In the CW’s new supernatural drama The Secret Circle, from executive producer Kevin Williamson and paired with The Vampire Diaries starting on September 15^th, actor Thomas Dekker plays Adam Conant, a member of the Circle. All descended from powerful witches, the Circle is completed when Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson) returns to Chance Harbor, Washington, after the death of her mother. As strange and frightening things begin to happen, Cassie quickly realizes that the residents seem to know more about her than she does about herself.

During a recent interview to promote The Secret Circle, Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) talked about his affinity for genre work, how nice it is to finally play a character that has some powers of his own, what he enjoys about the show’s love triangle, the pranks he loves to pull on set, and how he’d love to see his character turn evil, for however brief an amount of time. CW’s newest supernatural series, The Secret Circle, had a fun-filled pilot screening Saturday night in Room 6BCF. Despite a line that wrapped out of the building and by some nether-region of the San Diego Convention Center, I was shuffled through the doors in time to sit down and immediately soak the screening in. I’ll be upfront now, though: CW shows usually aren’t my thing. However, by the amount of catcalls and swoons, I can see that they have clearly worked out a niche market and aren’t going to stop in the near future. Following the pilot screening, we were treated to an all-too-brief Q&A with the stars and crew. Hit the jump for my thoughts on the pilot and a recap of the panel.

We’ve already heard about the scripted series pick-ups on The CW, but today the network has released their full schedule and the official series synopses for all the brand new series. Below you can find details on the drama/thriller series Ringer which will mark Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to television, Vampire Diaries-companion The Secret Circle, medical drama Hart of Dixie, the Mario Lopez-hosted reality series H8R, another modeling reality show called Re-Modeled and a game show called The Frame.

With Sundance in full swing in Park City, I got to sit down with Juno Temple and Chris Zylka to talk about their work in Gregg Araki’s Kaboom (watch my interview with Araki here). Premiering January 21st in limited release and nationwide on VOD (Video on Demand), Kaboom is a ” thriller/comedy telling the story of Smith (Thomas Dekker), an ambisexual 18 year-old college freshman who stumbles upon a monstrous conspiracy in a seemingly idyllic seaside Southern California town.”  The film also stars Haley Bennett, Rozane Mesquida, James Duval, and Andy Fischer-Price.  If you’re a fan of Nowhere, The Doom Generation and Totally F*cked Up, you definitely want to check out Kaboom.

During the interview, Temple and Zylka talked about how they’d describe Kaboom to friends, how the film captures that first love energy, how they got involved in the film, the nudity, the differences from the script to what ended up on screen, their reaction to the very honest “lessons in giving head” scene, and what they have coming up.  For all you Spider-Man fans, Zylka plays Flash Thompson in the reboot.  Hit the jump to watch:

The trailer for Gregg Araki’s (Mysterious Skin) sci-fi/comedy Kaboom has landed online.  Starring Thomas Dekker (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Haley Bennett (The Haunting of Molly Hartley), Kaboom centers on Smith (Dekker), an 18-year-old college freshman who happens to come across a conspiracy in a picturesque Southern California community.  Considering I’ve yet to see the film, I can only go by what the trailer tells me.  With that in mind, this trailer is telling me to expect a sexier, more colorful, and more comedic Donnie Darko.  If Kaboom delivers on that tease, then it is definitely worth my time.

To check out the trailer for yourself, hit the jump.  While Kaboom made the rounds on festival circuits last year (it screened at both the Toronto International Film Festival and Cannes, to name a few), it will be making its U.S. debut at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.

Documentaries have undoubtedly grown closer in style to narrative features over the past 20 years.  Similarly, when documentarians Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini moved into the narrative world, they brought their old techniques with them.  That first feature, American Splendor, made a big splash, thanks to its fresh and complicated approach that broke standard filmmaking conventions and included material from mediums that varied from comic books and film to television.

Springer Berman filled us in recently on her latest film, The Extra Man, which continues its gradual, national release today in top 10 markets, with Chicago.  Hit the jump for the interview’s audio and transcript, along with info on her new HBO film Cinema Verite featuring Diane Lane, Tim Robbins, Thomas Dekker and James Gandolfini, where she stands on a big divide in the documentary world and a story she’s never told publicly about American Splendor’s late subject, Harvey Pekar.

After Zac Efron and Chace Crawford signed on for and then subsequently dropped out of the forthcoming remake of the dance flick Footloose, the nostalgia piece has been in need of a rhythmic star.  Paramount may have just found one in Thomas Dekker.  The 22-year-old Dekker has been building a name for himself with series stints on Heroes and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and recently starred in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.  Plus, good buzz surrounds his role in the Cannes film Kaboom, so Dekker has merited consideration for the lead role of Ren McCormack.

In the 1984 original, it was a young Kevin Bacon who played Ren, a “dance-happy outsider who shakes up a small town” [24 Frames].  Like his HSM star, director Kenny Ortega boarded then departed the remake over the last year, while Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) took over the reins.  Paramount just announced a casting call for Footloose with intent to shoot this summer, suggesting casting notices will soon be official.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of the original, plus my choice for the lead role.

One of the many films to premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival is Gregg Araki’s Kaboom.  Since no trailers or footage had been released prior to the festival, many were curious what kind of movie he had made.  Would it be serious like Mysterious Skin or was he returning to his earlier days and making another Doom Generation or Nowhere.

Well, after watching the NSFW clips, it’s pretty clear Kaboom is a return to his roots and it looks like only something Araki could come up with.  Hit the jump to check out the clips and I’ve also posted some snippets of a few reviews:

Last night was the world premiere of Warner Bros. and Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.  The premiere was held at the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood, and since it had been awhile, I decided to cover the red carpet.  Thankfully, most of the cast stopped by to talk, and after the jump you can watch my interview with Thomas Dekker.

As most of you know, opening this Friday is New Line/Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.  Over the past few months we’ve been covering the movie extensively with a set report, on set interviews with Jackie Earle Haley and producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, and a few weeks ago I spoke to Katie Cassidy / Thomas Dekker and Rooney Mara / Kyle Gallner at WonderCon.

Samuel Bayer has a long history directing music videos and commercials.  While his resume is way too long to list in this intro, some of his famous videos are Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, Blind Melon’s No Rain, almost all of Green Day’s American Idiot videos, and tons of others since 1991.  It’s really an impressive list.

Anyway, he finally made his first feature and it’s New Line’s/Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. The movie stars Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker and Kellan Lutz.

A few days ago I attended WonderCon (it’s like Comic-Con with less people) in San Francisco and got to interview Thomas Dekker and Katie Cassidy for A Nightmare on Elm Street.  In the film, Thomas Dekker plays Jesse and Katie Cassidy plays Kris.

During the interview they talked about what it was like filming in Chicago and tell some funny stories, working for director Samuel Bayer, have they seen the movie yet, and a lot more.  Unlike some red carpet interviews that are serious, this one is very loose and extremely relaxed.  Watch it after the jump:
