups and downs, with Joe Pesci most recently suing the producers because he claims he gained weight for a role that was eventually cut. Barry Levinson is directing, and last we heard he was retooling the script. The cast includes Al Pacino, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, with filming set to begin in January in New York.
Additionally, newcomer Ryan Guzman and So You Think You Can Dance contestant Kathryn McCormick are set to star in the fourth installment of Step Up, which bears the undeniably genius tentative title Step Up 4Ever 3D. Scott Speer is directing the Miami-set movie from a script by Jenny May. The story centers on people who dance-fight in Miami. In 3D.
