In the espionage thriller The Debt , Rachel Singer is a Mossad agent in the 1960′s, who teams up with fellow agents Stephan (Marton Csokas) and David (Sam Worthington), to track down Nazi war criminal Dieter Vogel (Jesper Christensen), also known as the feared Surgeon of Birkenau. For that mission, she put herself at great risk and her heart on the line, not realizing that their actions would come back to haunt them over 30 years later.
At the film’s press day, actress Jessica Chastain talked about her four months of Krav Maga training for The Debt, how she studied Helen Mirren and worked with her on the backstory for the different ages of the character that they were playing, and just how uncomfortable the gynecological scenes were. She also talked about reuniting with Sam Worthington on Texas Killing Fields, what she loves about working with director Terrence Malick, her excitement over playing a character in a punk band in the Guillermo Del Toro-produced genre film Mama, and how she chooses projects based on the script and if it’s something she’s never done before. Sam Worthington is an actor with a career that is undoubtedly on the rise. The native Australian graduated from Sydney’s prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art and went on to star in a number of Australian television shows and films, before being handpicked by director James Cameron to star in the groundbreaking sci-fi 3-D epic Avatar, which has now earned more than $2 billion worldwide, making it the top-grossing film of all time.
Prior to the release of Avatar, Sam Worthington made a definite impression on American audiences when he starred opposite Christian Bale in the sci-fi action flick Terminator Salvation. After filming wrapped, he took off for England to play Perseus in a re-imagining of the epic adventure Clash of the Titans, opening on April 2nd.
During a press conference to promote and talk about his role in Clash of the Titans, Sam Worthington talked about updating the original to make it relatable now, the comparisons he saw in the characters to Star Wars and that heroism comes from how other people see you. He also said that he’ll be going into production on The Texas Killing Fields once he wraps the publicity tour for Clash, and that he’s spoken to James Cameron about ideas for Avatar 2, but that the film won’t go into production until the filmmaker finds a way to further challenge and top himself. Back in February when he was fresh off his Oscar-win, Danny Boyle told MTV he was considering a project called The Texas Killing Fields, which was in no way related to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre but does speak to people’s fear of the Lone Star State and their decision not to mess with it. The plot is mostly under wraps but it concerns two cops who discover that a recent murder in their jurisdiction is connected to the notorious “Killing Fields Murders.”
While Boyle ultimately decided not to do the film (he has since moved on to direct the survival tale 127 Hours), it has now moved into the hands of Ami Mann, daughter of Michael Mann (Heat), with Bradley Cooper and Sam Worthington attached to star. Click the jump for more details.
