Wednesday evening’s TV ratings are in.  Here’s a rundown of the night’s original scripted programming:

• The season finale of ABC’s Modern Family garnered a 3.6 rating and 9.92 million viewers, down 3% from last week’s episode and down 12% from last year’s season finale.  Elsewhere on ABC, The Middle hit a 2.0 rating and 7.53 million viewers for a rise of 5% from last week and even with last year’s finale, and the season one finale of Nashville scored a 1.9 rating and 6.07 million viewers, up 12% from last week’s 1.7 rating.
• On CBS, the two-hour season finale of Criminal Minds notched a 2.7 rating and 10.8 million viewers, rising 4% from last week’s 2.6 rating but down a whopping 25% from last year’s season finale 3.6 rating.
• Finally, on NBC Law & Order: SVU’s season finale hit a 1.6 rating and 6.68 million viewers for a rise of 7% from last week’s episode and a drop of 20% from last year’s season finale, and the season one finale of Chicago Fire hit a 1.7 rating and 6.17 million viewers, which is down 15% from last week’s 2.0 rating.

Nominations for the 2013 Critics’ Choice Television Awards have been announced, and along with plenty of welcome surprises there are a couple of snubs that are likely to have people talking.  Here’s a brief rundown of some of the highlights:

• Best Drama Series nominees include Game of Thrones, Homeland, Breaking Bad, and FX’s excellent new series The Americans.  Conspicuously absent is Mad Men, which only scored one nomination overall for Elisabeth Moss as Lead Actress.
• Best Comedy Series nominees include Louie, New Girl, Parks and Recreation, and Veep, with Emmy favorite Modern Family failing to land a nomination along with last year’s winner Community.  Instead, ABC sitcom The Middle made the cut.
• Netflix’s House of Cards scored two nominations for Best Actor (Kevin Spacey) and a very deserved Best Supporting Actor nod for Corey Stoll.
• David Lynch landed a Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series nom for his excellent work in Louie, and Happy Endings alums Casey Wilson and Adam Pally were recognized in the supporting categories.
• The love it/loathe it HBO comedy Girls didn’t get a Best Comedy Series nod, but received acting nominations for Lena Dunham, Alex Karpovsky, and Patrick Wilson.
• FX’s American Horror Story and CBS’ The Big Bang Theory scored the most nominations with six each, topping all other programs.

• ABC comedy Modern Family notched a season low with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.84 million viewers, which is a drop of half a ratings point from last week’s 3.6 rating.
• CBS procedural CSI was up sharply from last week’s 1.9 rating, hitting a 2.2 rating and 9.73 million viewers.
• Finally, The CW’s Arrow was even with last week’s 0.9 rating and scored 2.56 million viewers.

• Also up was the freshman ABC drama series Nashville, which garnered a 1.8 rating and 6.01 million viewers for a rise of one tenth from last week’s 1.7 rating.

• Also up was ABC’s Nashville, which scored a 1.7 rating and 5.59 million viewers.  That’s up 13% from last week’s 1.5 rating.
• Over at The CW, Supernatural dipped 20% from last week’s 1.0 rating with a 0.8 rating and 1.98 million viewers.

• Over at CBS, CSI saw a rebound from last week’s series-low 1.9 rating, hitting a 2.3 rating and 10.54 million viewers.  That’s a rise of 21% from last week.

• Fresh off a season two pickup, The CW’s Arrow notched up to a 1.1 rating and 3.26 viewers versus last week’s 1.0 rating.
• Also up was a vignette-style Valentine’s Day episode of Modern Family, which scored a 3.8 rating and 10.03 million viewers.  That’s up a tad from last week’s season-low 3.7 rating.
• Speaking of lows, the ABC comedy The Middle garnered a 1.9 rating and 7.63 million viewers for a season low.  That’s down four tenths from last week’s 2.3 rating.

• ABC’s whip-smart comedy Suburgatory, on the other hand, saw a decent rise of 17% from last week’s 1.8 rating, garnering a 2.1 rating and 5.88 million viewers.
• Bringing things back down, though, was Nashville, which scored a 1.7 rating and 5.25 million viewers for a series low.  That’s down 11% from its last new episode’s 1.9 rating.

• Though it still managed to be the highest rated program of the night, Modern Family tied its season low with a 4.2 rating and 10.8 million viewers.  That’s an 11% drop from the 4.7 rating it notched with its last original episode.
• Also down was the veteran CBS procedural CSI, which hit a series low 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demo and 9.5 million viewers.  That’s down 15% from its last new episode’s 2.6 rating.
• It was bad news for new NBC series Chicago Fire as well, as the show earned a 1.4 rating and 4.8 million viewers for a drop of 26% from last week’s 1.9 rating.  That performance ties the show’s series low.

Wednesday night’s TV ratings are in, and it’s not pretty.  Here’s a brief look at the highlights:

• NBC’s comedy series Whitney kicked off its second season last night with a 1.4 rating and 4.23 million viewers for a drop of 13% from its season one finale rating of 1.6.  That matches the show’s series low performance and is even with Animal Practice’s Wednesday launch numbers, the now-cancelled series that Whitney replaced.
• It appears that last week’s high numbers for the NBC drama Chicago Fire were short-lived, as it was back to business as usual this week with a 1.6 rating and 5.7 million viewers.  That’s a drop of 27% from last week’s 2.2 rating.
• ABC’s drama Nashville also dropped despite the fact that it recently received a full season pick-up, as last night’s episode drew a 1.8 rating and 5.9 million viewers.  That’s down 10% from last week’s 2.0 rating.

Most every Wednesday night program was up versus last week’s Hurricane Sandy-impacted numbers.  Briefly:

• Comedy favorite Modern Family scored a major uptick, landing a 4.7 rating and 12.29 million viewers versus last week’s 4.2 rating in the 18-49 demo.
• New series Chicago Fire, which had been struggling week-to-week, hit a season high 2.3 rating and 7.09 million viewers against last week’s 1.6 rating.
• Arrow matched its season high, scoring a 1.3 rating and 3.7 million viewers.  That’s a rise from last week’s 1.0 rating.

TV ratings numbers are in for Wednesday night’s programming.  Here’s a brief look at the highlights:

• The second season premiere of FX’s horror anthology series American Horror Story: Asylum got off to an incredibly strong start, with a hefty 2.2 rating in the demo and 3.85 million total viewers, making it the most watched and highest rated episode of the series thus far.
• After a solid yet slightly soft debut, ABC’s much buzzed-about new drama series Nashville saw a pretty steep drop in viewers for episode 2.  The ep drew a 2.0 rating and 6.8 million viewers, down a hefty 28% from last week’s 2.8 rating.
• NBC’s new drama Chicago Fire was also down, though the drop was a bit more dramatic given the show’s low premiere numbers.  The second episode drew a 1.5 rating an 5.9 million viewers, down 21% from the premiere’s 1.9 rating.
• The CW’s new superhero series Arrow saw a solid hold from last week’s stellar premiere numbers, as this week’s episode hit a 1.3 rating and 3.5 million viewers.  That’s even with last week’s premiere.

A couple of high profile new shows made their television premieres on Wednesday night.  Here’s a brief rundown of the highlights:

• The CW’s new superhero series Arrow premiered strong (for The CW, that is) with a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4 million viewers.  That’s a very solid debut for the network, so it’ll be interesting to see how much of that audience holds next week.
• ABC’s high-profile debut Nashville got off to a solid yet slightly disappointing start.  Given the pilot’s rave reviews and overall buzzworthiness expectations may have been a tad too high, but the episode scored a 2.8 rating in the demo and 9 million viewers.
• Not breaking any records was the series premiere of NBC’s new drama series Chicago Fire.  The episode netted a 1.9 demo rating and 6.4 million viewers.
