We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share with you today. First up, Glee star Lea Michele may finally get her wish of reprising a Broadway role in the feature film adaptation. Michele was previously up for the role of Eponine in Tom Hooper’s movie musical Les Miserables (she starred as Young Cosette on Broadway and as Eponine at the Hollywood Bowl), but stage star Samantha Barks ultimately won the part. Now the actress is apparently in talks for the movie version of Spring Awakening. Michele originated the female lead in the smash hit Broadway musical, and director McG recently told E! Online that he’s in talks with the actress to reprise the role for his feature adaptation.

The This Means War director stressed that they have to see if Michele’s Glee schedule interferes with his shooting schedule, but he’s hopefuly things will work out. Steve sat down with McG recently and the director gave updates on all of his upcoming projects, including Spring Awakening. He said that he’s planning on putting a Baz Luhrmann-esque spin on the movie. No word on how soon filming will begin, but I sincerely hope Jonathan Groff reprises his Broadway lead in the film as well. Hit the jump for casting news regarding Clint Eastwood’s baseball drama Trouble with the Curve.

John Goodman Joins Clint Eastwood in the Baseball Drama TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE

The cast for the baseball drama Trouble with the Curve is shaping up to be quite impressive. Clint Eastwood first signed on to the pic to play a baseball scout going blind who decides to take his daughter on one last scouting trip. Amy Adams quickly joined the cast as Eastwood’s daughter, and recently Justin Timberlake—furthering his increasingly impressive film resume—signed on to play a former pitcher and current scout who takes a liking to Adams.  Now Variety reports that John Goodman has signed on to play “an old-school scout and longtime friend of Eastwood’s character who still believes in the man’s ability to spot talent.” Goodman makes a fantastic addition, and I’m becoming more and more interested in this project with each casting announcement.

Eastwood’s longtime producing partner Robert Lorenz is making his directorial debut with the drama, which was written by Randy Brown. Goodman recently wrapped two highly anticipated projects—Robert Zemeckis’ return to live-action Flight with Denzel Washington, and Ben Affleck’s next directorial effort Argo. He’s also set to soon reteam with Joel and Ethan Coen on the folk music pic Inside Llewyn Davis which also stars Timberlake.

At this point, it’s pretty safe to say that Justin Timberlake won’t be returning to the music world anytime soon. After his breakout performance in The Social Network, Timberlake landed the co-lead in Joel and Ethan Coen’s folk music period pic Inside Llewyn Davis, and now he’s set to co-star with none other than Clint Eastwood. The actor is in negotiations to star alongside the Unforgiven actor in the baseball drama Trouble with the Curve. The film marks the directorial debut of Eastwood’s producing partner Robert Lorenz and centers on an ailing baseball scout who takes his daughter on one last recruiting trip.

Amy Adams is onboard as Eastwood’s daughter and Variety reports that Timberlake will play Johnny Flanagan, “a former pitcher who now works as a baseball scout for the New York Yankees.” Flanagan is set up as a potential love interest for Adams’ character. Fingers crossed we get a scene where grizzled badass Eastwood tells Timberlake stay away from his daughter. And his lawn. Trouble with the Curve opens September 28th.

Joe Massingill and Matthew Lillard in Talks for TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE; Amy Adams Confirmed

Matthew Lillard and Joe Massingill are in talks to join Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams in the baseball drama Trouble with the Curve.  Eastwood stars as an aging baseball scout coping with blindness who takes his daughter (Adams) on “one last recruiting trip” to evaluate a young player in Atlanta.  According to EW, Lillard will play a fellow scout.  The Wrap was unable to identify which role Warner Bros. wants Massingill for, but points out the young actor grew up in Georgia—there’s a good chance he’s the young Atlanta player in question.  Massingill has acted in a handful of shorts and TV series (including Glee), but this would be his first major role.

Last we checked in with the project, the offer was out to Adams.  From the wording of tonight’s reports, it appears Adams found room in her schedule to sign on in a more official capacity, which is always a promising sign for a project.  Eastwood’s producing partner Robert Lorenz is making his directorial debut on Trouble with the Curve based on a script by Randy Brown.  The start date is scheduled for early March.

While Clint Eastwood’s next directorial project, a remake of A Star is Born, is on hold for Beyonce’s pregnancy, the 81-year-old is plotting a return to acting to fill the gap. He’s set to star in the drama Trouble with the Curve for director Robert Lorenz (who also happens to be Eastwood’s longtime assistant director), and now it looks like they’ve found their female lead. While Sandra Bullock was initially eyed for the role, her schedule is too packed to fit the movie in so now Amy Adams has been offered the part. The story centers on “an aging baseball scout who’s losing his sight and decides to take a road trip to Atlanta with his daughter to eye a hot prospect.”

Variety reports that Bullock and Adams were eyed from the get-go, and now it’s Adams’ turn to see if she can move her schedule around to take the part. Adams is currently filming Man of Steel and will next be seen in The Muppets.

Sandra Bullock Possibly in Talks to Co-Star with Clint Eastwood in TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE

Last week, we reported that Clint Eastwood was planning to return to acting by signing on to star in Trouble with the Curve.  Eastwood had previously claimed that Gran Torino would be his last performance, but it looks like he’ll return to help out his longtime assistant director Robert Lorenz on his directorial debut, especially since Eastwood’s next directing gig, A Star Is Born, has been delayed due to Beyonce’s pregnancy.  Curve would have Eastwood playing aging baseball scout who’s losing his eyesight and takes his daughter on a road trip to help evaluate a young prospect.

Twitch is now reporting that Sandra Bullock is in talks to play the daughter.  If Bullock takes the role, expect this flick to hit the pipeline fast.  The Oscar-winning actress will next be seen in Stephen Daldry’s Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and next year she stars in Alfonso Cuaron’s long-awaited sci-fi film Gravity.

Clint Eastwood May Star in TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE

Clint Eastwood’s next film may not be as a director. The legendary actor/director is in talks to star in the drama Trouble with the Curve for Warner Bros. Deadline reports that Robert Lorenz is making his directorial debut with the project that centers on an aging baseball scout who heads on a last road trip to Atlanta with his daughter as he’s losing his sight. Eastwood was set to make his next directorial project the remake of A Star Is Born, but star Beyonce’s unexpected pregnancy has pushed the production date back. Eastwood had previously professed that his starring turn in Gran Torino would likely serve as his last as he had no plans to act again, but the Randy Brown-scripted baseball drama must have caught his eye. The fact that Lorenz has been a longtime business partner of Eastwood’s, and even served as an assistant director on a number of his films, probably had something to do with changing his mind as well.
