Aaron Eckhart will star as Frankenstein’s monster, “Adam Frankenstein” in Stuart Beattie’s adaptation of Kevin Grevioux’s comic I, Frankenstein. The modern-day update of Mary Shelley’s classic horror tome has Adam “caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans” (you mean like Underworld, which Grevioux also wrote?). Beattie says that while Shelley’s story “is about the creation of the first human being. This is the story about that being becoming human.” Step one: don’t accidentally kill little girls. While the story seems like a retread and I don’t really care if Frankenstein learns to become human (what’s unnerving about Shelley’s story is that modern man may reach for greatness but its primal instincts are for death and destruction), you’ve always got a solid actor in your cast when you hire Eckhart.
Hit the jump for the press release. I, Frankenstein is slated to open February 22, 2013. Eckhart will next be seen in The Rum Diary. He’s also signed on to star in the spy thriller The Expatriate, the Peter Pan-inspired crime drama Pan, and he’ll reunite with director Neil LaBute for The Geography of Hope.

Screenwriter Stuart Beattie (30 Days of Night, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) has been tapped to write and direct Lakeshore Entertainment’s adaptation of the graphic novel I, Frankenstein. Kevin Grevioux’s comic takes place in a modern-day world where the monster “stands between humans and a host of other supernatural creatures looking to rise up and take over.” Heat Vision reports that the studio is hoping to shoot the film this fall.
Beattie recently made his directorial debut with the Australian action drama Tomorrow, When the War Began based on the novel series by John Marsden. The film broke box office records in Beattie’s native country and he’s poised to film two sequels back-to-back, though production won’t begin until Beattie finishes up with I, Frankenstein.

Last night I covered a special “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” screening at Mann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. While there I was able to interview tons of people on the red carpet and rather than divide up these three interviews into separate articles, I’m posting all them here, in one place. So after the jump you can see Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow) talk about making “G.I. Joe”, screenwriter Stuart Beattie talk about his directorial debut “Tomorrow, When the World Began”, and Marlon Wayans (Ripcord) talk more about Japanese bathrooms and what character he might want to join the “Joe” team in the sequel. Take a look:

With “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” set to invade movie theaters this weekend, a few weeks ago I got to speak with screenwriter Stuart Beattie about his involvement in the movie. He talked to me about his love of the property, how fast he had to write the script, all the online buzz surrounding the film, the casting, how involved was Hasbro, and he explains the mantra he likes to follow when writing scripts. If you’ve been looking forward to “G.I. Joe” or are just curious how a script sometimes comes together, you’ll really like the interview. Take a look after the jump:

Larry Hama, the man behind the GI JOE comic book I grew up reading, lets us in on the transition from toyline to one hundred fifty issues of awesome. Brian Goldner (Producer), Stuart Beattie (Writer) and Stephen Sommers (Director) join him in the two-minute look.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting this film since childhood. I got excited reading Frosty’s review because it sounded exactly like what I wanted from the film. In a word: fun. Of course, like you, I have a week-plus wait ahead of me, but this clip is a good way to whet your appetite. Take a look after the jump. Go Joe!

The other day I spoke with to screenwriter Stuart Beattie about his work on “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra”. We did a phone interview as he’s currently in Australia scouting locations and prepping his first feature “Tomorrow, When the War Began”. In a few weeks I’ll post everything he said about “Joe”, but today I wanted to focus on what he said about all the other projects he’s involved with.
In case you didn’t know, Stuart is writing/developing “Tarzan: Lord Of The Jungle” for director Stephen Sommers at Warner Brothers, “The 89th War” for Ron Howard, “Bra Boys” for Russell Crowe, Tom Clancy’s “Without Remorse”, and “Spyhunter” for Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. He also wrote a script for a “Halo” movie completely on spec and he told me his take on the material and when he believes Hollywood will finally make a great video game movie.
It’s a great interview so check it out after the jump:
