Chris Pratt Talks MONEYBALL, TEN YEAR and FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT

At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, I was able to talk with Chris Pratt about director Bennett Miller’s Moneyball.  Based on Michael Lewis’ book, the film stars Brad Pitt as Billy Beane, the general manager of Oakland Athletics who helped usher in a statistical revolution to professional baseball.  Jonah Hill plays a fictional character based on Paul DePodesta, and Pratt plays Scott Hatteberg.  Moneyball also stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, Stephen Bishop and Kathryn Morris.

During the interview, Pratt talked about how he got cast in the film, what advice he got from Hatteberg, the screenplay by Steve Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin, and what the last year has been like.  He also talks about his characters in both Ten Year and Five-Year Engagement with Jason Segel.  Hit the jump to watch.

TIFF 2011: TEN YEAR Review

People tend to freak out a little when it comes to their ten year high school reunion.  They see it as a chance to make up for past regrets, prove how well they’re doing (even if they’re not), and regress a bit to the meaningless drama of our teenage years.  Jamie Linden’s Ten Year gets the meaningless drama part.  Following a group of male friends and their female appendages, Ten Year features redundant storylines, a dearth of humor, an almost total lack of creativity, and a waste of a perfectly good cast.

Lynn Collins Talks JOHN CARTER and TEN YEAR; Says the CARTER Reshoots Took Out Some of the Punches

A few days ago, I got to talk with Lynn Collins about both John Carter and Ten Year at Disney’s D23 convention in Anaheim.  When I spoke with director Andrew Stanton a few months ago about John Carter, he revealed they did some reshoots and the main thing they worked on was Lynn Collins (Dejah Thoris) character.  While he wasn’t very specific about what they reshot, Collins was more forthcoming, as she told me they had to “take out some of the punches.  There were a lot of punches.”  She went on to explain that they were trying to see how masculine could they make Dejah when they first shot it, and they had to figure out how they could they make her a warrior without it coming off as too much.

A few weeks ago we posted the first official image from director Jamie Linden ‘s Ten Year when the film got announced as part of this year’s Toronto Film Festival.  Now, thanks to Voltage Pictures website, we’ve got a number of new images and the first poster.  Starring Channing Tatum, Ron Livingston, Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Chris Pratt, Kate Mara, Lynn Collins and Oscar Isaac, Ten Year is about a group of friends returning home for their ten year high school reunion.  Hit the jump for more. Continuing our assault of all the new movie images that hit the net this morning, we’ve got our first official looks at Steve McQueen’s Shame (starring Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale and Nicole Beharie), Fernando Meirelles 360 (starring Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, Rachel Weisz and Ben Foster), Jamie Linden’s Ten Year (starring Channing Tatum, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, Kate Mara, Anthony Mackie and Chris Pratt) and Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut Coriolanus (which stars Fiennes and Gerard Butler).

While many Film Festivals hope to land a few big movies, this year’s Toronto International Film Festival is an insane lineup that’s loaded with huge actors and high profile projects.  Like the past few years, I’ll be at TIFF, so you can expect plenty of reviews/interviews during the Festival which runs from September 8-18th.  Hit the jump to check out all the new images.

In my article yesterday about the Venice Film Festival, I made some predictions on which films would make their world premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival and not Venice.  It turns out a few of my guesses were only the tip of the iceberg.  Moneyball, 50/50, and The Descendants are all going to premiere at TIFF.  But my lord, does Toronto have an incredible line-up this year.  I’m praying my application gets approved because when you hit the jump and check out this line-up, you’ll understand my agony if I’m stuck in Atlanta while these films are premiering.

Anthony Mackie Exclusive Video Interview THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU; Updates on REAL STEEL, TEN YEAR, MAN ON A LEDGE

Opening this weekend is writer-director George Nolfi’s romance/thriller The Adjustment Bureau. Based on the short story Adjustment Team by Philip K. Dick, the film centers on the apparently forbidden relationship between politician David Norris (Matt Damon) and Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt).  As the story goes, the two are kept apart by a mysterious team of adjusters who claim it’s in everyone’s best interest if they go their separate ways.  Playing members of the Adjustment Bureau are Terence Stamp, John Slattery and Anthony Mackie.  For more on the film, click here to watch 7 clips.

Anyway, I recently got to speak with the cast for our partners at Omelete and after the jump you can watch my interview with Anthony Mackie.  He talked about how he got involved in the movie, working with writer-director George Nolfi, filming in New York City, how have the last few years been since The Hurt Locker, and he gave me updates on a few of his upcoming movies like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Man on a Ledge, Ten Year, and Real Steel:

The comedy Happythankyoumoreplease follows the lives of a group of 20-something New Yorkers struggling to not only figure out themselves, but navigate their lives and loves. Actress Kate Mara plays Mississippi, an aspiring singer who is currently working as a waitress. She meets aspiring novelist Sam Wexler (Josh Radnor) and, as the two explore their attraction to each other, she tests his fear of commitment by wanting him to open his heart to her.

At the film’s press day, actress Kate Mara did this exclusive interview with Collider to talk about how she got involved with the film, getting to showcase her singing talent, working with Josh Radnor and trusting him as a first-time director, what initially interested her in acting, and how she and her sister, Rooney Mara, would love to do a project together someday. She also talked about her upcoming roles in the medieval period piece Ironclad and the ensemble drama Ten Year. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Casting Call: Tim McGraw in SAFE HOUSE; Rosario Dawson and Lynn Collins Join TEN YEAR; Jack Huston Now a Regular on BOARDWALK EMPIRE

Tim McGraw (The Blind Side) is in talks to star opposite Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in Safe House.  The action thriller follows “the only surviving agent of an attack on a CIA safe house (Reynolds) as he tries to get a lethal prisoner (Washington) to a second safe house before being taken out by violent forces that want them both dead.”  According to Heat Vision, McGraw will play Reynolds’ mentor at the CIA, who may not be all he appears to be.”  Daniel Espinoza (Snabba Cash) will direct from a script by David Guggenheim, which recently landed on the 2010 Black List of the top unproduced screenplays in Hollywood.

Oscar Isaac Joins Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, Anna Faris, Justin Long, and Chris Pine in TEN YEAR

Oscar Isaac (Robin Hood) has joined the cast of the ensemble drama Ten Year, the directorial debut of We Are Marshall screenwriter Jamie Linden.  The film also stars Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, Brian Geraghty, Anna Faris, Justin Long, Kate Mara, Chris Pratt, Chris Pine, Scott Porter and Anthony Mackie as friends reconnecting ten years after their high school graduation.  According to Risky Business, Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are producing with Tatum’s 33andOut Productions partner Reid Carolin.

Ten Year is set to begin shooting this month in New Mexico.  Oscar Isaac will be seen next in Sucker Punch in March.

Channing Tatum Organizes TEN YEAR Reunion; Invites Chris Pine, Anna Faris, Chris Pratt, Scott Porter

Out to prove he’s more than just an immensely pretty face, Channing Tatum hopes to make it as a producer as well.  We heard about his first effort, the thriller The Contortionist’s Handbook, earlier this month.  Project number two is an ensemble drama entitled Ten Year, which reunites a group of friends a decade after their high school graduation.  Naturally, Tatum intends to star in addition to his producerial duties, shared with producing partner Reid Carolin (Stop-Loss) as well as Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey (Eclipse).

According to THR, Tatum hired his Dear John scribe Jamie Linden to write and direct, with a few of Tatum’s friends in mind for the ensemble.  There’s a role set aside for wife Jenna Dewan (Step Up), and the wishlist includes Chris Pine (Star Trek), Anna Faris (Observe and Report), Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation), and Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights).  There are no deals in place yet, but if Tatum and Co. can land that cast, I’m sold.  I actually tend to respect Tatum more than most males in my age bracket, and like the conceit enough that I imagine I could get behind even a Pine-less Ten Year.  The filmmakers hope to assemble financing and cast in time for a November shoot.
