We’ve been provided with six clips from the upcoming action-comedy This Means War to share with our readers. Directed by McG, the film stars Chris Pine and Tom Hardy as two CIA operatives who realize they’re dating the same girl (Reese Witherspoon). Rather than giving up and allowing one of the two to continue seeing Witherspoon, Hardy and Pine put their CIA gadgetry and know-how to work in order to derail each another’s relationship with the girl.

Hit the jump to check out the clips and look for interviews with the cast and McG soon. This Means War opens February 14th.

With news on The Dark Knight Rises relatively slow at the moment, we’ve scoured the net to see what Batman fans and related entities are up to. Recently we brought you images of some pretty realistic toys for The Dark Knight Rises. Now we have some hi-res shots of those toys for you to check out. Though for some people, that’s not enough. Some people have to make their own figures . And some go a step further and craft their own credit sequence to the movie itself. Bat-fan Dogan Can Gundogdu has crafted a meticulous opening sequence for The Dark Knight Rises that gives us a taste of what the film would look like if David Fincher was the director. Hit the jump to check out the toys and the credits.

Fox Moves THIS MEANS WAR Starring Chris Pine and Tom Hardy Up to Valentine’s Day

If action-packed love triangles are your thing, Fox may have just switched up your Valentine’s Day plans. The studio announced today that they’re moving up the release of McG’s action-comedy This Means War. The film stars Chris Pine and Tom Hardy as two CIA operatives who find out they’re dating the same woman (Reese Witherspoon). They then proceed to utilize their super secret CIA skills (explosions and dart guns) to battle for Witherspoon’s affection. The trailer looked pretty ridiculous, but I’m still holding out hope that the full film delivers. The cast is enticing and the premise could be a lot of fun if executed right, so we’ll see if McG has a winner. The film’s biggest Valentine’s Day competition is The Vow starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams, which opens on February 10th. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and bet that most guys will be partial to the one with explosions.

Steve here. The other day we posted a story concerning the audio mix on the IMAX prologue of The Dark Knight Rises.  After speaking with Warner Bros. and IMAX, it appears our story was wrong and I’ve taken down the article as a result of my conversations.  While I could have just deleted the article, I feel it’s important to own up to your mistakes rather than just forget about them.  I’m sorry for any confusion.

New Scene Description for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The latest trailer for The Dark Knight Rises got fans all in a tizzy, but it still didn’t provide many details on the plot.  We know the movie takes place seven years after The Dark Knight, Batman (Christian Bale) and Gordon (Gary Oldman) have become irrelevant in a peaceful Gotham, but now a new villain, Bane (Tom Hardy), threatens the safety of the city.  Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) factors in there somewhere.

So can we get at least get a brief scene description?  Some morsel to tide us over until Bane possibly destroys another sports team?  Well you can find it after the jump but be warned: it’s a big spoiler.  Less spoilery: a few new details regarding Catwoman’s costume.  Hit the jump to check out the fresh info.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

Christopher Nolan Will Not Rework Bane’s Incomprehensible Voice in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 20th, 2011 at 10:48 am

Tom Hardy Bane THE DARK KNIGHT RISES image slice

Yesterday, Batman fans were falling over themselves to praise the new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises.  There was plenty to like, but there was some agreement that the weakest aspect was trying to make out what Bane (Tom Hardy) was saying.  The same complaint was lodged against the six-minute prologue, but it didn’t seem like it would be a big deal to fix the problem.  Presumably, Christopher Nolan would hear the outcry, rework the ADR for Bane’s voice, and everyone would be happy.  Unfortunately, THR is reporting that Nolan is pretty okay with the current sound mix.  Sources at Warner Bros. say that the studio would like for Nolan to clarify the villain’s dialogue, but Nolan is using his independence “to alter the sound slightly, not to rework it completely.”  Nolan voiced a similar opinion following the premiere of the six-minute prologue when he told THR “that it was OK for a moviegoer not to understand what was said at times, as long as the overall idea was conveyed.”

It may be okay, but it’s also irritating and unintentionally comic.  Hit the jump for more.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

New Trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises has gone online.  The trailer is full of ominous warning.  Both Batman and Gordon brought peace to Gotham, but it looks like that has only served to massive destruction and Catwoman warnings.  There’s plenty to like in the trailer: the set design, the tone, the chanting, and how the frame is packed with action.  But there’s one shot that had me cracking up and it’s the destruction of the football field.  I watch that and all I can think is, “Bane just seriously fucked over my fantasy football team.”

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael CaineThe Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Viral Campaign Continues with Bane T-Shirt and Cylinder Map [UPDATED]

As we continue towards the release of The Dark Knight Rises, the film’s viral campaign soldiers onward.  After letting fans know where they could go to see the six-minute prologue (answer: anywhere but Georgia), various websites have received a cylinder with a map on it with a Bane t-shirt inside the cylinder.  When I first saw the t-shirt, I cracked up.  Apparently, Bane’s goals are to take over Gotham, bring down Batman, and make some money from CafePress on the side.  The map of Gotham City is more interesting.  It contains five “strike zones”, but this isn’t a real-world Alternate Reality Game hunt since—and I hate to be the one to tell you this—Gotham City is fictional.

Hit the jump to check out the shirt and the cylinder map.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.  The six-minute prologue will be attached to some IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol tomorrow.

UPDATE: We’ve been sent the t-shirt and map. We’ve added 17 high resolution photos.

Christopher Nolan Talks THE DARK KNIGHT RISES; Reveals Why They Chose Bane as Villain

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: December 12th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

The Dark Knight Rises marketing campaign has kicked into high gear. Last week a group of journalists (including Steve) got a peek at the six-minute IMAX prologue from the film, which you can read about spoiler-free here. Then a swell new teaser poster featuring Bane and a chilling tagline was released. Now an extensive interview with director Christopher Nolan has hit the web.

The director talks about the emotional final days on set (given that this is the final film in his trilogy), the ambition of shooting a great deal of the film in IMAX, how he and David S. Goyer chose Bane as the film’s villain, and he also explained his reasoning behind a certain plot point of the pic (Nolan says this plot point isn’t a spoiler since it’s the jumping off point of the film, but if you’d rather steer clear then skip the final two paragraphs of the article). Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

New Bane Teaser Poster for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

With all of the momentum that Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises has been gaining around these parts the past few days, it’s only fitting that Warner Bros. would continue to fuel the fire by sending over a new Bane teaser poster from the pic. Given that the film is still seven months away from release, I would imagine we’ll be seeing plenty more teaser one-sheets pop-up (ala The Dark Knight). In the meantime, this new sheet in addition to the original teaser poster from the film should be enough to tide me over.

Check out the new poster after the jump. The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, and Cillian Murphy. The film hits theaters on July 20th, 2012. Also, in case you missed them, be sure to check out our spoiler-free recap of the film’s six-minute IMAX prologue and the film’s initial viral marketing campaign.

TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY Review

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 9th, 2011 at 5:06 am

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a crackling, intense, complex, old-fashioned spy-thriller…but you need to wait over an hour to get there.  Director Tomas Alfredson does a fantastic job of painting a rich 1970s setting that swings between London, France, Istanbul, and Budapest, but we have trouble getting our bearings as we jump across timelines and struggle to understand the wide cast of characters.  Terrific performances begin to peek out and try to surface but are smothered in an overdone attempt to obfuscate rather than intrigue.  Alfredson wants to put us inside the web of confusion of trying to uncover the truth, but he strings us along for too long.  At some point, the spy game must begin.

New Featurette for TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 1st, 2011 at 9:58 am

Focus Features has released a new featurette for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.  It’s mostly your standard EPK fluff where everyone talks about the greatness of the material and each other.  However, it also provides some background on the setting, and Tinker Tailor is a movie where the more you understand the world, the better off you’ll be.  The film throws a heap of characters and jargon at you and then jumps around timelines just to make the puzzle even more difficult to solve.  It certainly deepens the mystery, but it’s not a good sign when I’m handed a pamphlet (click here to view the interactive version online) with a list explaining code names and terms.  (I also spent the whole movie thinking “Karla” was a nickname for the Russians, but after the movie I found out it was a code name for the Soviet intelligence chief).  The featurette also attempts to build awards buzz for Gary Oldman, but we’ll see if that pans out.

Hit the jump to check out the featurette.  The film also stars Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones, David Dencik, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Stephen Graham, Kathy Burke, and Ciarán HindsTinker Tailor Soldier Spy opens December 9th.
