In the new Toy Story short Small Fry, playing in theaters with The Muppets, Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) is left behind at a fast food restaurant when a kids’ meal toy version takes his place. While the three-inch-tall Buzz impersonator incessantly annoys Woody (Tom Hanks) and all of the other toys, the real Buzz is trapped at a support group for discarded toys, run by narcissistic group leader, Neptuna (Jane Lynch). As Woody and the gang plan to rescue their friend, Buzz attempts his own escape.
At the press day for The Muppets, Small Fry director Angus MacLane talked about his work at Pixar Animation Studios, how the story was a combination of ideas that started with his psychologists mother and sister and his love of fast food toys, what it was like to get the voice cast together for this, that there were various kids’ meal toys that didn’t make the final cut, that there will be versions of some of the toys available for sale, and how he hopes to direct full-length features, at some point. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Last week we showed you the first images from the new Toy Story short film, Toy: Story: Small Fry. The movie focuses on Buzz Lightyear getting left at a fast food restaurant and requiring the help of Happy Meal-like toys in order to get back home and stop a diminutive Buzz imposter. In the clip, we see Buzz trying to escape but landing right in the middle of a support group for discarded Fun Meal toys (you’ll briefly hear Jane Lynch as the group’s narcissistic leader, Neptuna).

The first image from the new Toy Story short, Small Fry, has popped up online. We reported in August that short film would have Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) getting left behind at a fast-food restaurant and trying to find his way back home with the help of less popular, Happy Meal-like toys. It turns out there’s a bit more to it because one of the Happy Meal-toys kidnaps Buzz and tries to take over his play-filled existence. Jane Lynch (Glee) will make her Pixar debut as the Happy Meal toys’ narcissistic support-group leader Neptuna.
Hit the jump to check out the full image and adorably tiny Lightyear feet. The seven-minute short will be attached to The Muppets, which opens November 23rd. Toy Story: Small Fry also features the voices of Tom Hanks, John Ratzenberger, and Joan Cusack. [We have added a new image, and updated the story with a hi-res version of the previously-released image]

In February, we reported that Disney and Pixar would be attaching a new Toy Story short to The Muppets. At this weekend’s D23 Expo, the film’s director, Angus MacLane (“BURN-E”), announced that the short will be titled “Small Fry” and like “Toy Story: Hawaiian Vacation”, the whole gang will be back. According to The Pixar Times, “attendees were treated to the short but substantial clip, which gave away a few plot points. Looks like Buzz Lightyear is left behind at a fast-food restaurant and must find his way back home. In doing so he encounters some less popular, happy meal-like toys. One of those toys, a Mermaid of sorts, will be voiced by Glee‘s Jane Lynch.”
Since I skipped Cars 2, I haven’t seen “Hawaiian Vacation”, but it’s tough to go wrong with the Toy Story crew, this premise sounds fun, and “BURN-E” is a quality short. You can check out “Toy Story: Small Fry” when The Muppets opens on November 23rd.

With the short set to debut in front of Cars 2 this weekend, Pixar has released a new still from Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation. The six-minute short sees Woody, Buzz, and co. create a Hawaiian getaway for Barbie and Ken in Bonnie’s Midwestern bedroom after Ken royally screws up the travel arrangements for their real trip to Hawaii. Hit the jump to check out the new image. Click here to watch a 30-second clip from the short.

Amazon’s Gold Box Deal of the Day is Pixar’s Toy Story Trilogy (10-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) for $44.99 (which is 55%off). Remember, if you spend over $25 dollars you get free shipping. Like all Gold Box deals, it’s only good for one day. Hit the jump for a listing of the special features.

Pixar has released a 30-second sneak peek of their upcoming animated short Toy Story Hawaiian Vacation. The premise of the six-minute short is that Barbie and Ken are planning to go to Hawaii, but Ken messes up the plans and has to re-create a Hawaiian vacation experience inside Bonnie’s bedroom.
Hit the jump to check out 1/12th of Toy Story Hawaiian Vacation. The short will be attached to Cars 2, which opens in 3D on June 24th.

The first images from the first Toy Story short, Toy Story Hawaiian Vacation, appear in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. The new short will center on the toys play-acting a trip to Hawaii. Director Gary Rydstrom (who previously directed the Pixar short Lifted) said that even toys need a break from playing all the time and that Woody will function as the group’s “Captain Stubing” (the kids dig The Love Boat references).
Hit the jump to check out the images. Toy Story Hawaiian Vacation will play in front of Cars 2, which opens in 3D on June 24th. A second Toy Story short is slated to play in front of The Muppets on November 23rd.
Update: Disney has sent over high-resolution images.

