Following a slew of “mini trailers” and one brief teaser, the first full trailer for the upcoming fifth season of HBO’s True Blood has gone online. The clip shows quite a bit of footage from the upcoming season, including the promise of a prolonged Bill/Eric team-up (please tell me a buddy vampire spin-off is in the works), the return of an old fan favorite character, and the promise of more of that weird clown face that apparently appears when witches get high or something. However, the best part about this trailer is Mr. Christopher Meloni. He joins the cast this season as the head of The Authority, a council made up of the most powerful vampires in existence. If you remember the predicament that Bill and Eric found themselves in last season and compound that with the returning baddie, you should have some idea of where this promisingly badass Meloni character comes in.

Frankly, I gave up on vampires a long time ago, and it takes a lot for me to get interested in them, and that includes the HBO series True Blood. However, we know that there are plenty of True Blood-thirsty fans out there clamoring for every bit of hype as we lead up to the fifth season premiere on June 10th at 9/8c. Therefore, you’ll be happy to know that in addition to the most recent trailer and teaser poster, we now have a batch of 12 character posters (with Anna Paquin, Alexander Skarsgard, Stephen Moyer and more) that have so much red on them they would make Shaun of the Dead blush.
Honestly, they’re not all that special, but for fans who have a favorite character (or enjoy seeing Christopher Meloni with fangs), they could make a cool iPhone background or something like that. Anyway, you can check out all 12 of the new posters, along with the most recent trailer, after the jump.

Get ready to sink your teeth into these new photos from season five of HBO’s True Blood. The supernatural drama returns this summer with some new blood added to the cast by way of Christopher Meloni, Valentina Cervi and Christopher Heyerdahl. These photos highlight the new characters, but also include a fresh look at some of the old, played by series regulars Stephen Moyer, Anna Paquin, Alexander Skarsgard and Nelsan Ellis. The stakes have been raised once again as season five will feature the arrival of some new powerful vampires as well as the return of a fan-favorite. Season five of True Blood returns on June 10th. While everyone is currently hyped up for the return of HBO’s Game of Thrones, a little show called True Blood popped up to remind us that season five of the supernatural series starts this summer. We’ve previously brought you the first promotion and more recent teaser trailers from everyone’s favorite guilty pleasure, but now we have a teaser montage of clips from the upcoming season. With news that showrunner Alan Ball is overseeing this season but stepping down from the day-to-day responsibilities of the show for a possible sixth season, it will be interesting to see how this summer’s run turns out. Also, with new cast addition Christopher Meloni, the old gang of supes could be in for quite a shake up, but Christopher Heyerdahl steals the show with his chilling narration of the new season five promo. There have been few spy movies in the past decade without a middle east centered plotline. The Double, starring Topher Grace, Richard Gere, and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer, is a throwback to the cold-war espionage films of the ’60s. When a US Senator’s murder bears the trademark of an infamous assassin, rookie FBI agent (Grace), must team up with a retired CIA operative (Gere) to find the killer’s whereabouts. But when true identities are called into question, each must decide who’s playing who.
At the film’s press day, I sat down with Grace and Moyer, who has a small but integral role as a Russian convict. After joking about their Internet habits, on-set pranks, and Moyer’s love of The West Wing (Martin Sheen plays a FBI honcho), we didn’t have time for much else. The two actors, who have a great banter, also discuss their favorite spy films and getting into character. Hit the jump for the full interview.

Cam Gigandet is joining the cast of the indie drama Free Ride. Written and directed by Shana Sosin, the indie drama tells the true story of an abused single mother in the 1970s who moves her two daughters to Florida to make a new life for herself. Anna Paquin stars as the mother, and also has a hand behind the scenes as Free Ride marks the first production for her production company SCAMP. Variety reports that Gigandet will play Paquin’s love interest. The film also stars Drea De Matteo (The Sopranos), Liana Liberato (Tresspass), Ava Acres (Five), Jeff Hephner (Hellcats) and Paquin’s fellow True Blood alum Brit Morgan. Paquin is producing alongside Cerise Hallam Larkin, Susan Dynner, and her husband/True Blood star Stephen Moyer. Production is set to begin later this month in Sarasota, Florida. Paquin will go straight into Free Ride after filming Straight A’s with Ryan Phillippe.

We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share with you tonight. First up, Isla Fischer is in talks to join the cast of Louis Leterrier’s magician heist pic Now You See Me. Fisher joins an impressive roster that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman and Melanie Laurent. The story centers on a group of illusionists who pull off a series of bank heists during their performances, and the FBI agent tasked with bringing them in.
Variety reports that Fisher will play a “master technician” who’s responsible for building the contraptions that the magician troupe uses. Amanda Seyfried was originally in negotiations for the role, but her deal never came to fruition. Ruffalo stars as the FBI agent hunting the group down, and Eisenberg will play the leader of the illusionist group, known as the Four Horseman (no relation to the very strong shot of the same name, I presume). Hit the jump for the casting news of Stephen Moyer in Darren Lynn Bousman’s The Barrens.

The Double looks like it could have been a solid spy flick. You had Richard Gere and Topher Grace playing government agents trying to track down an assassin code-named Cassius. Nothing genre-shattering but it could be well executed. Well you know those irritating trailers that give away the entire damn plot? This trailer for The Double blows them all away. It gives you a major plot twist that would have been somewhat interesting if not wholly believable within the context of the movie. It takes you deep into the third act of the film. It shows you pretty much everything it can in a desperate big to make you want to see this movie and now any desire I had to see the flick has been extinguished by this trailer. Great job, whoever cut this.

The Caller is a chilling and creepy supernatural thriller about a young troubled divorcee that is being obsessively harassed via telephone by a mad woman who insists she is calling from the past. When Mary Kee (Rachelle Lefevre) begins to receive mysterious phone calls from a woman named Rose (Lorna Raver), she questions the woman’s honesty and motives. As the phone calls become more and more disturbing, Mary’s terror escalates and she cuts all contact with the voice on the other end of the line, leaving Rose enraged and threatening to exact revenge, not on Mary in the present, but on Mary as a child in the past. After learning some of Rose’s history from George (Luis Guzman), whose family has been at the apartment since her time there, and with the help of John (Stephen Moyer), who’s trying to make sense of what’s going on, Mary realizes that she has to kill Rose in order to save herself, but has no idea how to stop someone living 30 years in the past.
During an exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Stephen Moyer talked about being struck by the old filmmaking traditions in The Caller, shooting his role in just nine days, what the location of Puerto Rico added to the mood of the already eerie story, and how astonishing and mesmerizing he found his co-star Rachelle Lefevre’s performance. He also talked about what his True Blood character, Bill Compton, has learned from everything he’s had to go through this season, how he’s really enjoyed developing the bond between Bill and Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), how the show always keeps him guessing, and that he’s going to do a low-budget thriller with Radha Mitchell, called Evidence, before starting Season 5 of the HBO vampire series in December. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Image Entertainment has released the first images from The Double. The flick centers on a former CIA operative (Richard Gere) who’s called out of retirement and must team up with a rookie FBI agent (Topher Grace) when a US senator turns up dead and bearing the distinctive trademark of a Russian assassin known as “Cassius”. I’m always up for a good spy thriller and I tend to think Grace is fantastic in everything. The film also stars Martin Sheen, Stephen Moyer, Odette Yustman, and Stana Katic.

Six episodes into Season 4 of True Blood, things are definitely heating up in the small, sexy town of Bon Temps, where vampires, werewolves, witches and all things supernatural are becoming more commonplace than the humans. Although everyone with the show is always very tight-lipped, when it comes to plot reveals, during the HBO portion of the TCA Press Tour, co-stars and real-life husband and wife, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, talked about Sookie’s stubborn streak, how they enjoys the tension in the relationship between Bill and Sookie because it makes for interesting television, the ability to pitch possible storylines, how the cast is always trying to get tidbits about the story and their characters out of the writers, and how incredibly talented the entire cast is. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

In a massively attended panel, the cast and creator of the ever-popular HBO series True Blood teased audience members with scenes from the current season and hints about upcoming seasons. [Update: HBO has uploaded a new trailer. Watch it after the break.]

Not unlike any other first episode of a new season, True Blood once again reminds us that if we think it didn’t happen, it probably did. Every premiere, we are thrown in the fantastical world of Bon Temps and wondering what else there is lurking behind the lush vegetation of this Louisiana town. This season, however, takes us out of our comfort zone and immediately throws us into what I can only describe as a science-fiction landscape. The fast rising climax of the opening scene without delay takes us from this reverie scene of realization and literally drops us back down to earth, where Sookie (Anna Paquin) is instantly bombarded with a slew of questions and a sudden catharsis like you’ve never imagined. True Blood hasn’t become a breakout hit by resting on its laurels. Each season seemingly reinvents the wheel: taking another in the series of Sookie Stackhouse novels and interpreting it in a way that places its characters in an entirely new light. Season 3 has its ups and downs, but – as the new DVD set shows – when it hits its stride, it can’t be beat. Hit the jump for my full review.
