We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, Lily Collins has joined the cast of the indie comedy The English Teacher. The actress joins Julianne Moore, Nathan Lane, Greg Kinnear, and Michael Angarano in Craig Zisk’s feature directorial debut. The pic centers on a high school English teacher (Moore) whose life takes a turn when one of her favorite former students (Angarano) returns to his hometown as a failed playwright. The teacher convinces her former pupil to stage the uproduced play at her school, and all does not go according to plan. Collins will play “a popular high schooler who comes into conflict with the teacher.” The actress is currently filming the starring role in Tarsem Singh’s Untitled Snow White Project.

Last week, we told you about Julianne Moore and Greg Kinnear taking roles in the indie comedy The English Teacher. Today, it looks as if Nathan Lane will partake in the fun as the actor is currently in negotiations to join the pic. The English Teacher will see Moore take on the role of Linda Sinclair, a high school English teacher whose life takes a turn when one of her favorite former students returns as a failed playwright.
Per the report, Lane is in talks to take on the role of a drama teacher who Moore turns to for help in crafting a stronger play. Production on The English Teacher will begin next month in New York. Lane is currently shooting Relativity’s Untitled Snow White Project alongside Julia Roberts and director Tarsem Singh. That film is due out on March 16th, 2012.

Julianne Moore and Greg Kinnear are set to star in the indie comedy The English Teacher. The film will mark the feature directorial debut of TV helmer Craig Zisk (Weeds, Nip/Tuck), with a script by Dan and Stacy Chariton. Variety reports that the story centers on a high school English teacher (Moore) whose life takes a turn when a former star student returns after failing as a playwright in New York City. No word on Kinnear’s role, but I’m assuming he won’t be playing the student as Moore would have been two years old when he was born. The flick starts production next month in New York. Moore recently wrapped her role as Sarah Palin in Jay Roach’s HBO movie Game Change.
