It appears that another Jackass film is on the way, but with a possible twist.  Per Paramount has been registering domain names for titles like “jackass4movie.com”, “badgrandpamovie.com”, and “jackass4badgrandpa.com”, suggesting that a fourth entry in the Jackass franchise is in the works.  Those wondering what the “Bad Grandpa” subtitle means probably haven’t seen the first three movies, as a prominent sketch features Johnny Knoxville and Spike Jonze hitting the streets in high quality old people make-up and participating in various shenanigans.  Hit the jump for more, including a clip of the sketch.

For those not wanting to watch selected clips from Jackass 3.5 on Joost every week, Paramount Home Video has just set a June 14 release for Jackass 3.5 on Blu-ray and DVD.  While the DVD will be available nationwide, the Blu-ray is a Best Buy exclusive.  According to the press release:

The Blu-ray and DVD boast over 30 minutes of exclusive, never-before-seen footage.  Bonus features include outrageous outtakes and deleted scenes, as well as a look at the origins of the Jackass franchise and footage from the Jackass European tour where the troupe brought mayhem across the pond to England, Ireland and Spain while filming more of their insanely inventive stunts.

I caught a screening of Jackass 3.5 and thought it could have had a limited theatrical run as there are a few very funny skits.   Hit the jump for the press release and cover art.

If you’re a fan of Jackass, April 1st is Christmas Day.  That’s because while Jackass 3.5 could have been released in theaters, it’s going to be showing for free on Joost.com!  According to director Jeff Tremaine, every Tuesday and Friday, between one to three segments from Jackass 3.5 will be showing on Joost, and it’ll continue until it’s done.  Down the road, you can expect it to be released on DVD/Blu-ray.  I caught a screening of the entire film a few days ago and it’s extremely funny and it’s got a few amazing stunts.  I’m actually surprised they didn’t release it in theaters.

Anyway, a few days ago I sat down with Tremaine to talk about all things Jackass.  We discussed why didn’t Jackass 3.5 hit theaters first, the future of Jackass, how much deleted footage is still in the vaults, did they ever stop a stunt due to being too dangerous, his upcoming scripted-feature directorial debut, Revenge of the Jocks, and a lot more.  I’ve listed the highlights of the interview as bullet points and I’ve also time indexed the entire interview so you can watch the parts that interest you.  Hit the jump to watch:

Seeing the Jackass gang ten years after their MTV show hit the airwaves, it’s impossible not to notice that we’re no longer looking at fresh-faced boys. Though surely everyone in the gang – Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Ryan Dunn, Wee Man, Preston Lacy, Dave England and “Danger” Ehren Mcghehy – took their spills and hits before the show, and ten years on Indiana Jones was never more right: It’s not the years, it’s the mileage. For the first time for many of them, in Jackass 3-D they’re also doing these pranks and stunts sober, which must compound the pain of their idiotic (often heroically so) stunts. Hell, you probably have to be some form of intoxicated to think it would be fun to dress up like Santa Claus and climb a tree right before it gets cut down. For Jackass 3-D – in what may be the final go-around for these guys (at least if they hope to be walking for the rest of their lives) – the group do hilariously terrible things to each other and themselves. It’s awards season and while most films won’t be in the running for an Oscar, doesn’t mean it’s not fun to try.  Paramount has drawn up a For Your Consideration ad for Jackass 3 (aka Jackass 3D) and hopes that the Academy will consider the film to be worthy of awards in multiple categories, including Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, and Best Picture.  While the film is unlikely to receive any Oscar nominations (unless the Academy suddenly decides to create a category for Best Use of Fecal Matter), it’s all in good fun.

Before seeing Jackass 3D, I only knew the franchise by reputation.  I never watched the show or saw the first two movies.  I was familiar with the premise: guys torture themselves for our amusement.  The intellectual in me (tiny as he may be) always scoffed at the subject.  “What a sad commentary on the state of entertainment in post-modern American (cue snobbish laugh)”.  But then I remember that I watch Tosh.0 every week and seeing the self-inflected misfortunes of others makes me giggle.  With that in mind, I went to see Jackass 3D and got exactly what I expected.  While the 3D is only used effectively for about a quarter of the film’s sketches (particularly the first and last sketch), most of the gags are clever and some of the gags will make you gag.  But there is no mistaking Jackass 3D, even if this is the first time you’ve stared into their abyss of pain.

Having met through the skateboarding magazine Big Brother, where filmmaker Jeff Tremaine was the editor and art director, Steve-O and Chris Pontius started making videos of various crazy stunts with Johnny Knoxville, a writer there, for a video series that would accompany the publication. The success of those videos, showcasing their painful antics, expanded into the concept that became the television pilot for the successful MTV reality series Jackass, and now the franchise is in its third feature film installment, this time upping the ante by being in 3D.

At the film’s press day, Steve-O and Chris Pontius talked about having to be sober in order to be allowed to shoot a stunt, worrying about keeping things R-rated for the MPAA and the extreme tension on set because side pranks can happen to anyone at anytime. With director Jeff Tremaine’s Jackass 3D opening this weekend, we’ve been given three clips from the film.  Since the movie has an embargo on all reviews until opening day, I can’t say what I thought.  I can, however, tell you that you need to see the movie in 3D.  The opening scene alone is worth the higher ticket price.

Assuming you have the stomach for that kind of entertainment, Jackass: The Movie and Jackass Number Two were about the most fun you could have in a crowded theater.  In case you haven’t heard, the Jackass decided to up the ante for the new sequel by shooting upwards of 80% of the stunts in 3D.  Steve saw eight minutes of footage from Jackass 3D at Comic-Con, and loved it.  Though Paramount could only post the trailer online in 2D, I can see why it caught his eye — so very funny.  Check it out for yourself after the jump.

After Jackass: The Movie and Jackass Number Two performed almost identically at the box office to the tune of almost $70 million dollars each on a combined production budget of under 10 million, a Jackass 3 was all but inevitable.  But few, if any, imagined that we would be seeing Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and the whole gang in 3D. However, on October 15 of this year, we’ll all be able to as that’s the release date for Jackass 3D!  Hit the jump for the first image and an update on the film’s Comic-Con presence.

It seems someone let the cat out of the bag a bit early.  Thanks to William Goss spotting Jackass 3D on Paramount’s 2010 schedule, it seems the adventures of Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera and Steve-O are going to continue on movie screens….but this time we’re going to get them in 3D!  While I thought the first Jackass movie was an amazing cinematic achievement, I didn’t think the second movie was worth anyone’s time and most of it played like a long deleted scene.  Of course I’ll be the first one in line for a 3D Jackass movie…but after my recent experiences on a movie shooting in 3D, I’m not 100% sold this is really happening.   My explanation after the jump:
