New Posters for JOHN CARTER, 21 JUMP STREET and MIRROR MIRROR

Seeing as it’s already February and that little furry rodent has predicted six more weeks of winter, we thought we’d take a look ahead to some March movie releases. Coincidentally, three big March movies have recently released new posters. First up is Disney’s March 9^th release, John Carter, starring Taylor Kitsch as a Civil War vet transplanted onto Mars, in an Andrew Stanton-directed picture. Next is the Phil Lord and Chris Miller-directed 21 Jump Street, a March 16^th release starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as two screw-up cops who infiltrate a local high school drug ring. Finally, we have a new poster from the Tarsem Singh project, Mirror Mirror, a Snow White adaptation featuring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts which opens March 30^th. MIRROR MIRROR International Trailer

After we reported that Relativity Media was pushing its Snow White project Mirror Mirror back until March 30th, the studio decided to release a new international trailer. While it’s still nowhere near as mature or action-filled as the Universal counterpart Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, it’s heads above the horrendous first trailer. This is more along the lines of what I was expecting from director Tarsem Singh as I can at least pick up on his presence here.

Mirror Mirror stars Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane and Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

Relativity Pushes Tarsem Singh’s MIRROR MIRROR Back to March 30

Relativity Media’s take on the Snow White story, Mirror Mirror, is undergoing a slight schedule change. The studio has pushed the release of the Tarsem Singh-directed film back from March 16th to March 30th. The film will now open the same weekend as Wrath of the Titans and The Pirates! Band of Misfits. More interesting, though, is the fact that this move now positions the film after the release of Lionsgate’s highly anticipated The Hunger Games. The studio is hoping Games becomes the next big franchise in the vein of Harry Potter, as the book series comes with millions of devoted fans.

Mirror Mirror is one of two Snow White movies coming out this year (the other is Snow White and the Huntsman), and Singh’s light and fluffy take on the fairy tale looks genuinely terrible. It appears to be more farce than anything, and I highly doubt young teenagers will choose Mirror Mirror over a second go-around with The Hunger Games come opening weekend.

New Set Images from Tarsem Singh’s Snow White Film MIRROR MIRROR

It’s officially 2012, which means we’re that much closer to the first of two Snow White films set for release this year. First out of the gate will be director Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror (followed by Snow White and the Huntsman this summer).  A gallery of new official set photos from the film has been released, giving us a look into Singh’s artistic process of bringing Snow White to life. The trailer for Mirror Mirror (described as a “comedic adventure) wasn’t exactly promising, but the visuals on display in these photos are pretty stunning. Disney regular Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast) is working on the score for the film, so it’s safe to say that we’re in for a pretty fluffy version of the Snow White fairy tale.

As I write today, in the back of mind rests more than a handful of permutations for my Black Friday plan of attack. Do I really need a new 42 inch HDTV? How about various seasons of television on DVD/Blu-ray for rock bottom prices? What about one of those sweet Dyson vacuum cleaners with the roller ball? The answer to all of the above is most likely a resounding “no”, but need isn’t what Black Friday is all about. Not even close. Black Friday is all about getting something/anything on the cheap if for no other reason than because if you don’t, then the person behind you in line will. Oh, America. How I love thee.

Tarsem Singh to Direct KILLING ON CARNIVAL ROW

With his Greek-inspired epic Immortals currently in theaters and his take on Snow White, Mirror, Mirror, slated to release in March, director Tarsem Singh is setting his sights on the future. Singh is now reportedly attached to direct Killing on Carnival Row, a spec script by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans) that was originally set up six years ago. The noir fantasy-thriller revolves around a serial killer loose in Burgue, a future city that resembles 18^th century London and is inhabited by both humans and other creatures.

Producers Arnold and Anne Kopelson previously had the project set up at New Line and were close to production with directors Guillermo del Toro, whose Pacific Rim was also written by Beacham, and Neil Jordan (The Brave One). First Trailer for Tarsem Singh’s MIRROR MIRROR Starring Julia Roberts

Fresh off the first trailer for the battle-heavy Snow White and the Huntsman, Relativity has released the first look at their take on Snow White, Mirror Mirror. Directed by Tarsem Singh, the fantasy film is described as a “comedic adventure”and centers on Snow White (Lily Collins) setting out to reclaim her birthright from the Evil Queen (Julia Roberts). Mirror Mirror couldn’t be more different from Huntsman. It’s light, fluffy, and goofy. It’s also pretty close to terrible. The film almost comes off as a farce, it’s just so incredibly goofy. It’s as if Adam Sandler‘s Happy Madison decided to make a Snow White movie. With Tarsem at the helm, we’re sure to be in for a visual treat, but I fear the tone may painfully overshadow the extravagant visuals.

I’m going to bypass my usual opening paragraph musings this week and simply wish everyone a Happy Veterans Day weekend. Given that I don’t have any immediate family or friends who serve, I won’t claim to know the first thing about the sacrifices that each serviceman/woman and their respective families and friends are continually asked to make. I reap all of the benefits of their service without any of the concessions. As a result, I owe a debt of gratitude to each and every one of them.

IMMORTALS Review

“The director is God.”  It’s a saying that has been applied to directors of both stage and screen.  Directors (theoretically) control every aspect of a production and they marshal armies of various departments to bring forth a vision.  Director Tarsem Singh took the saying as the subtext for his new movie, Immortals.  Singh has always been an indulgent visual stylist, but with Immortals, he has bent a script to create a shining tribute to his own genius.  On the page, the movie is a standard “Hero from humble beginnings”, but in the hands of Singh, it becomes lush, outlandish, baffling, and above all, vainglorious.

Extremely Bloody Fight Scene from Tarsem Singh’s IMMORTALS

“If you anger the gods, prepare to have your ass handed to you.” That’s what Immortals director Tarsem Singh (The Cell) appears to be saying in this clip from the upcoming Greek epic. Definitely not approved by the MPAA for primetime promos, the 80-second fight scene features glowing golden gods rending creatures apart in spectacularly bloody fashion. I don’t recall the Greek gods having chain whips or kamas, but I’m not complaining.

Immortals follows Theseus (Henry Cavill) as he teams up with the Greek gods to take down the power-hungry King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke). The film also stars Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Joseph Morgan, Kellan Lutz, and Stephen Dorff. Immortals opens this Friday, November 11. Hit the jump to check out the clip.

Tarsem Singh Talks IMMORTALS and MIRROR, MIRROR

With director Tarsem Singh’s new film Immortals opening this weekend, over the next few days Collider is going to be overrun with exclusive interviews with the filmmakers and cast.  For those not familiar with Immortals (watch the trailer and clips), the film centers on Theseus (Henry Cavill), a mortal, who teams up with the Greek gods in order to defeat the power-hungry King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke).  The film also stars Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Joseph Morgan, Kellan Lutz, and Stephen Dorff.

During my extended video interview with Singh, he talked about his media training, how the finished film compares with his original vision, the technology that was used making the film, deleted scenes, slow motion, and more.  In addition, we talked about his Snow White movie Mirror, Mirror and if Sean Bean will actually survive for once (he dies in almost every movie/TV show he’s a part of).  Hit the jump to watch.

Relativity’s Snow White Film Titled MIRROR MIRROR

Thank the maker! It’s finally time to put Untitled Snow White Project That’s Not the One with Kristen Stewart to bed, as Relativity’s competing Snow White project finally has a title: Mirror Mirror. It’s a fine title, and pretty much gets the point across that we’re dealing with fairy tales here. While there’s a multitude of Snow White movies in development, this one differs greatly from its main competitor, Snow White and the Huntsman. The Kristen Stewart-led pic is an epic, dark, and gritty take on the fairy tale, while Mirror Mirror is described as a lighthearted comedy action-adventure.

The Fall’s Tarsem Singh directs, so we’re in for a visual treat, and Lily Collins stars as the eponymous Snow White. The supporting cast that includes Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, Armie Hammer as the prince, Sean Bean as the King, as well as Nathan Lane. Brett Ratner Talks TOWER HEIST, the Oscars, BEVERLY HILLS COP 4, HONG KONG PHOOEY, the Woody Allen Documentary He’s Producing

With Brett Ratner’s comedy Tower Heist opening this weekend, I was able to chat with the busy director on the phone when he was in New York City promoting the movie.  Starring Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, Matthew Broderick, Casey Affleck, Gabourey Sidibe, Téa Leoni, Stephen Henderson, Judd Hirsch, Michael Peña, and Alan Alda, Tower Heist centers on a group of disgruntled employees who decide to rob a white-collar criminal living under house arrest in their high-rise after he scams them all out of their savings.

During our wide-ranging conversation, Ratner talked about how he got involved in the project and who was originally going to star in it, the test screening process, deleted scenes, improv, what will be on the Blu-ray/DVD, and what it was like to work with Eddie Murphy.  In addition, Ratner talked about producing next year’s Oscars, future projects like Movie 43, 39 Clues, Hercules, Hong Kong Phooey, Beverly Hills Copy 4, Rush Hour 4, the Woody Allen documentary that he’s producing, and a lot more.  Hit the jump for the interview and audio.

Given Singh’s penchant for breathtaking (and unique) visuals, this should be one great looking action pic. We’ve been provided with eight clips from The Fall director Tarsem Singh’s new film Immortals. The pic centers on Theseus (Henry Cavill), a mortal, who teams up with the Greek gods in order to defeat the power-hungry King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke). Instead of depicting the gods as ginormous otherworldly creatures, Singh has taken a different route and instead the gods take the form of chiseled immortal beings that don’t look dissimilar from humans.

The film also stars Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Joseph Morgan, Kellan Lutz, and Stephen Dorff.  Immortals opens in 3D on November 11th and we’ll have exclusive interviews with the cast the week of release.  Hit the jump to watch the clips.
