More set photos from The Muppets have gone online. The images are apparently from a big musical sequence and onlookers snapped photos and sent them to various websites. Since this sequence looks like it could be from the climax of the film, consider these images to be slightly spoiler-y.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos. The Muppets stars Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, and a ridiculous amount of cameos. The film is due out November 23, 2011.

Here's the synopsis for The Muppets:
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino house band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

Disney has released a new promo image for The Muppets, their upcoming reboot of the franchise co-written by and starring Jason Segel. The image shows Segel and new Muppet Walter super-excited to be standing next to each other. Of slightly more use is a synopsis for the film. The Muppets will have Walter, Gary (Segel), and Mary (Amy Adams) trying to save the Muppet Theater from nefarious oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper). Unfortunately, all of the Muppets have gone their separate ways and found new careers.

Hit the jump to find out what Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and the gang are up to by reading the synopsis after the jump. Also after the jump you can also check out the new (less exciting) image. The Muppets is due out November 23, 2011.

The Muppets Movie will be making their debut at the beginning of the holiday season rather than the end. While the film was originally slated for Christmas 2011, Walt Disney Studios has announced that the movie will open on November 23, 2011. This new date will put The Muppets against Aardman's animated film Arthur Christmas and Todd Phillips' comedy Project X.

Hit the jump for the official announcement from Disney. The Muppets Movie stars Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, and Rashida Jones.

Here's the official announcement from Disney:
The Walt Disney Studios announced today that it has moved the release date for its upcoming The Muppets Movie to November 23, 2011. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie the Bear, Gonzo, Animal and the rest of the gang will reunite in theaters just in time for the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend. "Disney has had incredible success opening films over the Thanksgiving weekend, and thanks to Tangled, we have the top three Thanksgiving openers of all time,” said Chuck Viane, president of global distribution for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. “I have spoken with The Muppets, and we all agreed this comedy is a great fit for the holiday 2011 time frame.”

With the litany of casting reports for Disney’s new Muppets movie that have been published, it’s been hard to keep track of who is officially in the movie. Well, apparently a few of them had jumped the gun. A few weeks ago we told you that the previously reported Jane Lynch was not attached to the movie, and now word comes that Paul Rudd will not be in it either. Speaking with MTV News, Rudd said,
"I wish that I was [in it]. It's all rumor… I wanted to be in it, and I talked to Jason, but I think there was some things that happened and I don't know if I'm gonna get to do it."
Rudd was believed to be voicing a new muppet named Walter. The flick, which stars Jason Segel and Amy Adams, is currently filming in LA. You can see set pictures and a synopsis for the film here. James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords) directs from a script by Segel and Nicholas Stoller (Get Him to the Greek). For a full list of the actors reported to be involved in the film in some capacity, hit the jump.

With every Muppet movie, comes fantastic cameos. And this one, it seems, is no different. Here is a list of actors that are reported to be appearing in the flick in some capacity: Jack Black, Zach Galifianakis, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Donald Glover, Danny Trejo, Eric Stonestreet, John Krasinski, Ed Helms, Lady Gaga, Alan Arkin, Billy Crystal, and Jean-Claude ...

Just when you think Disney's Muppets movie has a great cast of key players and cameos, they go and add more to the mix. Among the new names are Alan Arkin, Billy Crystal…and Jean-Claude Van Damme?

Last week, we got our first look at the film, followed by the news of nine actors, including John Krasinski, Paul Rudd, and Ed Helms, joining the cast (although we later discovered that Jane Lynch was not attached to the film). Then, yesterday, more set photos came along showing Amy Adams and Jason Segel smiling it up with the new muppet, Walter. Hit the jump to find out what these new roles will be, as well as the other’s previously announced.

THR reports that Arkin will be playing a tour guide, while the previously announced Jack Black will be playing a kidnap victim. The studio and producers David Hobberman and Todd Lieberman are clearly not having trouble getting actors to sign on, to the film. However, it seems that they are having a hard time trying to schedule what appears to be the biggest stars in Hollywood right now (save for Van Damme and Crystal) to appear in the film.

