Today, we have two images of two leading men with weapons: Vin Diesel as Riddick and Tyler Perry as Alex Cross. Diesel has been hard at work completing the third film in the franchise that started with Pitch Black and continued in The Chronicles of Riddick. This iteration finds our anti-hero left for dead on a desert planet infested with predators.  Riddick is forced to activate a beacon that alerts mercenaries to come and collect their prize.

Perry stars in the adaptation of James Patterson’s novel, “Cross,” as the titular detective.  Alex Cross pits Perry against a sadistic serial killer (Matthew Fox) in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.  Hit the jump to check out the images.

The A&E drama series Longmire, based on the Walt Longmire mystery novels by best-selling author Craig Johnson, is a contemporary crime thriller set in Big Sky country. Walt Longmire (Australian actor Robert Taylor) is the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming, who buries the pain of losing his wife behind a brave face and dry wit. With the help of Victoria “Vic” Moretti (Katee Sackhoff), a female deputy new to the department, Longmire becomes reinvigorated about his job and committed to running for re-election, as he rebuilds his personal and professional life.

During this exclusive interview with Collider, actress Katee Sackhoff talked about how this show came about and how it came down to either Longmire or the ABC fantasy series Once Upon A Time (she was up for Jennifer Morrison’s role), how she identifies with her character, and what she enjoys about working with this cast. She also talked about what appealed to her about doing the next Riddick film with Vin Diesel, her crazy audition process for the role, her feelings about the Battlestar Galactica finale, and her dream of playing a country singer who falls in love with a rodeo cowboy (for the film Paper Wings). Peter Segal (Get Smart) is reportedly in talks to direct Vin Diesel (The Fast and the Furious) in the action film, The Machine for MGM.  At the moment, Segal is currently attached to Warner Bros. pictures Grudge Match and the adaptation of the manga, Bleach, so this more than likely won’t be his next feature.  Segal is producing Bleach and may end up directing the picture, while he is attached to direct the Grudge Match, about a boxing rematch between aging fighters. Diesel, meanwhile, is currently in post-production on The Untitled Chronicles of Riddick Sequel, which we can expect to see sometime early next year.  Hit the jump for more information on his involvement in The Machine, as well as the picture’s plot synopsis.

While you probably know her as Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, Katee Sackhoff will soon have a new sci-fi franchise to add to her repertoire. We previously reported that Sackhoff was being considered for a role opposite Vin Diesel in the upcoming sci-fi flick, Riddick. It now looks as if she’s a lock as Sackhoff is reported to be in final negotiations for the role. She’ll be playing Dahl, a Nordic mercenary tasked with tracking down the titular anti-hero. Also playing the mercenary game is Jordi Molla (Blow) who will play Santana,  a leader of an eight-man crew bent on killing Riddick. Things are not looking up for our favorite Furyan.

The third installment of the franchise that started with Pitch Black and staggered with The Chronicles of Riddick was once again written and directed by David Twohy; it also stars Karl Urban reprising his role as Lord Vaako. Hit the jump for more on Riddick.

I was under the impression that the third Riddick film would try to put as much distance between it and The Chronicles of Riddick as possible.  Whenever Vin Diesel brings up the new sequel, he always mentions Pitch Black and not the PG-13 flop that had him and director David Twohy scrapping to get an R-rated third installment off the ground.  But Bloody-Disgusting reports that Karl Urban, who played the disgraced “Lord Vakko” in Chronicles, will be returning for the third movie.  While we’ve been calling the upcoming film “Riddick” and all the concept art is labeled “Riddick“, BD refers to the movie with its older title, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking, so maybe that’s being used again? (I hope not.  Unless you’re a Naked Gun movie, your title should not be a play on words).

There’s no word yet on how Vakko will factor into the plot but you can hit the jump for the official synopsis.  Urban will next be seen playing the title character in the new adaptation of Judge Dredd, Dredd.

Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick are among the many Vin Diesel movies I’ve never seen, but I respect the fondness for the character among fans.  Diesel has spoken in the past about a possible sequel, which may be coming sooner than expected.  Diesel has spoken with writer/director David Twohy about Riddick, and it could film as early as this summer with an R rating and everything.  One caveat:

“[Twohy] just landed in New York with the good news. We can start filming this summer. However, there is a catch… in order for us to make a true R rated film, I must work for scale upfront.”

It’s been awhile since we’ve received much information in regards to the much-anticipated third Chronicles of Riddick film, simply entitled Riddick.  Back in May, we brought you some concept art as well as a potential synopsis for the film.  However, since then, it’s been all quiet along the Riddick front.  With that in mind, for those of you who are starving for some info on the film, we have an update from Vin Diesel.  Via Facebook, Diesel posted this message:

“So the director of Riddick, my partner on COR since the beginning, DT… has a new challenge in store. He wants me to have 3 different body looks for this next chapter…

There is the DiNorscio type, the Dom type, and the lean Furyan type… but all in the same movie, haha…

When it comes to art, we all like a challenge.”

