New Trailer: HBO’s BOARDWALK EMPIRE from Martin Scorsese and SOPRANOS Writer Terrence Winter

I love that HBO will center a series around Prohibition-era gangsters. I love that Martin Scrosese is directing television pilots.  I love that Steve Buscemi will anchor a weekly series.  I am ecstatic that the Fall 2010 series Boardwalk Empire will provide all three of these things at once, and this trailer only fans the flame.

Buscemi stars as Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, “the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City… equal parts politician and gangster.”  Terrence Winter (The Sopranos) serves as creator, while Scorsese is credited as producer alongside his pilot-directing gig.  Check out the trailer after the jump.

SOPRANOS Creator David Chase Forms a Band in the 1960s

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: March 8th, 2010 at 4:23 pm

david_chase_image.jpgEver since the screen cut to black on The Sopranos finale two-and-a-half years ago, it seems like creator David Chase has been hiding in that darkness.  Early last year, he poked his head out to let us know about two projects he’s working on.  For HBO, Chase plans to chronicle the history of the Hollywood with miniseries A Ribbon of Dreams.  A couple months earlier, Chase mentioned another project to EW, saying only “it is about rock ‘n’ roll.”  Otherwise, mum was the word.

Now via THR, we have a bit more information on that latter project.  It is a coming-of-age saga that follows the formative stages of a rock band in the 1960s.  Still not a lot to go on, but it’s good to know the man that brought us Tony Soprano will eventually return to storytelling.  Even better that he’s working in the realm of music, as The Sopranos had a frequently amazing soundtrack.  I’ll leave you with the final scene and its memorable use of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”, after the spoiler-filled jump.

Michael Stuhlbarg talks about Martin Scorsese’s HBO Show BOARDWALK EMPIRE

HBO makes great television. We all know that. Every year the cable channel produces series and mini-series that go on to win Emmys and create intense conversations about the latest episodes. And right now, the network is hard at work producing what’s sure to be a massive television event, “Boardwalk Empire”.

If you haven’t yet heard of the show, don’t panic. The network only shot the pilot a few months ago and the full series begins shooting next month. But the reason you should care is one name: Martin Scorsese. Yes, one of the greatest directors in Hollywood directed the pilot and he’s producing the show along with a few people that made “The Sopranos”. The show is a look at the origins of Atlantic City’s boardwalk and is based on the book “Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City” by Nelson Johnson. I recently got to speak to one of the stars of the show, Michael Stuhlbarg, and after the jump you can read what he had to say:
