Gillian Anderson Talks THE FALL, Her Attraction to the Characters, HANNIBAL, CRISIS, Her Desire for Another X-FILES Movie, and More

by     Posted 23 days ago

Featuring a truly terrific performance from Emmy award-winner Gillian Anderson, The Fall is a gripping, intelligent and highly addictive psychological thriller (I watched all five hours in one sitting because it’s so engrossing) that forensically examines the lives of two hunters, one of whom is a serial killer (played by Once Upon A Time star Jamie Dornan) that stalks his victims at random, and the other is a high-powered detective superintendent brought in to catch him.  It is a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game with twists and turns that unfold until the very end.

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Gillian Anderson talked about what led her to sign on to The Fall, her attraction to complex and complicated characters, how she views Stella Gibson, what she most enjoyed about playing the role, how refreshing and freeing it is to inhabit a woman who’s so blunt, keeping the cat-and-mouse game interesting throughout the season, and that they’re already discussing the direction for Season 2.  She also talked about her terrific work on Hannibal, her mid-season NBC drama series Crisis, which role in her career she’s most proud of, and how she feels like there needs to be one more The X-Files movie, to wrap up the story.  Check out what she had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

David Duchovny Talks PHANTOM, Avoiding Russian Accents, Working on a Real Submarine, and Ending CALIFORNICATION

Inspired by true events, Phantom is a Cold War era suspense thriller about a Soviet submarine captain, named Dmitri “Demi” Zubov (Ed Harris), forced to lead a covert mission that could start a nuclear war.  With replacement sailors filling in for many of his regular crew, the captain quickly learns that the real mission is to launch a missile strike against the Americans while making it appear to come from a Chinese vessel, triggering a nuclear showdown between the two superpowers and forcing the men aboard to make impossible choices that could end their lives.

While at the film’s press day, actor David Duchovny spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about what made him want to get involved with this project, the decision the director made to have his cast avoid using Russian accents, that the technical dialogue comes easy for him and has since his days on The X-Files, how challenging it was to work on a real submarine and do fight scenes without getting hurt, and how great it was to work with Ed Harris.  He also talked about how he would be surprised if Season 7 weren’t the last season of his Showtime series Californication, and that they’ve been finishing each season as it was going to be their last, for the last three years now.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

The indie comedy Goats, from director Christopher Neil and based on Mark Poirier’s best-selling novel, tells the story of Ellis (Graham Phillips), a 15-year-old looking to find his place among his eccentric family.  His mom (Vera Farmiga) is a New Age hippie that spends all of her time working on self-help rituals with her hustler boyfriend (Justin Kirk), while his dad (Ty Burrell) left home years ago and is more focused on his new wife (Keri Russell) and family.  And then, there’s Goat Man (David Duchovny), the goat-herding sage who has lived in their pool house since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of expanding one’s mind.

At the film’s press day, actor David Duchovny spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how he approached the role of Goat Man, what interested him about the unique character, how he came to the specific look, what it was like to experience a goat trek, the challenges of working with real goats, and the difference in playing one character over a long period of time, like he does on Californication, versus a finite time with film.  He also talked about his interest in doing a third The X-Files film, and where he thinks the second film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, went wrong.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Earlier today, I had the opportunity to sit down with David Duchovny at the members-only Soho House in West Hollywood to chat about his indie feature Goats.  In the comedy, he plays Goat Man, a goat-herding sage who has lived with Ellis (Graham Phillips) and his New Age hippie mother (Vera Farmiga) since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of expanding one’s mind.

While we will run the full interview tomorrow, we did want to share what Duchovny had to say about the possibility of a third The X-Files movie, especially after what writer/producer Frank Spotnitz told me about it a week ago.  Clearly up for it, he said that he doesn’t understand why Fox isn’t more enthusiastic to get it going, when it’s a homegrown action franchise that they own, and he talked about where he thinks the second film went wrong.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

The X-Files writer/producer Frank Spotnitz has created the compelling eight-episode international espionage series Hunted for Cinemax, to premiere on October 26th.  The story follows Sam Hunter (Melissa George), a skilled operative for Byzantium, a secretive private firm involved in global intelligence and espionage, that may have personally been responsible for orchestrating an attempt on her life, leaving her with no idea who to trust.

While at the TCA Press Tour, Collider spoke to Frank Spotnitz for this exclusive interview.  We will run what he had to say about that series closer to its premiere, but we did want to share what his comments about whether he still wants to do a third The X-Files movie, why it would be a cultural crime not to finish the series, how it would need to happen pretty soon, and what he’s most happy about when he looks back at his work on the series and movies.  He also talked about what it might take for a Millennium movie to happen.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

David Duchovny on CALIFORNICATION Season 4

Earlier today, we were at the press day for The Joneses (which we’ll have more on closer to the April 16th release date), starring Demi Moore and David Duchovny as a seemingly perfect family who moves into a suburban neighborhood and immediately impresses everyone they meet, but who, in reality, are really a fake family, commissioned by a marketing company to introduce new products around the world.

During the interview, Duchovny took some time to give an update on where his Californication character, Hank Moody, will be going in Season 4 of the popular Showtime series, which starts filming on April 19th for a possible September premiere. He also said that he really enjoys getting to work with new guest stars each season, and that the upcoming season promises some great ones. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

David Duchovny Still Wants to Believe in a 3rd X-FILES Movie

I think it’s terrific that David Duchovny is so excited to do another “X-Files” movie despite the quality and non-existent box office of 2008′s “The X-Files: I Want to Believe”.  I think it’s hilarious that when the show was still on the air, Duchovny couldn’t get away fast enough and had his ass abducted off the show.  But now, as he’s done before, Duchovny is cheerleading another “X-Files” movie.  Hit the jump to have the conspiracy go eat itself.

The truth is out there…on the web. And that truth is that a third outing for FBI agents Mulder and Scully may be in the pipe over at Fox. The news comes from Scully herself, Gillian Anderson, in a recent interview where she revealed that not only would she be up for playing the role she’s inhabited for over a decade in a new film, but that the project has some forward momentum and that the studio is eyeing a 2012 release date. To learn more about aliens, ghosts, and reboots, hit the jump.
