A new trailer for writer/director Sofia Coppola’s new film The Bling Ring has been released online.  The film is based on the true story of a group of teenagers who robbed the homes of the rich and famous between October 2008 and August 2009, coming away with over $3 million worth of loot from the likes of Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, and Lindsay Lohan.  I found myself shaking my head throughout this whole trailer, which is a testament to how well Coppola has captured the celebrity-obsessed culture that surrounds us nowadays.  Watson looks to give a strong performance here as one of the oblivious and self-obsessed teenagers, and I’m eager to see how the story plays out through Coppola’s lens.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film stars Emma Watson, Taissa FarmigaIsrael Broussard, Katie ChangClaire JulienGavin Rossdale, and Leslie Mann.  The Bling Ring will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and opens in limited release on June 14th.

Some rather interesting new materials from writer/director Sofia Coppola’s upcoming film The Bling Ring have made their way online.  Most notable is the first clip from the film, which is based on the true story of a group of teenagers who robbed the homes of the rich and famous between October 2008 and August 2009, coming away with over $3 million worth of loot from the likes of Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, and Lindsay Lohan.  The clip shows the group of youngsters raiding a rather ridiculous “closet” that presumably belongs to one of the aforementioned celebrities, and we see Emma Watson’s character trying out a stripper pole in the process.  I’m really interested to see Coppola’s angle on this celeb-obsessed story, and it’s looking like The Bling Ring might make a nice double feature with Harmony Korine’s culture portrait Spring Breakers.

Hit the jump to watch the first clip and to check out a batch of new images.  The film also stars Taissa Farmiga, Israel Broussard (Flipped), Katie ChangClaire Julien, Gavin Rossdale, and Leslie MannThe Bling Ring opens in limited release on June 14th.

A number of new images from writer/director Sofia Coppola’s upcoming film The Bling Ring have landed online.  The pic marks Coppola’s follow-up to her 2010 film Somewhere and is based on the true story of a group of teenagers who robbed the homes of the rich and famous between October 2008 and August 2009, coming away with over $3 million worth of loot from the likes of Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, and Lindsay Lohan.  It’s most definitely an interesting choice of topic for the Lost in Translation filmmaker, but the pic’s first trailer and these new images promise a fascinating look into the celebrity-obsessed, material-based culture that spurred the film’s real-life events in the first place.  The new images also give us another look at Emma Watson’s rather interesting character transformation.

FX’s American Horror Story has already covered the topics of ghosts, serial killers, the criminally insane, Nazis and aliens in such creepy locales as a haunted house, insane asylum and mad scientist’s laboratory.  Season three, recently revealed with the title of American Horror Story: Coven, will center on witches and take place partially in New Orleans.  Throughout the second season, it was speculated that creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk would be taking on witches in the upcoming season, based on hints they scattered throughout the Asylum episodes; but this storyline has been in the works for quite a while.  Hit the jump for more.

After news that Amazon Studios and Sony TV would be producing the pilot for the Zombieland series, some casting and plot information became available.  Now, it looks like two of the four leads have been filled.  Tyler Ross (Milkshake) will play Columbus (portrayed in the 2009 film by Jesse Eisenberg) while up-and-comer Izabela Vidovic (Help for the Holidays) will star as Little Rock (played by Abigail Breslin in the feature).  Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the feature script as well as that of the pilot, which continues the post-apocalyptic adventures of the foursome that also includes Tallahassee and Wichita.

Taissa Farmiga, Spencer Lofranco, and Nicholas Braun Join Andy Garcia and Vera Farmiga in ADMISSIONS

Taissa Farmiga, Spencer Lofranco, and Nicholas Braun signed on to the indie dramedy AdmissionsAndy Garcia and Vera Farmiga star as “a man and woman who fall in love while taking their children on a college admissions tour.”  According to THR, Lofranco will play Garcia’s son and Taissa Farmiga will play Vera Farmiga’s daughter.  The common last name and 21-year age gap between them sounds perfect for an on-screen mother-daughter duo.  But in fact, the Farmigas are actually sisters.  Braun will play an upperclassmen who is leading the tour.

Lofranco is new to the business, but I like what I saw of Braun and especially Farmiga on their respective basic cable shows, 10 Things I Hate About You and American Horror Story.  Writer/directors Glenn German and Adam Rodgers secured a nice cast for their feature directorial debut.  Shooting begins next month in Spokane, Washington.

The first official images from writer/director Sofia Coppola’s new film The Bling Ring has been unveiled.  The pic is based on the true story of a group of teenagers who robbed the homes of the rich and famous between October 2008 and August 2009, coming away with over $3 million worth of loot from the likes of Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, and Lindsay Lohan.  The cast is lead by Harry Potter’s Emma Watson and, based on these images, her character looks to be just about as far from Hermione Granger as possible.  We also get a look at co-stars Taissa Famiga (American Horror Story), Israel Broussard (Flipped), Katie Chang and Claire Julien.  We previously saw a couple of batches of set photos, but these official images shows the whole Bling Ring gang all together, frappuccinos in tow.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Star Taissa Farmiga Joins Sofia Coppola’s THE BLING RING and Drama JAMESY BOY

After breaking out with the first season of Ryan Murphy’s hit horror anthology series American Horror Story, actress Taissa Farmiga has booked two new feature roles. Variety reports that Farmiga has signed on to join Sofia Coppola’s true crime story The Bling Ring. Written by Coppola, the film is based on the true story of a group of teenagers who robbed the homes of the rich and famous between October 2008 and August 2009, coming away with over $3 million worth of loot from the likes of Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, and Lindsay Lohan. Yesterday we reported that Harry Potter star Emma Watson is set for a leading role in the ensemble, and now it appears Farmiga will be joining her.

Additionally, Farmiga has landed a leading role in the drama Jamesy Boy. The film tells the story of a young suburban street gang member who gets sent to a maximum-security prison and strikes up an unlikely friendship with a convicted murderer. Farmiga will play the main character’s love interest with a supporting cast that includes Mary-Louise Parker, Ving Rhames, and James Woods. Farmiga is the younger sister of actress Vera, and I found her work to be quite impressive on American Horror Story. Given the show’s anthology nature, Farmiga isn’t expected to return for its second season this fall. She’ll shoot Jamesy Boy first before moving on to Bling Ring, and I think both roles are smart choices for the young actress.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: A Season One Recap

Sadly, there is no new American Horror Story episode to air or recap to post tonight. As the show’s first season finale aired last week, there won’t be any more good old fashioned American gore until September or October of 2012. Rest assured, FX has renewed the show for a second season and co-creator Ryan Murphy indicated last week that we can expect all new actors playing all new characters in an all new location next year, but we’ll have to wait until the writers shore all that up when they reconvene in February. In the meantime, we have a look back at season one of American Horror Story by the cast and crew of the hit, Golden Globe-nominated show. Hit the jump to see the videos.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season Finale Recap: Afterbirth

american-horror-story-poster-slice-01

This is it, folks-the moment you’ve all been waiting for! We’ve followed the Harmons from day one as they picked up their dysfunctional lives back in Boston and set their sights on familial rehabilitation in Los Angeles. What Ben (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton) and Violet (Taissa Farmiga) found was much, much more than they bargained for; as viewers, we can say the same. In what could have easily been a one-note series about a family living in a haunted house, American Horror Story used that device to explore social relationships, psychological trauma, and grisly moments in Hollywood history all while giving us memorable, complex characters and a helluva good time. If you’ve missed out on the fun that is Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy’s (Glee and Nip/Tuck) twisted creation, check out all of our previous recaps here. For the AHS initiated, hit the jump for my recap of season one’s final episode, “Afterbirth,” as well as my retrospective.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Recap: Birth

american-horror-story-poster-slice-01

When last we left the Harmons, their family ties were being stretched to the limits while the ghosts of the house were busy plotting ways to kidnap Vivien’s (Connie Britton) soon-to-be-born twins. If the above sentence makes little sense to you, I suggest catching up on our previous recaps before reading any further. Tonight’s episode “Birth” begins the conclusion of the opening season of FX’s American Horror Story. Viewers who have been with the series from the beginning have watched the Harmon family discover the secrets of the Murder House as well as a host of secrets they’ve been hiding from each other. Unlike many other suspense series on TV, American Horror Story doesn’t keep you waiting and guessing for long. Tonight’s episode proved no different, giving us answers to some questions we haven’t even asked yet as well as one big shock I didn’t see coming. Hit the jump for my recap.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Recap: Smoldering Children

This is a fair warning to anyone who is reading this and hasn’t been keeping up with our American Horror Story recaps: turn back now or risk ruining some fantastic surprises from this series. When last we left the Harmon house, we learned that Vivien’s (Connie Britton) twins had, not one, but two fathers. We also watched as Ben (Dylan McDermott) came to certain revelations about the house and its inhabitants. Hayden (Kate Mara) was up to her old tricks again and ill-advisedly added a new member to the ghost line-up: Travis (Michael Graziadei). The episode “Spooky Little Girl” ended with a spoon-fed foreshadowing of the birth of Vivien’s demonic (read: antichrist) baby. But what have the other kids, Violet (Taissa Farmiga) and Tate (Evan Peters) been up to? Hit the jump to find out.