While it looks like we may be done with Toy Story feature films (at least for a while), the franchise is living on in the form of pre-feature shorts. We reported last December that Cars 2 would have a Toy Story short that sees Barbie and Ken going on a Hawaiian vacation. But now it looks like there will be a second Toy Story short set for this year and it will be attached to a Disney non-Pixar flick. Buried in a Variety story about Disney’s franchise plans is word that a new Toy Story short will play in front of The Muppets, which is due out November 23rd. Unfortunately, there are no further details about the short.
It’s interesting to see Pixar take a larger role in Disney’s franchise plans to the point where they’ll have one of their shorts in front of a movie they didn’t make and isn’t even animated. However, everyone loves Toy Story, so I don’t think anyone will be complaining.

After three hugely successful films spanning 15 years, what’s left for the CGI heroes of Toy Story to do? Go tropical of course.
We recently reported that the characters of Toy Story 3 would be returning to theaters in a short attached to Pixar’s upcoming Cars 2. Details of a Hawaiian honeymoon-themed Toy Story short have leaked in the form of a summary of a yet-to-be-released children’s book entitled Play-cation. Published in a joint effort of Random House and Disney, Play-cation tells the story of Barbie and Ken’s honeymoon immediately following the events of Toy Story 3. Full details after the jump:

Pixar Animation Studios classics like Toy Story, Up, Wall-E, Ratatouille, and Cars will soon be commemorated with their own unique stamp designs in 2011. Citing Pixar’s “exciting, contemporary characters and strong themes involving family and friends,” the United States Postal Service will begin circulating the “Send a Hello” stamps on August 19th, 2011.

While the Toy Story saga may have ended this year with the wonderfully perfect concluding chapter Toy Story 3, it looks like that may not be the last time we see the Toy Story gang in action. The short films that precede Disney/Pixar films usually garner nearly as much anticipation and excitement as the films themselves (and rightfully so), and it looks like the short that will play before next summer’s Cars 2 will be a Toy Story one. Disney animator Floyd Norman recently took to Twitter to give some details on the short, saying:
“Ken and Barbie want to go to Hawaii. I don’t know what it’s gonna be attached to. Fun stuff, however.”
Combine that with Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich confirming via his Twitter that a Toy Story short would, in fact, be attached to Cars 2, and it looks like we’ll be getting more of Ken and Barbie next summer (thanks to Stitch Kingdom for putting two and two together). While it’s no Woody and Buzz, Barbie and Ken were one of the highlights of the concluding film, and basically anything Toy Story related is fine by me. Watch the trailer for Cars 2 here, and check out the full flick when it hits theaters on June 24, 2011.

If you’re a fan of mash up trailers, you’re going to want to check out WONKA: Legacy. That’s because ChiefBrodyRules on YouTube has cut together a trailer that features the visuals of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the audio of TRON: Legacy Trailer 3.
While some mash up trailers start strong and then sputter out, I think this one is solid throughout. I also like the way he brought in Johnny Depp towards the end as Klu. Hit the jump to check it out. I’ve also posted a bonus mash up of Toy Story and Fight Club.

June’s heartwarming and immensely successful Toy Story 3 wrapped up what must be considered the greatest animated trilogy of all time. For some, you could even omit the “animated” qualifier.
On November 2nd, you can own the memories on home video. Disney has assembled a ten-disc box set for the Toy Story trilogy on Blu-ray and DVD, sure to feature an endless supply of extras. Check out the wagon-themed box art after the jump.

Last weekend, I had the incredible privilege of going to Pixar Animation Studios for the Toy Story 3 press day. The experience was so fantastic that I can’t even believe I wrote that last sentence. And then it somehow got even better as I got the chance to interview the cast and filmmakers. I don’t want to spoil the movie, so I’ll just say that it’s probably the most action-packed and thrilling film Pixar has ever done. This is one of the most highly-anticipated films of the summer and it absolutely delivers.
The folks primarily responsible for crafting the thrill ride? Director Lee Unkrich and Darla K. Anderson. Unkrich has been at Pixar since Toy Story and he co-directed Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo. Anderson has also worked on Pixar films since the first Toy Story and so these two are about as veteran as it gets. Hit the jump for what they had to say about the flick and be sure to keep checking back as I’ll be posting a new interview every day this week. Finally, click here for 5 movie clips and 18 high resolution images from Toy Story 3.
