The first clip and TV spot for director Len Wiseman’s remake of Total Recall have landed online.  The clip should be familiar to fans of the 1990 Total Recall starring Arnold Scharzenegger, as it features Colin Farrell’s character coming home to his “wife” played by Kate Beckinsale after some unknown assailants tried to capture him.  A fight ensues and, needless to say, Beckinsale’s iteration of Lori appears to be much more lethal (and bendy) than Sharon Stone’s.  We’ve also got the first TV spot for the film, which does a nice job of setting up the plot for those unfamiliar with the material.  Though I’m still unsure about the pic storywise, the visuals on display in the clip and TV spot promise some intense sci-fi action as well as lens flares that would make J.J. Abrams proud.

Hit the jump to check out the clip, TV spot, and a new image.  The film also stars Jessica Biel, John Cho, Bill Nighy, and Bryan CranstonTotal Recall opens on August 3rd.

The Cannes Film Festival is about to get underway, and studios are rolling out their promotional material to make sure that those attending screenings of the festival’s films don’t forget about the studio releases that are still to come later this year.  Our correspondent Magdalena (who you can follow on twitter) walked around the area of the festival earlier today and snapped some photos of the posters and billboards that are on display.  In addition to a really cool banner for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, she also brought us our first look at the Tom Cruise thriller One Shot, based on the popular Jack Reacher character book series from author Lee Child.  Moreover, there’s a pretty great set-up for the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator outside one of the Carlton hotel.

Hit the jump to check out posters and billboards for The Amazing Spider-Man, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and more.

New Images from TOTAL RECALL Starring Colin Farrell and Jessica Biel

A few new images from Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman’s remake of Total Recall have gone online.  I’m still a bit split on my opinion of this pic.  I think the sci-fi world that Wiseman has built looks pretty cool, and I’m a big fan of Colin Farrell and Bryan Cranston as actors so their involvement is promising.  However, the trailer didn’t exactly win me over.  I understand that it’s tough to sell a movie in two minutes and there’s a lot of fun to be had in Philip K. Dick’s source material, so hopefully Wiseman will deliver a truly trippy sci-fi pic once we see the full film.  These new images definitely promise that this Total Recall won’t be lacking in the action or gunplay departments, and I’m intrigued to see Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale’s takes on Melina and Lori, respectively.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Bill Nighy, John Cho, and Ethan HawkeTotal Recall opens on August 3rd.

Concept Art for David Croneneberg’s Unsuccessful Attempt to Make TOTAL RECALL

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 3rd, 2012 at 9:35 am

Before Paul Verhoeven cranked out Total Recall in 1990, producer Dino De Laurentiis approached David Cronenberg to direct the feature.  The project never came to fruition because Cronenberg’s vision never coincided with De Laurentiis’.  The two parted ways, Cronenberg went on to make The Fly, and Verhoeven made a movie where a woman has three boobs.  Wins all around.

But the question of “What If?” is always fascinating, and we’ve never had a chance to see what Cronenberg was planning until now.  Artist Ron Miller and his wife Judith Miller worked at De Laurentiis’ studio outside Rome, and the duo produced concept art and sculptures under the direction of production designer Pierluigi Basile (1982′s Conan the Barbarian).  Ron Miller has now released some of the designs he and his wife created along with some details on how Cronenberg planned to adapt the source material, Philip K. Dick‘s short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale”.  Hit the jump for more.

When Sony took the stage at CinemaCon 2012 yesterday afternoon in Las Vegas, they had a short one hour window to show off their various upcoming movies.  As we sat in the darkened theater waiting for the presentation to begin, we debated how could they have the stars and filmmakers talk about their movies and also show off tons of footage.  But rather than follow the typical studio roadmap, Sony decided to just show a non-stop sizzle reel sans movie stars that included the world premiere of Skyfall footage (a teaser trailer) and tons of new footage from all their 2012 films included The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall, Looper, Resident Evil: Retribution, Hope Springs, Premium Rush, Hotel Transylvania, Sparkle, That’s My Boy, and Men in Black 3.  More after the jump.