At this point the movie seems to be doing absolutely everything right to convince me that it will be nothing short of amazing. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the coming weeks a couple more cameos are announced, as I have no trouble believing that the producers and Segel can get anyone at this point.

Amy Adams plus muppets creates the cutest set photos ever taken. The photos (via dailymail) show her interacting with the newest muppet, Walter, who is voiced by Paul Rudd, as well as leading man and writer Jason Segel. This follows a fantastic official image which was released last week, showcasing both the minds behind The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, as well as that classic muppet charm we all know and love. For the set photos, the amazing casting, and a synopsis, continue after the jump.

The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, which is filming in Los Angeles at the moment, is looking to be one of the most promising movies of 2011. Director James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords) and co-authors Nicholas Stoller (Get Him to the Greek) and Jason Segel have been pulling in talented actors left and right, including Jack Black, Ed Helms, Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), and even Lady Gaga herself. Zach Galifianakis will also be involved playing a character named “Hobo Jo,” which sounds right up his alley. Something as wonderful as a muppet movie is sounding even more so every day.

Synopsis:
“The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made is about Gary, Mary, and Walter (a man, his girlfriend, and the man’s life-long nondescript, brown puppet best friend) getting the old Muppet gang – now retired entertainers known for the same Muppet show we know them from – together to save the TV studio that the original show was shot in. Last week, we reported that Jane Lynch had joined the cast of the upcoming Muppets movie starring Jason Segel. According to TheWrap, Lynch was supposedly playing a prison guard in the movie with Danny Trejo cast as her prisoner. However, Lynch has told THR, "I'm not doing the Muppets movie. They haven't asked me. I would do it if they asked me." On behalf of everyone who has ever seen Lynch in anything, I would like to say to the filmmakers: Ask her.

Other actors rumored to be joining Segel include Zach Galifianakis, Jack Black, Donald Glover, Eric Stonestreet, John Krasinski, Ed Helms, Lady Gaga, and Paul Rudd. James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords) will direct a script from Segel and Nicholas Stoller (Get Him to the Greek). The film is set to be released on December 25, 2011.

Huge casting updates from The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made today. Nine new names are being added to the roster of talent that comprises what may be the greatest ensemble ever formed.

Take a deep breath because we now have the following reported to be in the highly anticipated film: Jack Black, Donald Glover (Community), Jane Lynch (Glee), Danny Trejo (Machete), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), John Krasinski (The Office), Ed Helms (The Hangover), Lady Gaga, and (drumroll, please) Paul Rudd (Dinner for Schmucks). Hit the jump to see what their roles will be.

This is a lot to take in at once so let’s take it slow. Production Weekly has identified Black, Rudd, and Glover as new cast members with no roles attributed as of yet. Lady Gaga will be playing herself, accompanied by none other than an entourage consisting of Helms, Krasinski, and recent Emmy-winner Stonestreet. Up next is Lynch, who according to TheWrap is set to play a prison guard, with Trejo as her prisoner. Also, confirming earlier reports of his involvement, Zach Galifianakis (Due Date) will play a new character called Hobo Jo.

I can barely comprehend how incredible this news is. I have already explained why I think this movie will be amazing, but at this point it shouldn’t need any explaining. I Love You Man co-stars Rudd and Segel reuniting is great news right there. But add that to The Office stars Helms and Krasinski together, along with TV’s finest talent in Stonestreet and Glover, along with ...

The first photo has arrived from the set of The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made. Jason Segel is starring in the film and also co-wrote the script with Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller, who also wrote and directed Get Him to the Greek. The photo, obtained by Entertainment Weekly, shows Segel and his Muppet friends in the old TV studio that they must use to put on a show together and save it from destruction by the villain Tex Richman, reportedly being played by Chris Cooper.

Also in the photo is the first look at a new Muppet, Walter, holding up an iPhone to the camera. This would continue the tradition of Jason Segel having an iPhone in almost every movie or show that he’s a part of. For the first images, the synopsis, quotes about the film, more info on Walter, and why The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made could in fact be The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, hit the jump.

According to Segel, the crew have “worked really hard to stay true to the original story of the Muppets.” James Bobin, the director of the film, explains that “it’s a very traditional Muppet-y story.” In addition, Segel says the new Muppet, Walter, dreams to “meet the Muppets and the people who are like him.” Bobin also says that “Walter is the kind of guy who faints when he sees Kermit.”

Recently, Zach Galifianakis has been reported to join the cast, along with Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, and Rashida Jones, ...

Hand puppets are making quite the comeback these days. A few weeks ago I reported on the dark puppet film Happytime Murders that will be directed by Brian Henson, son of the legendary Jim Henson. But the one that is really grabbing headlines lately is the passion project of Jason Segel: the tentatively-titled The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made. With a name like that, it’s hard not to get excited. Co-writer Nicholas Stoller (Get Him To The Greek) mentioned in May that he had written in a ton of cameos, and Zach Galifianakis appears to be the latest in a long line of stars that are eager to get into the film. With shooting set to begin this November in L.A., expect to hear more about the film’s potential cameos in the coming weeks. Hit the jump for full details about Galifianakis, the rest of the casting rumors, and a synopsis.

The latest news about the Muppet movie comes from EW and has Galifianakis in talks to appear in the film, which will be directed by James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords). We reported earlier this month that Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, and Rashida Jones were all in talks to appear in the film. In order to be clear on who is rumored to play what role, it’s best to check out the handy synopsis below:
“The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made is about Gary, Mary, and Walter (a man, his girlfriend, and the man’s life-long nondescript, brown puppet best friend) getting ...

Writer Nicholas Stoller confirmed in May the early rumors that the The Greatest Muppet Ever Made had room for plenty of cameos in the script from celebrities of note. We're starting to see the fruit of those seeds, with Amy Adams among the first names tossed about as a candidate. Heat Vision confirms that Adams is in negotiations to play star Jason Segel's girlfriend, who helps him reunite the Muppets to put on a show in order to save a movie studio. Chris Cooper is in talks to play the villain in the film, a man who somehow never found the Muppets funny and wants to buy the studio to tap the oil underneath. Rashida Jones is likewise talking to Disney about playing an ABC executive. Hit the jump for further details on the film.

It sounds like Adams' role could be much more than a cameo, which would make my heart sing (if my heart did such things). In fact Adams, Cooper, and Jones are all terrific choices.

The film stars Jason Segel, who also co-wrote the script with Stoller. James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords) will direct and Pixar was consulted during development. The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made hits theaters December 25, 2011. Here's an early synopsis of the script:
The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time is about Gary, Mary, and Walter (a man, his girlfriend, and the man’s life-long nondescript, brown puppet best friend) getting the old Muppet gang – now retired entertainers known for ...

Amy Adams is reportedly considering roles in three upcoming films: James Bobin's untitled Muppets movie, Cameron Crowe's We Bought a Zoo, and Alex Kurtzman's Welcome to People. According to EW, negotiations for Muppets appear to be the most solid, but Disney isn't commenting. We don't know much about the Muppet movie. We know that Jason Segel co-wrote the script and will star and that the title is rumored to be The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made. Co-writer Nicholas Stoller told Steve back in May that there are tons of cameos, it will be similar in tone to The Muppet Movie, and that the movie breaks the fourth wall every five minutes.

Hit the jump for more on We Bought a Zoo, Welcome to People, and what roles Adams might play in those films.

In We Bought a Zoo, Adams would play a zookeeper opposite a grieving widower (played by Matt Damon). Based on the memoir by Benjamin Mee, We Bought a Zoo centers on Mee's purchase of a dilapidated zoo and his attempts to renovate it. EW reports that Crowe (who hasn't directed a film since 2005's Elizabethtown) is looking at a short list of actresses for the part.

Finally, Welcome to People is the directing debut of Star Trek and Transformers co-writer Alex Kurtzman. Kurtzman co-wrote Welcome to People with writing partner Roberto Orci and close friend Jody Lambert. The story (which is being "guided" by Steven Spielberg) is about a man (played by Chris Pine) who "must deliver $150,000 in cash ...

Crew from the upcoming Muppets film were flown to Pixar headquarters on Wednesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter, to get advice on the current state of the project. This wouldn’t be the first time that the Pixar team has lent a hand to a Disney production. In fact, Brad Bird (Ratatouille) and Toy Story 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt were hired to help write reshoots for Disney’s little film called Tron: Legacy last week.

While it is unclear how extensive the help that Pixar gave the crew for The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, it is obvious that Disney wants to make the most of the Midas touch that Pixar’s crew possess. Even if that means that every single live-action Disney film in the near future gets a look from Pixar, I think we can all agree that it should be an aid and not a hindrance. For more details on who from Pixar was likely involved and the current state of the Muppets film, hit the jump.

While neither Disney nor Pixar would comment on the events that took place on Wednesday, THR points out that it is likely the Muppets director James Bobin and producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman were in attendance at the meeting, along with star Jason Segel. On the Pixar side of things, some of the “Pixar Brain Trust”, including John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, Michael Arndt, Bob Peterson and president Ed Catmull were likely giving advice. THR also notes that Docter is a ...

With Get Him to the Greek getting ready to come out in a few weeks, I got to talk to writer-director Nicholas Stoller on the phone yesterday. While I'll have the entire interview online soon, I was able to get updates on all the various projects he's working on like the upcoming Muppet Movie (tentatively titled The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made), Gulliver's Travels, Stretch Armstrong, Five-Year Engagement and Einstein Theory. Here's some of the highlights:

The Muppet Movie

They had a table read a few days ago and they start filming this September
They wrote in a ton of cameos and he said it breaks the fourth wall every five minutes
Compared the tone to the original Muppet movies
Filming in Los Angeles. Thinks it's a 6 or 8 week shoot
To accommodate Jason Segal and his work on How I Met Your Mother, he'll shoot HIMYM 3 or 4 days a week and the other days will be on the Muppet movie. They will film on weekends.
Calls The Muppets a "comedy gateway-drug"

Stretch Armstrong

Confirmed he's writing it for director Rob Letterman
Says it has a light tone like Iron Man
They're creating their own universe for the character and other Hasbro characters aren't making any appearances
	Confirms it's an origin story

Gulliver's Travels

He saw a rough cut without effects and said it's awesome
Said it's "a great mix of comedy and action-adventure-fantasy that I think people are going to be really into."

Five-Year Engagement

Is thinking about directing this next

Hit the jump for a lot more. Look for the entire ...

It seems only fitting that Jason Segel has finally signed on to star in the upcoming Muppets movie. Segel has had an extensive role in the development of the upcoming film, entitled The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, which he penned with Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller. THR is now reporting that Segel will be starring in and producing the film as well.

Segel will join David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV in producing the film, with James Bobin (writer, director and producer of HBO's Flight of the Conchords) set to direct. The plot remains under wraps although the film's story could have something to do with the classic Muppets coming out of retirement after a villain looks to destroy the TV studio on which The Muppet Show was once filmed. Though that news hasn't been confirmed yet, the story is certainly intriguing enough to create a more than halfway decent Muppet film.

Fast on the heels of the very welcome news that James Bobin of Flight of the Conchords has officially signed to direct Disney's new Muppet movie, now comes early word via the Playlist of what the script looks like, and for Muppets fans (of which I'm certainly one) it mostly seems to be good news.

The movie, once known as The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made, is now actually known as The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, so no matter how tongue-in-cheek that may be, co-writers Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller had better deliver. Here's what the Playlist's source had to say about the plot synopsis:
"The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time is about Gary, Mary, and Walter (a man, his girlfriend, and the man's life-long nondescript, brown puppet best friend) getting the old Muppet gang - now retired entertainers known for the same Muppet show we know them from - together to save the TV studio that the original show was shot in. A villain, Tex Richman (nice name, on par with Doc Hopper), bent on drilling for oil underneath the studio, is due to take over the studio in weeks, and the only way to stop him? Putting on a show that draws ten million viewers (see also "Heartbroken: The Conan O'Brien Story").
Sounds suspiciously and thankfully an awful lot like what the Muppets used to get up to every week on TV when I was a youngun, so that's all good to me. And what's even better? How about ...
