Producers Aaron Ryder and Marc Evans THE RAVEN Interview

Now playing at theaters everywhere is director James McTeigue‘s (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin) The Raven.  If you’re not familiar with the film, the story takes place in 1840s Baltimore where a series of grisly murders appear to have been inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe (played by John Cusack).  Poe and a detective (Luke Evans) must team up to find the killer before he takes out the woman Poe loves (Alice Eve).  The film also stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Brendan Gleeson.   For more on the film, here’s the trailer and 40 images.

Recently, I got to sit down with producers Aaron Ryder and Marc Evans for an extended interview.  We talked about how they got involved in The Raven, the rating, deleted scenes, how the script changed when the actors got cast, Poe’s dark and extraordinary life, and more.  In addition, they also talked about their upcoming projects like House at the End of the Street with Jennifer Lawrence, Jeff NicholsMud, The Cold Light of Day and The Strangers 2.  Hit the jump for what they had to say.

First Trailer for Action Thriller COLD LIGHT OF DAY Starring Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 30th, 2012 at 12:42 pm

The first trailer for the action-thriller Cold Light of Day has gone online. The film centers on a man (Henry Cavill) whose family is abducted while vacationing in Spain. As he puts the pieces of their disappearance together, the man uncovers family secrets and a government conspiracy that are responsible for the crime. It looks like a neat little espionage actioner, but I’m not really seeing anything new or interesting being brought to the genre. That said, Cavill sure seems like he can handle himself. Bruce Willis stars as Cavill’s father in another one of his “seasoned law enforcement veteran” roles, while Sigourney Weaver is a nice addition as someone connected to Cavill’s family’s disappearance. Many will be interested in checking the film out if only to see our next Superman (Cavill dons the tights for Man of Steel) take his shot at a leading American role.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Cold Light of Day opens April 6th.

First Posters and Plot Synopses for THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY and THE GARDENER

by Ramses Flores    Posted: November 3rd, 2010 at 8:14 pm

We have some more news from AFM for you tonight.  First up, we have the first poster and full plot synopsis for The Cold Light of Day.  As we previously reported, the film will star Henry Cavill (The Tudors) as “a young American whose family is kidnapped while on a vacation to Spain.  He is left with only hours to find the connection between their disappearance and his father’s secrets.” The film will also star Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver.  The film’s plot may sound like a bland thriller, but what makes this project exciting to me is that it will be Mabrouk El-Mechn’s directorial follow-up to his surprisingly great directorial debut, JCVD.

Secondly, we also have a plot synopsis and poster for director Chris Weitz’s (About a Boy) upcoming drama, The Gardener.  The film stars Demian Bichir (Weeds) as a gardener trying to find an important pickup truck that was stolen from him with the help of his son.  The plot synopsis makes the film sound a lot like a modern adaptation of the classic Italian neorealist film, Bicycle Thieves, and it’ll be interesting to see if Weitz can make a film that is even ten percent as good as that one.  Hit the jump to check out the plot synopsis and poster for each film.

Sigourney Weaver Interview YOU AGAIN

by Christina Radish    Posted: September 22nd, 2010 at 10:37 pm

In the comedy You Again, actress Sigourney Weaver plays Ramona, the highly successful, career-driven aunt of Joanna (Odette Yustman), who has flown in from Europe to attend her niece’s wedding festivities. When she arrives at the home of Joanna’s soon-to-be in-laws, Ramona quickly realizes that she and Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis), the mother of the groom, attended the same high school 30 years ago. And, while Joanna is the high school arch nemesis of Marni (Kristen Bell), the groom’s sister, Ramona and Gail share a rivalry from their own high school years.

During a press conference at the film’s press day, Sigourney Weaver talked about working with Jamie Lee Curtis, rehearsing for the dance sequence in the film, and how the things that happen in high school really do affect you later on in your life. She also gave an update on her upcoming projects Abduction, Vamps, The Cold Light of Day, Avatar 2 and Ghostbusters 3. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Right on schedule, production on director Mabrouk El-Mechri’s (JCVD) The Cold Light of Day began yesterday in Spain.  The action-thriller is set and filmed entirely in Spain and, per the press release, focuses on “a young American whose family is kidnapped while on a vacation to Spain.  He is left with only hours to find the connection between their disappearance and his father’s secrets.”  Starring Henry Cavill (Showtime’s The Tudors), Bruce Willis, and Sigourney Weaver, The Cold Light of Day is the directorial follow-up to El-Mechri’s JCVD – a film I’ve heard a ton of positive things about but am ashamed to admit I’ve yet to see.  If you’re reading this, Mr. El-Mechri, you have my word that I’ll be checking it out soon enough.

The Cold Light of Day was penned by Scott Wiper and John Petro with revisions from Richard Price (HBO’s The Wire).  It is scheduled to film throughout the middle of November.  To check out the full press release, hit the jump.

Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver Step into THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY

Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver have joined Henry Cavill (The Tudors) in the thriller The Cold Light of Day.  Directed by Mabrouk El Mechri (the excellent JCVD), the story (per Variety) “centers on a young American whose family is kidnapped while on a vacation to Spain. He’s left with only hours to find them, uncover a government conspiracy and the connection between their disappearance and his father’s secrets.“  Cavill will play the young American and I presume that Willis will play the father.

Willis is currently attached to the action-movie/video game adaptation Kane & Lynch with Jamie Foxx, the indie crime drama Catch .44, Antoine Fuqua’s prison escape drama The Tomb, and Rian Johnson’s sci-fi flick Looper with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  He’ll next be seen as a cameo in The Expendables and as the lead in the action movie Red.  As for Weaver, she’s equally busy as she’s co-starring in the thrillers Abduction and Red Lights, and Amy Heckerling’s Vamps.  She’ll next be seen in the sci-fi comedy Paul with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as well as the Kristen Bell romantic comedy You AgainThe Cold Light of Day is set to begin filming on September 6th.

Henry Cavill (The Tudors) has signed on to star in the kidnapping thriller The Cold Light of Day, with JCVD director Mabrouk El Melchri at the helm.  According to Heat Vision, the story centers on “a cocky young Wall Street trader who reluctantly vacations with his family in Spain.  When his family is kidnapped, he is thrust into a government conspiracy and must unravel his father’s darkest secret in order to save his loved ones.”

Richard Price (The Wire) is currently in the middle of polishing the script from Scott Wiper and John Petro.  Summit Entertainment and Intrepid Pictures are teaming to produce Cold Light, which is scheduled to commence production in Spain in September.