A presentation from the highly-anticipated Riddick was recently shown to potential buyers and someone has posted it online.  It’s a ten-minute video but the promo stuff starts in at about 5:30.  Everything before is a brief introduction by Vin Diesel followed by quick trailer of all the previous Riddick work, including the video games, cut together.  It looks like the title they’ve settled on (at least for now) is “Riddick” which is so much better than the previously-rumored title, “The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking”.

Writer-director David Twohy begins talking about the film at around 5:30 and he shows off some very cool concept art and talks about the film.  There’s even a shot of the synopsis.  But looking at the concept art, it looks like Twohy describes it: “visceral” and “R-rated”.  Riddick fans should definitely check this out and even if you were left cold by The Chronicles of Riddick, this presentation may make you a believer again.  Hit the jump to check out the presentation.  The film is currently set to hit theaters in 2011.

Lots of new details have come to light regarding David Twohy’s third Riddick movie with the worst detail being the title: The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking.  If you’re thinking about making your title a pun: don’t.  Thankfully, that’s the worst-sounding part of the new film.  Corona Coming Attractions has read the script for the new film and learned that we’re going back to meaner, leaner Richard B. Riddick (Vin Diesel).  The character has given up the Necromonger crown, shrugged off the shackles of civilization, and returned to his home planet of Furya.  The only problem is that now he’s being stalked by deadly creatures and deadly mercenaries.

In an article detailing the sale of the recently-announced and long-awaited third installment in Vin Diesel and David Twohy’s Riddick series, THR has revealed a few new details on the project.  Here’s what they have to say:

Though billed as a back-to-basics approach to the character popularized by Diesel, the script features the character — the most wanted man in the galaxy — left for dead on a barren alien planet, dealing with “trisons” (three-legged bisons) and “mud demons.” He must then contend with two squads of bounty hunters, one of which ride rockets called jetcycles.

Riddick versus monsters and bounty hunters is definitely the basics and removed from the silly necromonger-plot of the second film.  I don’t need prison planets or sun planets or planets of the dead.  I need a bad-ass anti-hero and that’s why my favorite moment in The Chronicles of Riddick is “I’m going to kill you with my teacup.”

It turns out that Vin Diesel is no longer full of shit.  After many years of what seemed like manufactured buzz from the actor to keep his fans interested, Variety now reports that Diesel and writer/director David Twohy will finally make the third installment in the Chronicles of Riddick franchise.  Diesel has continued to keep hope alive in a sequel ever since the cliffhanger ending of 2003′s The Chronicles of Riddick.  Despite the lackluster box office of part two, the film did manage to gross $116 million worldwide and spawn two successful videogames (Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena) Universal has decided to finally give the greenlight to telling the next chapter in the tale of the eye-shinin’ anti-hero.

On his Facebook page [via ComingSoon], Vin Diesel announced that “The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.”  Wow!  A new Chronicles of Riddick movie! That is exciting!  So who’s financing this adventure?  I know you’re going back down to your Pitch Black budget but I’m sure in this economy, someone out there is willing to give you guys money to make a movie with only a strong cult following and no broader appeal.  I would assume that David Twohy would return to direct, but that would be weird because in August he told Steve that his next project is a film called Crying Havoc.

Here’s what I think is the truth: Vin Diesel is lying.  He is lying his ass off to continue interest not in a 3^rd Riddick movie, but in Vin Diesel and letting the fans know that he’s really trying to come back to do those popular franchises.  He loves those projects!  He really wants to do them!  Bullshit.  Vin Diesel is no closer to getting a 3^rd Riddick movie made than I am to seeing perfectly in the dark with a mystical eye-shine ability.  But I believe Steve put it best in an editorial he wrote earlier this year, “Vin Diesel is full of shit.“

I like Vin Diesel. I really like “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick”. In fact, I like both movies so much that when I had an opportunity to speak with writer/director David Twohy last week for his new movie “A Perfect Getaway”, I made sure to ask him everything I could think of about a 3rd “Riddick” movie. And you know what he said? “I think we will make another movie when Vin commits fully to it”. He went on to say “I’m calling him out. Did you see me?” Meaning, he’d love to make one, but it’s not on him.

So I have to ask: Does this sound like a writer/director getting ready to turn in a new script next month on a third “Riddick” movie? Because according to Vin Diesel (via Facebook) that’s what he’s doing. So I think it’s finally time to say it. Vin Diesel is full of shit. Find out why after the jump:

As I just said in the intro of my Timothy Olyphant interview, just a few hours ago I was on the red carpet of writer/director David Twohy’s new film “A Perfect Getaway”. The film stars Timothy Olyphant, Milla Jovovich, Kiele Sanchez, Chris Hemsworth, Marley Shelton and Steve Zahn and it’s a murder mystery that takes place in Hawaii. It’s a film where you’re constantly trying to figure out who are the murderer’s.

Anyway, while I asked him about his latest film, since I’m a big fan of “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick”, I also asked what’s the status of a 3^rd Riddick movie. The other thing I asked was did he ever have an idea for the third Riddick film when they were making the 2^nd one. Finally, David talked about his next film “Crying Havoc” and said Ridley Scott will be producing it. Watch the interview after the jump:
