We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share with you today. First up, Tom Hollander (Hanna) is joining Ralph Fiennes in The Invisible Woman, the story of the secret love affair between Charles Dickens (Fiennes) and his mistress Nelly Ternan (Felicity Jones). Empire reports that Hollander will be playing Dickens’ friend and frequent collaborator Wilkie Collins. The author co-wrote The Frozen Deep with Dickens, and it was on that production that Dickens first met Nelly, who was a theater actress. Fiennes is directing the pic, making it his follow-up after his directorial debut Coriolanus. Hollander is probably best known for the Pirates of the Caribbean films, but I thought he was incredible in last year’s underrated Hanna. Fiennes has assembled himself an exciting cast (Kristin Scott Thomas will play Dickens’ wife) and I’m excited to see the film come together. Production is set to start in April.

Ralph Fiennes directorial debut, Coriolanus, was a remarkably confident and well-made first feature, and absolutely worth your time despite the rushed ending sending the film out on a sour note.  Screen Daily reports that he’ll follow it up with the period drama The Invisible Woman, which will reunite him with his The English Patient co-star Kristin Scott Thomas.  The film centers on the secret love affair between Charles Dickens (Fiennes) and his mistress Nelly Ternan (Like Crazy‘s Felicity Jones).  Thomas will play Ternan’s mother.  Abi Morgan (Shame) wrote the screenplay, and shooting is set to begin in the UK on April 23rd.

The plot seems a little bland (I’m not sure why Dickens having a mistress is a big deal), but Fiennes earned my trust with Coriolanus, and Invisible Woman has a solid supporting cast.  As for Fiennes’ non-directing projects, he’s playing Magwitch in Mike Newell‘s adaptation of Dickens’ Great Expectations, and he has a highly-secretive role in the new James Bond movie, Skyfall.  Fiennes will be seen in theaters next month reprising his role as Hades in Wrath of the Titans.

The haunting thriller Let Me In is out this week on DVD/Blu-ray with a generous amount of bonus features, including deleted scenes, audio commentary with writer/director Matt Reeves, the much-talked-about visual effects piece “Car Crash Sequence Step-By-Step,” “From the Inside: A Look at the Making of Let Me In,” “The Art of Special Effects,” the greenband and redband trailers, a trailer gallery, and a poster and still gallery. It also includes an original comic book with an exclusive cover designed by award-winning comic book artist Sean Phillips.

Let Me In tells the coming of age story of a bullied young boy named Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who befriends his mysterious young neighbor Abby (Chloe Moretz), only to find out that she is a vampire that needs blood to live and that the man who seems to be her father (Richard Jenkins) goes out to drain local residents to feed her. In this exclusive phone interview with Collider, writer/director Matt Reeves talked about his process for choosing the special features and extras included on the DVD/Blu-ray, how much he loved the performances of his two lead actors, Chloe Moretz and Kodi Smit-McPhee, and his hope that the film will find a life that wasn’t reflected in the box office numbers when it was in theaters. At this year’s Comic-Con, I was able to sit down with writer-director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) for Let Me In.  Based on the best-selling Swedish novel Lat den Ratte Komma In (Let the Right One In) by John Ajvide Lindqvist, and the highly-acclaimed film of the same name by Tomas Alfredson, Reeves film has been the subject of a lot of online bashing since before filming began.  However, over the past few weeks, as footage and images have been released, you can see the tide turning online, with many now excited to see Reeves take on the material.  Also, it didn’t hurt that the panel for Let Me In at Comic-Con was loaded with some great footage.

Anyway, before the panel, I managed to get some time with Reeves.  We talked about the online buzz for his movie and how things have been changing, how much of the original movie is in his version, has he already deleted sequences for the DVD/Blu-ray, what has the test screening process been like, how did he get Michael Giacchino to do the score, what is it like for him to be at Comic-Con and what does he collect/geek out over, and a lot more.  If you’re interested Let Me In and why Reeves wanted to do a remake, you’ll love the interview.
