The hilarious new comedy Pitch Perfect, from director Jason Moore (Broadway’s Avenue Q) and screenwriter Kay Cannon (New Girl, 30 Rock), tells the story of Beca (Anna Kendrick), a young woman who dreams of being a music producer, but who instead finds herself at Barden University in an all-female a cappella singing group. With both new takes on old favorites and hits of right now, The Bellas fight to climb their way to the top of the cutthroat world of college music competitions. The film also stars Rebel Wilson, Skylar Astin, Adam Devine, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks.

At the film’s press junket, actress/producer Elizabeth Banks spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how much fun she had playing one of the a cappella competition commentators, how much improvisation she did with co-star John Michael Higgins, just how many outtakes they have, what made her see a movie in the book the film is based on, what she’s most proud of with the finished product, and the guidelines she and her husband use, when it comes to finding projects for their company, Brownstone Productions. She also talked about getting ready to return to the role of Effie Trinket for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the possibility of taking on the role of Tinkerbell for the feature film Tink, and recording a voice for the animated feature Lego: The Piece of Resistance. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

Opening this weekend is the action-comedy This Means War. Directed by McG, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy portray the world’s deadliest CIA operatives who are also inseparable partners and best friends…until they fall for the same woman (Reese Witherspoon). Rather than giving up and allowing one of the two to continue seeing Witherspoon, Hardy and Pine put their CIA gadgetry and know-how to work in order to derail each another’s relationship with the girl. For more on the film, here's six clips and Matt's review.

During the recent Los Angeles press junket, I was able to land an exclusive video interview with McG. We talked about making This Means War, the battle with the MPAA over rating and what they had to cut to get a PG-13, test screenings, deleted scenes, and what will be on the Blu-ray (it'll have a Bond-style title sequence). In addition, with McG attached to so many other projects, I got updates on his TV pilot Guilty (about a lawyer that's been disbarred), Spring Awakening, Dead Spy Running (a spy movie that Stephen Gaghan is writing and possibly directing), Face It (a romantic comedy), Monster Squad (he's not involved anymore), Medieval (the status is up in the air at Regency), Tink (will star Elizabeth Banks as Tinkerbell), I Am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President (they haven’t cracked the script yet), Puzzle Palace (a thriller like Die Hard about a boy who has to break in to 1 Police ...

Director McG has had quite the versatile career. He began by working in music videos before making his big screen debut with 2000’s Charlie’s Angels. The pic was a big success, and led McG down a career path that’s included dramas (We Are Marshall), television (pilots for Chuck and Fastlane), and a stab at the Terminator franchise with Terminator: Salvation. McG is now trying his hand at the romantic comedy genre with an action bent in this month’s This Means War starring Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Tom Hardy. Steve recently got the chance to speak with the director about the film, but McG also gave updates on pretty much every single upcoming project listed on his IMDb page.

The director talked about his adaptation of the Broadway musical Spring Awakening (his passion project), Dead Spy Running with Stephen Gaghan, the Tinkerbell update Tink, his Die Hard-esque project Puzzle Palace, The Girl Who Conned the Ivy League starring Amanda Seyfried, and more. He also informed Steve that his feature version of Ouija doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon.. Hit the jump to see what he had to say about his upcoming slate.

McG’s passion project is an adaptation of Spring Awakening. He’s planning on taking a stylistic approach to the film in the vein of Baz Luhrmann:
“It’s my version of Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story. I’m going to do it with a Baz Luhrmann take on artistic privilege and the manner in which it looks, because it’s 19th century Germany, ...

Vampires and werewolves are so two years ago. While the shirtless twentysomethings monstrous creatures are still a prevalent trend at the moment, Hollywood seems to be shifting to its next obsession: fairy tales. We’ve got at least three Snow White movies in development, an action take on Hansel and Gretel, two Cinderella updates, two Pinnochio/Geppeto “revamps”, etc. Among the hoard of these revitalized classics is a live-action take on Tinkerbell. Elizabeth Banks is set to star in Disney’s Tink, and she recently revaled a few story details on the direction their film would take, comparing it to an immensely popular Will Ferrell flick. Hit the jump to see what she had to say.

Speaking with Movie Hole, Banks likened Tink to another recent, incredibly popular fantastical pic:
“It’s a live action Tinkerbell movie sort of in the vein of Elf in which I would play Tinkerbell. Tinkerbell gets thrown out of Never Never Land, and it’s about where she goes and who she meets and the adventures she has….Tinkerbell is one of the greatest characters because she’s mischievous and snarky and fun and sexy and jealous and vengeful.”
Now this is a take I can get behind. It sounds like Disney’s Enchanted and Elf had a baby and named it Tink. I found Enchanted to be endlessly charming, and I’m a big fan of Banks. She’s got the charisma to carry a movie like this, so she seems the perfect fit for the lead. Is it too much to hope for a Tinkerbell ...

Following the success of their last live-action princess movie, Enchanted, Disney has begun work on Tink, a non-animated film based around Peter Pan’s tiny sidekick. Elizabeth Banks is attached to play the pixie. Banks also helped to develop the movie along with Max Handelman who helps run the actress’s production company. The project has followed development exec. Matt Smith from Wonderland Productions to its current home at Offspring.

The script is being co-written by Elizabeth Wright Shapiro and the mono-named McG. McG is a terrible director, but maybe with his role limited to co-writer/producer, his damage will be minimized. According to Variety, the concept for the film is too “play with the mischievous nature of the Tinkerbell character,” which sounds to me like there will be a fair amount of self-parody, much like Enchanted.

In addition to taking on the title role on Tink, Banks can also be seen in The Details with Tobey Macguire, The Next Three Days with Russell Crowe, and will continue to appear on 30 Rock.
