BAMBI, FORREST GUMP, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, and More Added to National Film Registry

The Library of Congress has added 25 more films to the National Film Registry. Each year the library chooses films they deem are “culturally, historically, or aesthetically” significant to add to the registry. This year’s additions include Forrest Gump, Bambi (long overdue, I’d say), and The Silence of the Lambs, as well as the sci-fi classic The War of the Worlds (1953), Billy Wilder’s The Lost Weekend, and Charlie Chaplin’s first feature The Kid. In addition, the Library of Congress chose to add student works from Pixar Animation co-founder Ed Catmull and director Robert Rodriguez‘s El Mariachi. With Rooney Mara (Youth in Revolt) set to star as rebellious hacker Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo next week, we thought we’d take a look back at past female badasses in cinematic history. Noomi Rapace nailed the role in the original Swedish version, so Mara will have a lot to live up to. THE HANNIBAL LECTER ANTHOLOGY Blu-ray Review

Debuting twenty-three years ago with “Manhunter”, there have been five films chronicling the enigmatic and terrifying serial killer Hannibal Lecter.  Though many of us have seen the first three (which are included in this collection), they were previously unreleased on Blu-Ray format until this past month.  If you haven’t seen these films, you owe it yourself to see them at whatever cost, but the Blu-Ray versions don’t necessarily add anything spectacular to the series.  Though worth watching, this collection of films doesn’t differ much from the previously released versions, and I am still waiting for some sort of “Ultimate Collection.” Keep reading after the jump to see why.
