With news on The Dark Knight Rises relatively slow at the moment, we’ve scoured the net to see what Batman fans and related entities are up to. Recently we brought you images of some pretty realistic toys for The Dark Knight Rises. Now we have some hi-res shots of those toys for you to check out. Though for some people, that’s not enough. Some people have to make their own figures . And some go a step further and craft their own credit sequence to the movie itself. Bat-fan Dogan Can Gundogdu has crafted a meticulous opening sequence for The Dark Knight Rises that gives us a taste of what the film would look like if David Fincher was the director. Hit the jump to check out the toys and the credits.

We’re about six months away from the fanatically anticipated final act in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. Have your tickets yet or did you miss out? In the meantime, we have a quick look at Batman (Christian Bale) in his new Batsuit, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly’s annual forecast issue. We’ve also got some choice quotes from Nolan about his thoughts on the final film and the trilogy overall. We’ll save the somewhat spoilery comments for after the jump, but for now, here’s what Bale had to say about rising to the demands of Batman’s adoring public on this last film:

“I can tell you the truth because I’m done with it: I felt immense pressure. And I think it’s a good pressure, because you owe it to the films — and the people’s expectations — to make great work.”

The Dark Knight Rises also stars Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine and opens July 20, 2012. Hit the jump for more.

TOP 5: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, STAR TREK Sequel, Brad Bird Interview, Another Crazy Week in Trailers

I’m writing to you this afternoon in the late stages of a full-on nostalgia buzz. The reason? Last night, I had the pleasure of taking in a performance of the Beauty and the Beast musical at St. Louis’ beautiful The Fabulous Fox theatre. Thanks to Belle’s “Little Town”, “Something There”, and the Academy Award-winning title track, I’m still giddy and in complete tune with my five-year old self nearly 24 hours after the fact. Now, if I could just get my hands on that old Proton Pack I used to lug around at all times, my return trip to the ’90s would be complete…

…In this week’s “Top 5″ you’ll find a collection of items from The Dark Knight Rises, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo interviews with David Fincher, Rooney Mara, and Daniel Craig, tidbits of news from J.J. AbramsStar Trek sequel, director Brad Bird talking about Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Incredibles sequel and more, and a recap of what has been yet another crazy week in trailers (Hint: there’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Prometheus, and Wrath of the Titans). Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.

New Bane Teaser Poster for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

With all of the momentum that Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises has been gaining around these parts the past few days, it’s only fitting that Warner Bros. would continue to fuel the fire by sending over a new Bane teaser poster from the pic. Given that the film is still seven months away from release, I would imagine we’ll be seeing plenty more teaser one-sheets pop-up (ala The Dark Knight). In the meantime, this new sheet in addition to the original teaser poster from the film should be enough to tide me over.

Check out the new poster after the jump. The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, and Cillian Murphy. The film hits theaters on July 20th, 2012. Also, in case you missed them, be sure to check out our spoiler-free recap of the film’s six-minute IMAX prologue and the film’s initial viral marketing campaign.

TOP 5: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Movie Stars Portray Famous Movie Villains, TRANSFORMERS 4, QUANTUM OF SOLACE Script Problems, Kathleen Kennedy Talks JURASSIC PARK 4, TINTIN, More

I think there’s something to be said for coming to your own conclusions. Case in point: I may currently be at odds with 77% of the Rotten Tomatoes critic community when I say this, but I found The Sitter to be worthy of my box office dollars. Was it the best comedy I’ve ever seen? Not even close. Was it the best comedy I’ve seen in the past six months? Nope. That said, I had been looking forward to the pic over the course of covering it for this site. When the critical negativity began pouring in, I could have easily passed on the film as a result (something I’ve been guilty of in the past). Instead, I decided to check it out and I laughed (quite a bit, actually). So, what’s the moral of my story? If you want to see a movie, go see it. Don’t let poor reviews detour you from something you think you may enjoy. Use reviews as a foundation for healthy debate rather than as an excuse to not give something a chance because someone else didn’t like it.

All ranting aside, in this week’s “Top 5″ installment, you’ll be able to read all about The Dark Knight Rises and its IMAX prologue, viral campaign, and potential IMAX footage runtime. You can also see George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Rooney Mara and more portraying classic movie “villains” of their choice, get up to date on Michael Bay potentially returning to direct Transformers 4, Daniel Craig discussing the script problems that plagued Quantum of Solace, and producer Kathleen Kennedy talking Jurassic Park 4, Tintin, Lincoln, and Robopocalypse. Check out a brief recap and link to each after the jump.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES to Feature between 40 – 50 Minutes of IMAX Footage

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 9th, 2011 at 7:20 am

Last night, Steve got to see the prologue for The Dark Knight Rises in IMAX.  I’ve avoided reading detailed reactions (although his is spoiler-free) because I want to go in fresh, but my understanding is that the footage is so good that it causes the blind to see, the crippled to walk, and then faded to black for our sins.  But when you put this new footage together with the critically acclaimed IMAX work Christopher Nolan did with The Dark Knight, it’s clear that the director has made the format his domain.

While The Dark Knight featured a little under half-an-hour of IMAX footage, Steve spoke with producer Emma Thomas last night and learned that The Dark Knight Rises could feature between 40 – 50 minutes of IMAX goodness.  However, Nolan and Thomas are not set on that number because Nolan hasn’t gotten around to editing anything beyond the prologue.  Hit the jump for more.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Viral Campaign Begins? [UPDATED]

by Dave Trumbore    Posted: December 7th, 2011 at 4:56 pm

After The Dark Knight launched its viral “Why So Serious?” campaign way back in 2007, the movie obviously went on to be a smash. How much of that was due in part to alternative marketing is up for debate, but with The Dark Knight Rises just around the corner, it’s no surprise that we might be seeing the beginning of another viral run-up. Recently, The Wrap (via Movie Viral) interviewed Jeff Robinov, the President of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, who said that the “marketing strategy will definitely evolve” from the previous Batman installment.

Hot on the heels of that quote, Empire and Wired (via Movie Viral) received two separate “CIA documents” concerning a Dr. Leonid Pavel. While that name doesn’t yet ring a bell, readers over at ComingSoon connected Pavel’s mugshot to that of actor Alon Aboutboul, who has a role in The Dark Knight Rises. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but hit the jump to check the documents out just the same. [Update: A new document has been added along with a link to a countdown timer ; you can check them out after the jump.]

Last Night’s SNL Digital Short Spoofs Batman’s Stealth Abilities

Steve Buscemi proved to be a very capable host on last night’s very funny episode of Saturday Night Live.  As it turns out, the week when a major pedophilia case is in the news is a great week to have Buscemi in the troupe.  But given his range, Buscemi is also suited to play the ethical Commissioner Gordon when Andy Samberg and Co. needed the character for their SNL digital short.  Samberg plays Batman, paying particular attention to his ability to sneak up on on Gordon, and vanish into thin air with the same ease.  The stealth jokes escalate from the basic setup to the point where… well, hit the jump to see for yourself.

Exclusive: Nestor Carbonell Talks RINGER, LOST and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

by Christina Radish    Posted: September 12th, 2011 at 8:36 pm

On the CW’s new serialized drama Ringer, actor Nestor Carbonell plays FBI Agent Victor Machado, whose key witness, Bridget Kelly (Sarah Michelle Gellar), has disappeared before she was set to testify in a trial that would send a mob boss to prison. Despite the assurances of her protector, Bridget decides to hide out by assuming the life of her wealthy identical twin sister Siobhan Martin (also played by Gellar), only to learn that her sister’s seemingly idyllic life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to leave behind.

During a recent exclusive interview with Collider, Nestor Carbonell talked about how the serialized nature and dark aspects of Ringer really appealed to him, how nice it is to already have viewers interested in and anticipating the series, how much he’s been enjoying working with Sarah Michelle Gellar in both roles, and that viewers will regularly get answers to questions as new ones arise. He also talked about what it’s like to know you’ll always be a part of TV history (as a result of his time on Lost), the experience of playing Mayor Anthony Garcia and working with director Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight films, and how he wasn’t even given a script for The Dark Knight Rises. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Does This New THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Set Photo Reveal Batman’s New Ride? [UPDATED With Video]

To be completely honest, I quietly hope to myself that set artifacts from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises will hit when I’m off of work so that I can avoid them at all cost. Up until now, I’ve been pretty lucky to have missed a majority of the images, videos, and/or image/video descriptions. However, tonight my luck has run out.

A new pic snapped around the Wabash Tunnel in Pittsburgh has surfaced and it reveals some sort of new Bat-vehicle. If you simply cannot wait to feast your eyes on the newest detail to come out of The Dark Knight Rises‘ Pittsburgh shoot, check out the set photo after the jump. Also, if more spoils are what you’re after, click here to check out new set videos featuring the first look at Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the film. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

UPDATED with video after the images.

TOP 5: MAN OF STEEL, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Len Wiseman, Jason Bateman & Ryan Reynolds, J.J. Abrams Updates STAR TREK 2

This week’s “Top 5″ is a special one for me. Before letting your imagination run away from you, I’ll just say that it’s not for any nostalgic reasons that connect back to the content at hand but rather because I’m writing it while literally in the midst of moving. For those who haven’t experienced this joyous task first-hand, this means that I’m currently a sweaty, disheveled, unorganized mess who can’t for the life of me figure out when/how/why I accumulated so much junk. For the record, Mom, I’m not referring to my posters. They’re awesome. Period. End of story.

All venting aside, this week’s installment features the first official look at Henry Cavill in director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, a video interview with director Len Wiseman where he discusses his Total Recall remake and the return of everyone’s favorite three-breasted woman, the first image of Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises along with a cornucopia of set photos from the film, an exclusive interview with Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds for The Change-Up, and a Star Trek 2 update from J.J. Abrams. You can find brief recaps and links to all of the above after the jump.

No one doubted that the final Harry Potter film would be huge.  Just how huge, however, is taking even box office watchers by surprise.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 already crushed the domestic midnight record with its $43.5 million launch.  Today, estimates for its first full day give the film the single day record as well.  With $92.1 million from its 4,375 locations, Deathly Hallows 2 easily topped the $72.7 million earned by Twilight Saga: New Moon in 2009.  It is now all but certain that Harry Potter will also snatch the all-time weekend record away from The Dark Knight as most projections put the film at $180 million for its first three days. Internationally, Deathly Hallows 2 took in $82.5 million on Wednesday and Thursday for a worldwide total of $173 million and counting.  Other records now lining up to be broken include the fastest film to break $100 and $200 million domestically, biggest worldwide opening of all-time and so many, many more.  Meanwhile, the one film that dared to compete with Potter this weekend was Disney’s Winnie the Pooh. From 2,405 locations Pooh took in an estimated $2.9 million. Full details and analysis tomorrow.

  Title Friday Total
1 Harry Potter 7b $92,100,000 $92
2 Transformers 3 $6,238,000 $287.8
3 Horrible Bosses $5,475,000 $47.8
4 Zookeeper $3,875,000 $33.9
5 Winnie the Pooh $2,900,000 $2.9

Box Office – HARRY POTTER and the DEATHLY HALLOWS Part 2 Shatters Midnight Record with $43.5 Million!

Ten years, eight films and over six billion dollars – Warner Brothers’ Harry Potter film franchise is coming to a close this weekend and by all accounts it is going out with a bang.  Leading up to its Friday debut, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 had already smashed the record for US pre-sales with $50 million worth of advanced tickets sold.  Today Warner Brothers reports that the film took in $43.5 million from midnight screenings alone: easily topping the previous record of $30 million set by Twilight Saga: Eclipse last summer.  A second Twilight Saga record now set to fall is the one-day US record of $72 million set by New Moon.  With many of Potter’s 4,375 theatres screening this final installment back-to-back throughout Friday, a first day of $80 million is anticipated. Here in the US the film could go as high $180 million for its first weekend – though anything over $158 million would smash the all-time 3-day weekend benchmark set by The Dark Knight in 2008.  Internationally Deathly Hallows 2 has taken in $58 million from 24 territories for a global cume of over $105 million.  We’ll update you throughout the weekend as the most successful franchise in history wraps up its remarkable run.
