Despite a never-ending onslaught of horror films, Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat is one of the few that seems to have amassed a serious cult following ever since it first hit the festival circuit in 2007. Mondo (the Alamo Drafthouse’s in-house art boutique) has a sweet poster for the film designed by Drew Millward. The poster measures 15″x24″, is limited to an edition of 120, and will cost $30. It goes on sale today at a random time so be sure you’re following @MondoNews for the official announcement.

The story behind Trick ‘r Treat is almost as interesting as the film itself. Finished in 2007, the film got caught up in some politicking and marketing concerns. Not a very expensive movie – after being sneaked in LA, and shown at Butt-Numb-a-Thon – it’s just now coming out on DVD and Blu-ray. Somewhat unfairly. My review after the jump.

I finally got to see “Trick ‘r Treat” this week and absolutely loved it. The film was supposed to come out back in 2007, but for some reason WB held the film back and it sat on the shelf until now. It’s a true shame since the film live up to it’s great online reputation as it’s an origina and extremely fun film and you can’t help but be frustrated and confused as to why WB decided to treat the film so badly. What also makes it even more sad is that the film’s writer-director, Mike Dougherty, had planned to create sequels for the Halloween anthology film which would be released every Halloween. Now that the film has been released on DVD, it seems that the love for “Trick r’ Treat” is once again strong, and it’s leading to Dougherty brainstorming some ideas for “Trick ‘r Treat 2″. You can hear them all when you hit the jump.

I’ve been hearing about “Trick ‘r Treat” for years now I think. The buzz for this film has been pretty much unanimously amazing forever now and it has sadly only been sitting around on some shelf only gathering dust while only gaining more buzz online. Sadly, the trailer that popped up today has the word “DVD” in front of it instead of “Theatrical” but I guess we should be happy that the film is finally even coming out. You can watch the quote filled trailer after the jump.

I was given the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Trick R Treat hyphenate Michael Dougherty and we chatted about his feeling about the Comic Con screening, the nature of his character Sam and potential future outlets for the concept. More after the jump:

If you’re a fan of the horror genre, you’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of Michael Dougherty’s directorial debut, Trick R Treat. Thankfully, the end is nigh and I had the opportunity to sit down for a roundtable discussion with writer-director Michael Dougherty and cast members Lauren Lee Smith and Brian Cox for some inside scoop. More after the jump –

It wasn’t all reporting on dead presidents and calling out the bullshit of elected officials for Walter Cronkite, who died this past Friday at the age of 92. Cronkite also did a fun little report on “Tron” back in 1982 and took a look at the way computer graphics were built into films and used to create a world and a story that couldn’t be done using conventional sets and practical effects. It’s neat that this story does focus on the emergence of computer generated images in cinema and attempting to predict their future prevalence. I can’t help but wonder if “Tron” will once again push the technology further when the sequel hits in 2011.