TOP 5: THE AVENGERS Set Visit, TOTAL RECALL Trailer, AMERICAN REUNION Interviews, TED Trailer and Images, New PROMETHEUS Images

collider-top-5-slice

I feel compelled this week to use the Top 5 opening paragraph to ask our readers a moderately sized favor: if you have any interest whatsoever in the American horror genre and its future, please do your best to find a way to catch The Cabin in the Woods in theaters when it officially opens next weekend. I’m not asking this as a way of manufacturing some hyperbolic scenario in which the success or failure of said film will literally make or break the genre as we know it. Rather, I’m hoping to use it as a reminder that opening weekend box office dollars are one of the best ways that a moviegoer can have his/her voice heard by the film industry’s powers that be. If you’re tired of remakes of remakes and reboots of those remakes, then do your best to financially support something that isn’t afraid to turn genre conventions on their respective heads. Now, all favors aside…

Waiting on the other side of the Top 5 jump this week is a recap of our visit to the set of The Avengers, the first Total Recall trailer, video interviews with the cast of American Reunion, the first trailer/images from Seth MacFarlane‘s Ted, and a batch of new images from Prometheus. You know the drill, a brief recap and link to each of the above awaits…

Watch the TOTAL RECALL Trailer with Commentary from Director Len Wiseman

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 4th, 2012 at 2:26 pm

While the new trend of releasing trailers for trailers is incredibly annoying and wholly pointless, commentary on a trailer by the film’s director is actually a quite interesting tool that many would find insightful.  Len Wiseman has done just that for the newly released trailer for his Total Recall remake.  He goes through the trailer shot-by-shot, adding both character and technical bits along the way.  I found it exceptionally fascinating that the “one-shot” action sequence that acts as the cornerstone moment in the trailer was actually done 100% practical.  Computer-controlled camera rigs moved at 35mph to capture the action sequence, giving us the “fly-by” feeling that shows us all the angles of the action in one shot.

Paul Verhoeven’s original take on Total Recall was a one-of-a-kind goofy sci-fi film that I highly doubt could be made today.  As such, I’m eager to see Wiseman’s straightforward iteration of the material. Hit the jump to watch the trailer with director commentary.  The film stars Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale and Bryan CranstonTotal Recall opens on August 3rd.

Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale Talk TOTAL RECALL Characters Plus Behind-the-Scenes Footage in this Featurette

The first trailer for Len Wiseman’s (Underworld) reboot of Total Recall dropped earlier this week, but now we have a look at some behind-the-scenes action as well as a bit of character information from the stars themselves. In this featurette, Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale talk about their respective characters as well as their experience during the shoot. Total Recall follows Douglas Quaid (Farrell) who uses the company, Rekall, to implant memories of life as a secret agent into his otherwise dull existence. The plan apparently backfires as his beautiful wife (Beckinsale) then tries to kill Quaid, who then teams up with a (beautiful) rebel fighter (Biel). Total Recall, also starring Billy Nighy, Bryan Cranston and John Cho opens August 3rd. Hit the jump to see the featurette.

First Trailer for TOTAL RECALL Starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel

As promised, the first trailer for the Total Recall remake premiered this afternoon during the Celtics-Heat game and promptly found its way online.  The clip gets across the basic premise.  Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell) turns to benevolent company Rekall to turn his dreams of being a super spy into real memories: “But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man.”  The real emphasis is on the action, and until seeing this trailer, I didn’t understand just how big a blockbuster Total Recall wants to be.  As a devoted fan of trippy sci-fi, here’s hoping director Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) pulled it off.

Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, Bill Nighy, and a platinum blonde John Cho also star.  Total Recall opens on August 3.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

Motion Poster for TOTAL RECALL Starring Colin Farrell [UPDATED]

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 28th, 2012 at 11:26 am

Sony Pictures has released a motion poster for Len Wiseman‘s remake of Total Recall.  The poster (which is this banner but in mooootiiiioooonnnn) comes in advance of the teaser trailer’s debut on Sunday (watch the teaser for the teaser here).  The poster also confirms what we’ve long suspected: Colin Farrell is made of giant pixels.  He’s basically S1m0ne.  Be on the look out for the handsome and charming Colin Farrell app on the iTunes market (sorry, Android users; we’ll have to wait a long time to get it, just like with every other popular app).

Hit the jump to check out the poster (don’t worry about adjusting your speakers; there’s no sound).  The film also stars Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, John Cho, Ethan Hawke, and Bryan CranstonTotal Recall opens August 3rd. [Update: We've added the non-motion poster]

First Poster Banner for TOTAL RECALL Featuring Dissolving Colin Farrell

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: March 27th, 2012 at 2:44 pm

total-recall-poster-slice

We brought you the teaser for the teaser trailer for Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake earlier today, and now the first poster banner has gone online. The official first trailer hits this Sunday, but it’s clear from the teaser teaser and this poster that Wiseman has crafted a fairly different take on Total Recall than Paul Verhoeven’s adaptation. The futuristic city design on this poster is actually pretty cool, and Colin Farrell‘s character definitely has a commanding presence even if little pieces of him are softly floating away. If this dissolving pixel effect is implying that Farrell also stars as Shatterbeast in Snow White and the Huntsman, this summer just got 1000% cooler.

Hit the jump to check out the poster, and be sure to come back to the site on Sunday to watch the full trailer. Total Recall opens on August 3rd.

Teaser for the Teaser Trailer for TOTAL RECALL

A 45-second teaser trailer for the Total Recall teaser trailer has gone online.  I was hoping we could get a 15-second teaser for the 45-second teaser, and maybe even a 5-second teaser for the 15-second teaser, but maybe one day that highly possible dream will become a reality.  However, this teaser-teaser does provide the first footage from Len Wiseman‘s remake of Paul Verhoeven‘s 1990 sci-fi film.  As you can see, the movie is jam-packed with cars from Demolition Man and Cerberus troops from Mass Effect.  There are also explosions.

Hit the jump to check out the teaser for the teaser trailer along with the official synopsis.  The movie stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, John Cho, Ethan Hawke, and Bryan Cranston.  The full trailer premieres on April 1st on ABC during the Celtics-Heat game.  An extended trailer will then premiere on Apple.  Total Recall opens August 3rd.

Since most Collider readers won’t have the opportunity to attend this years WonderCon in Anaheim, California, I decided to do the next best thing: take a ton of pictures from the convention floor.   While WonderCon is still a small convention when compared to its sibling Comic-Con, I love being able to walk the floor with ease and I also cherish the abundance of indie dealers that haven’t (yet) been pushed out by Hollywood and the huge corporations.  However, if you like getting all the free swag that’s in abundance in San Diego every summer, WonderCon is not for you.  But if you love geek culture and live near Disneyland, I definitely suggest attending tomorrow or Sunday.

Hit the jump for all the images including posters for Total Recall, The Amazing Spider-Man, Game of Thrones, Resident Evil 5, an original King Kong poster that’s being sold for ten thousand dollars, replica costumes from Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek and The Avengers, replicas lightsabers, Before Watchmen stuff, and a ton of random cool stuff.

Len Wiseman Talks UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING, More Sequels, TOTAL RECALL, and Future Projects; Says RECALL Director’s Cut Is Two Hours Long

by Christina Radish    Posted: January 21st, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Taking the franchise’s action and mayhem to a new level, Underworld: Awakening is the fourth and most spectacular installment yet. With the film opening this weekend, creator/producer Len Wiseman graciously took some time away from finishing up his director’s cut of Total Recall (due out in theaters on August 3rd) to chat with Collider about both films and possible upcoming projects.

During the nearly 30-minute exclusive conversation, Wiseman talked about the risk of stepping outside the box with the story for this Underworld film, the he was so involved with the production that he watched dailies online every day and gave notes throughout the entire process, his feelings about test screenings, and that there’s no immediate plan for a fifth installment but he’s always open to it. He also said he believes there will be a Total Recall trailer available in March, that his approximately two-hour director’s cut is just about ready for the studio to see, and that he needs very few insert shots. As far as what’s next on his plate, he said that he’s writing a script that is a good mix of thriller and action with a supernatural quality to it. Check out what he had to say about that, and so much more, after the jump:
