The cast of director Chan-wook Park’s (Oldboy) English-language debut Stoker continues to fill out as Dermot Mulroney has signed on. Written by actor Wentworth Miller (Prison Break), the film centers on a young girl who encounters her mysterious uncle while mourning her father’s death. Mia Wasikowska is onboard to play the young girl, and THR reports that Mulroney will play the girl’s father. The ensemble cast also includes Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Jacki Weaver, Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) and Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro). Mulroney recently joined the cast of Struck By Lighting, which was written by Glee star Chris Colfer. Filming on Stoker begins later this month in Nashville.

Following the two casting stories we had for you this morning, we now have a few more this afternoon. First up, The Killing star Mireille Enos’ may land another high-profile gig after signing on to co-star in World War Z earlier this year. THR reports that Enos is in talks to play the wife of Josh Brolin’s character in Ruben Fleischer’s period crime drama Gangster Squad. Brolin plays John O’Mara, one of the few good cops not on the payroll of crime boss Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) in 1940s Los Angeles. If she signs on, “Enos will play O’Mara’s wife, who is afraid her husband may die while in the line of duty but still helps him pick his squad. The film’s impressive cast also includes Ryan Gosling, Michael Pena, Anthony Mackie, and Giovanni Ribisi. Emma Stone is also in talks to join the film.

We’ve got a few casting stories for you this evening. First up, Deadline reports that Academy Award-nominee Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom) is set to star in Fox Searchlight’s thriller Stoker. Directed by Chan-wook Park, the film centers on a young girl who encounters her mysterious uncle while mourning the death of her father. Weaver joins Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode and Mia Wasikowska. The script was penned by actor Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) under his pseudonym Ted Foulke, with Ridley and Tony Scott producing.
Additionally, Sarah Wright has landed the lead role in the R-rated comedy 21 and Over. Marking the directorial debut of The Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the film centers on two friends who take their buddy out for his 21st birthday, which naturally spirals into an all-night adventure. The friends must ensure that the birthday boy makes his all-important med school interview the next day. Wright joins Skylar Astin, Justin Chon and Miles Teller in the cast. Hit the jump for the casting news of On the Seventh Day.

Matthew Goode (Watchmen) is in talks to land the male lead in director Chan-wook Park’s (Oldboy) drama Stoker. Already starring Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska, the project was penned by actor Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) and centers on a young girl (Wasikowska) who encounters her mysterious uncle while mourning her father’s death. Variety reports that Goode’s negotiations are for the role of said “mysterious uncle,” a part previously courted by the likes of Colin Firth, James Franco, Michael Fassbender, and Joel Edgerton. Stoker is housed at Fox Searchlight and will mark the English-language debut for Chan-wook Park. Tony and Ridley Scott will produce the pic under their Scott Free moniker. As for Goode, “Ozymandias” himself can next be seen in the “romantic dramady” Burning Man from director Jonathan Teplitzky.

Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman and likely-Oscar-winner Colin Firth are in negotiations to star in Stoker. The film is the English-language debut of Oldboy director Chan Wook-Park. As we reported a couple weeks ago, Mia Wasikowska has signed on to play the lead role of India Stoker, “an eccentric teen whose enigmatic and estranged uncle returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father.” Jodie Foster was set to play the girl’s mother, but dropped out. Now it looks like Kidman will play the mom while Firth will play the uncle.
The way the shooting schedule is shaking out, it looks like Stoker will be Firth’s first film (say that five times fast) since The King’s Speech became the Oscar front-runner and scored at the box office. While he’s also signed on to star in the remake of Gambit, 24 Frames reports that Stoker is likely to go in front of cameras first. As for Kidman, she’ll next be seen in the hostage drama Trespass with Nicolas Cage.

We heard last week that Mia Wasikowska (The Kids Are All Right) hopes to fit both Stoker and The Wettest County in the World on to her 2011 production schedule. Given recent news, Fox Searchlight has extra motivation to sign Wasikowska to the former. The earlier report suggested Wasikowska would join the previously attached Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster. However, Deadline hears Foster is no longer on board and Wasikowska will actually replace Mulligan in the lead role, “an eccentric teen whose enigmatic and estranged uncle returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father.” Those are two tough losses, and I’d be interested to hear why Mulligan and/or Foster moved on if details ever surface. More after the jump:

Mia Wasikowska had a great 2010 as the star of the years second highest grosser (Alice in Wonderland) and the top limited release (The Kids Are All Right). It follows that she’s in for a busy 2011. According to Variety, Wasikowska is currently circling two projects: Stoker and The Wettest County in the World.
The Australian actress could ostensibly do both films, though negotiations are on hold while her camp tries to work out a schedule with the studios. Both projects would link her to some interesting talent — Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster in Stoker, Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy in The Wettest County — so I hope Wasikowska figures out a way to sign on to at least one. Hit the jump for more info on both films.

The 2010 Black List has been announced. For those who don’t know, the Black List is a list of the best “unproduced” screenplays in Hollywood. I put “unproduced” in quotations because some of these screenplays are in various stages of production. For instance, College Republicans (formerly Young Republicans) has Shia LaBeouf and Paul Dano circling the project while Safe House has Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds on board. J.C. Chandor’s script (which he also directed) Margin Call is the furthest along of the Top 10 as it’s already set to premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

South Korean writer/director Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) is in talks to make his English-language debut with Stoker. Based on a script from actor Wentworth Miller (Resident Evil: Afterlife), Stoker centers on “the story of an eccentric teen whose enigmatic and estranged uncle who returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father.”
Last we checked, Carey Mulligan (Never Let Me Go) and Jodie Foster were in negotiations to star. Their involvement has been confirmed, and it is suggested that Fox Searchlight seeks a similarly high profile name to fill the male lead, the “estranged uncle.” More after the jump.

Wentworth Miller is the latest actor to join the Resident Evil franchise. In the latest installment, Resident Evil: Afterlife, he plays Chris Redfield, brother to Claire (Ali Larter) and a character straight out fo the popular video games. Unfamiliar with the video game when he was cast, he made sure to do his research and see what the fan expectation was for the character, before developing the character for himself.
While at Comic-Con, Wentworth Miller spoke at a roundtable about being a fan of the genre and his excitement in joining such an internationally successful franchise. He also talked about the writing projects that he’s developing – a feature film called Stoker, that’s part horror film, part family drama and part psychological thriller, all wrapped in one, along with its prequel, Uncle Charlie. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

There is a certain air of skepticism that surrounds an actor who fancies himself a writer. But Prison Break star Wentworth Miller has found a way around that, in theory. When he wrote the family drama Stoker and the prequel Under Charlie, he reportedly slapped the pseudonym “Ted Foulke” on the title page. Last we checked, Stoker seemed to be housed exclusively at Fox Searchlight, with Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster attached to star. The latest report suggests Fox Searchlight is merely “in talks to acquire both scripts” at this stage, and they aren’t the only studio. More after the jump:

Carey Mulligan (An Education) is in negotiations to star in Fox Searchlight’s Stoker, which was written by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller. According to 24 Frames, “Stoker tells of an eccentric teenager whose enigmatic and estranged uncle returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father.” Searchlight is also in talks with a various other parties, including Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free Productions to produce, and with Jodie Foster to co-star. 24 Frames notes that Scott Free is geared more towards mainstream commercial fare, but recently went outside their comfort zone by working with the low-budget comedy Cyrus.
Mulligan was previously rumored to play the female lead in David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and she’s also in talks to star in Sam Mendes’ On Chesil Beach. The Oscar-nominated actress will next be seen in theaters this September in Olive Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and in October in Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go.
