A teaser poster for The Bourne Legacy has gone online and it’s a strong contender for Dumbest Tagline of 2012. The tagline: “Prepare for the Unexpected”. Really, Poster? “Prepare for the Unexpected.” How do you propose I go about doing that? Plastic tarps and duct tape? Buy up bottled water? What do you want from me, teaser poster. Also, this poster looks so bland that it might be a promo poster rather than something Universal’s actually going to put up in theaters.
Hit the jump to prepare for an expected poster. The film stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, and Edward Norton. The Bourne Legacy opens August 3rd. In a related story, we’ve update the first image from the movie with a hi-res version. Click here to check it out the image. [Update: Universal has informed us that this is not the official one-sheet for the film and has asked us to take the poster down. We'll of course bring you the actual poster for the film once it's released.]

A couple days we showed you the debut trailer and promo posters for The Expendables 2. I didn’t watch the trailer, but I assume it’s a refined costume drama in the vein of Emma. Either that or macho ass-kicking featuring genre-favorite action stars. A new poster leads more towards the latter as we see Sylvester Stallone stoically wondering what scared the number “2″ so badly.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film also stars Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Expendables 2 opens August 17, 2012. [Update: We've been provided with the hi-res version of the poster, which is now included after the jump.]

We’re getting two Abraham Lincoln movies next year. One is from Steven Spielberg and focuses on the last four months of Lincoln’s life. It’s based on Doris Kearns Goodwin‘s acclaimed non-fiction book Team of Rivals. The other, directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted), is about Lincoln fighting vampires because that’s how silly mash-ups work. It’s based on the book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith. A lenticular poster has debuted for Bekmambetov’s movie. Because the poster is lenticular, the scene will change from day to night as you pass by. It lets the viewer know that Abraham Lincoln spent a lot of time sitting in his favorite chair with his trusty axe by his side. Take that, Historical Accuracy.
Hit the jump to check out the poster(s). The film stars Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Rufus Sewell. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22, 2012.

As you may have noticed, summer 2012 movies are getting marketed like crazy as audiences head to the multiplex over the holidays. We’ve recently had at least one trailer every day this week for a summer film, and posters usually come along with the package. We haven’t gotten a trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (or anything beyond these images), but a poster for the film may have gone online. Collider reader John sent us a link to a snapped photo of what could be the film’s teaser poster. It looks legit, especially since there’s no MPAA rating on the bottom. Fakes usually carry that even though the film hasn’t come close to being screened and rated by the MPAA.
If it is the poster, it’s serviceable. There’s nothing to imply the connection to Alien (or Alien‘s DNA), but the poster lets you know it’s sci-fi and the movie arrives June 8, 2012. I can’t make out the tagline, but we’ll update the story when the official version is release. Hit the jump to check out the poster. The 3D film stars Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, and Guy Pearce. [Update: The poster was the real deal. You can check out the official, hi-res version after the jump.]

Last week, we showed you the new teaser poster for The Amazing Spider-Man. Sony has now sent us a hi-res, un-watermarked version. The reboot isn’t so much “The Untold Story” (Peter Parker doesn’t get bitten by a radioactive hobo) as much as “The Same Story with a New Twist”. Director Marc Webb has promised a grittier, darker Spider-Man story, and judging from what was presented at Comic-Con, that take is basically, “With great power, comes great responsibility, but what would you do if you never had any power before?” It’s a new way to come at the Spidey credo, and while I will always wonder what would’ve been with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4, I’m willing to give Webb’s take a shot.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Sally Field, and Martin Sheen. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3, 2012.

With all of the momentum that Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises has been gaining around these parts the past few days, it’s only fitting that Warner Bros. would continue to fuel the fire by sending over a new Bane teaser poster from the pic. Given that the film is still seven months away from release, I would imagine we’ll be seeing plenty more teaser one-sheets pop-up (ala The Dark Knight). In the meantime, this new sheet in addition to the original teaser poster from the film should be enough to tide me over.
Check out the new poster after the jump. The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, and Cillian Murphy. The film hits theaters on July 20th, 2012. Also, in case you missed them, be sure to check out our spoiler-free recap of the film’s six-minute IMAX prologue and the film’s initial viral marketing campaign.

In April, Drew Goddard‘s The Cabin in the Woods finally found distribution. The movie was set to be released by MGM, but then the studio had a financial meltdown and the horror film (co-written by Joss Whedon) became trapped in limbo. Nothing is known about the film other than the vague synopsis, which claims the horror flick will turn the Cabin-in-the-Woods sub-genre inside-out. Judging by this new teaser poster, that description may be literal. It’s an eye-catching image, but I prefer the taglines from the 2009 series of teaser posters.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchinson, Fran Kanz, Jesse Williams, Bradley Whitford, and Richard Jenkins. The Cabin in the Woods opens April 13, 2012. [Update: We've been sent the high resolution version of the poster, which is now included after the jump.]

Last week, we brought you a couple photos of the Men in Black 3 teaser posters that were posted inside and outside movie theaters over Thanksgiving weekend. Sony has now released hi-res versions of those posters online. As far as eye-catching posters go, they’re not bad. I’m still not interested in the movie, but that’s mostly because of the the re-writes, which were due to the boneheaded decision to start with an incomplete script. We previously reported that the story revolved around Agent J (Will Smith) going back in time to save a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) and avert a world-ending disaster, but after all the script changes I’m not sure that’s still accurate. Smith and Brolin are still in the movie (as are Tommy Lee Jones, Jemaine Clement, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Nicole Scherzinger, Rip Torn, and Johnny Knoxville), and I’m going to assume the time-travel element is still in place, but I’m not comfortable relying on that old logline.
Hit the jump to check out the posters. Men in Black 3 opens in 3D on May 25, 2012.

The Farrelly Brothers’ almost have almost reached the finish line with their long-in-development passion-project, an adaptation of The Three Stooges. The project was once a big-budget affair with Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, and Benecio Del Toro set to play the titular knuckleheads. Then the project fell apart and looked pretty much dead until the Farrellys were able to resurrect it with far less expensive actors. The movie now stars Sean Hayes as Larry, Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe, and Will Sasso as Curly, and we now have a glimpse of the actors in character (above) plus a silhouette poster bearing the tagline “Just Say Moe.” You can’t really go wrong with a pun based on an outdated anti-drug slogan.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film also stars Jane Lynch, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Hudson, and Larry David. The Three Stooges opens April 4, 2012.

Universal has released a teaser poster for the 3D animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. You may recall the Lorax’s advice that chopping down trees is bad and to take heed of the word “Unless”, which is a more subtle and gentle way of saying “WARNING: DON’T USE ALL OUR NATURAL RESOURCES”. Danny DeVito will voice The Lorax, which is an odd choice especially when you consider that his character on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia somehow finds a way to be more disgusting with every new episode. The film also features the voices of Zac Efron as main character Ted, Taylor Swift as Ted’s love-interest Audrey, Ed Helms as the Once-ler, Rob Riggle as greedy financial king O’Hare, and Betty White as Ted’s wise grandmother.
Hit the jump to check out the orange and mustachioed teaser poster. The Lorax opens in 3D (I’m sorry “TREE-D”; oh, puns) on March 2, 2012. Also, speaking of animated movies from Universal, click here for the Despicable Me 2 promo poster.

New posters have gone online for American Reunion, Carnage, In Time, and Drive. I love the one for American Reunion because the tagline hints it will be the last one. There’s also the French poster for Carnage which does a solid job of showing that the film is a comedy first and a drama second (I know it’s tough to wrap your mind around a Roman Polanski comedy, but try). There’s an awkward embrace between stars Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried in the UK In Time poster. Finally, there are two more posters for Drive. They both just re-appropriate still images from the movie, but I got no complaints. I can’t wait to see the movie again.
Hit the jump to check out the posters. American Reunion opens April 6, 2012. Carnage opens this December. In Time opens October 28th. Drive opens September 16th.

Following yesterday’s exciting motion poster for The Hunger Games, Lionsgate has now released a boring old non-moving teaser poster for the film. In the past 24 hours, I’ve become so jaded that if a poster doesn’t show the movie’s featured symbol bursting into flames, then I don’t see the point. But I suppose this will have to do and if you swing by various theater chains this weekend (it seems like all of the majors except for Regal), you’ll be able to pick up a mini-version for yourself. If they have them here at Comic-Con, I’ll begrudgingly shove people out of the way so I can get one.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, and Woody Harrelson. The Hunger Games opens March 23, 2011.

The first official teaser poster for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises has landed online and, in doing so, has successfully made my night. While I’ll shy away from over-analyzing the sheet, I will say it looks to be making use of the dream imagery so important to Nolan’s previous film, Inception, while simultaneously reminding me that my Summer 2012 wedding has some competition for my “most anticipated” summer event (I’m joking…for the most part).
Hit the jump to check out the poster. Opening on July 20th, 2012, The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, and Morgan Freeman. Also, be sure to check back here for the film’s teaser trailer which is expected to debut later this week with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

I’m seriously starting to worry about the marketing approach for Andrew Stanton’s John Carter. The film was originally titled John Carter of Mars, which is its hook: Normal name, other planet. Then, presumably because a focus group told them to, Disney cut off the interesting part and we’re left with the completely bland “John Carter“. Now they’ve released the first teaser poster. Does it hint at the majestic weirdness of the alien planet Carter finds himself transported to? Nope, just lead actor Taylor Kitsch not wearing a shirt and the initials “JCM”. The “M” is meaningless because “of Mars” has been removed from the title, but more importantly, if you pass this poster in your local multiplex and have no idea about the movie, what will think about it? You could easily mistake it for an ad for men’s body spray.
None of this is a reflection of the actual quality of the film, but Disney is doing a poor job of selling what I’m certain was not a cheap movie. Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film also stars Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church, and Willem Dafoe. John Carter opens March 9th.
[Update: We've been provided with the high-resolution version of the poster, which we've now included after the jump]

It seems like the fully-animated motion-capture craze has come and gone with the shuttering of Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers Digital and the box office bomb Mars Needs Moms. However, before that bomb exploded, directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson decided to do a mo-cap trilogy adaptation of the internationally popular comic book series, The Adventures of Tintin. The cast includes Jamie Bell, Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Cary Elwes, Toby Jones, Mackenzie Crook, and Daniel Mays.
But how do you market a mo-cap adaptation of a Belgian comic that isn’t widely-recognized by the American mainstream? With airplanes, flaming ships, and a silhouetted figure in a trenchcoat. That’s what you’ll see on the UK poster for the flick along with attention paid not to the cast, but to screenwriters Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright, and Joe Cornish. Hit the jump to check out the poster. The first trailer for the film is set to go online tomorrow. The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (a subtitle that was left off the poster) opens in 3D on December 23rd. [Update: The US teaser poster has also gone online. I slightly prefer the UK version, but the US teaser is no slouch and it shows off the ship, "The Unicorn"]
