In Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil, available on Magnolia On-Demand and in select theaters starting September 30th, two lovable hillbillies (played by Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk) head to their fixer-upper vacation cabin to drink some beer and have a good time. Once there, they cross paths with a group of preppy college kids who mistake them for chainsaw-wielding killers, and what was supposed to be some relaxing time away, quickly takes a bloody and hilarious turn for the worse.
At the film’s press day, actor Tyler Labine spoke with Collider for this exclusive interview about signing on for Dale so early on that they went through a whole list of actors (including Johnny Knoxville and Dane Cook) looking for the right Tucker, making sure the tone of the horror comedy was right on, playing everything for the reality of the situation in the hopes that the comedy would come through, the challenges of being covered in blood from dawn to dusk, and how he would love to return to the role of Dale for a sequel. He also talked about playing the title role in the independent feature Lumpy, and a new show called Guidance, that he’ll be producing (along with Ryan Reynolds and Allan Loeb) and starring in for Fox. Two bits of casting news for you today: one from a Canadian, dark comedy, indie pic while the other is from the fifth installment in a big budget horror franchise. First up, is the addition of Malin Akerman (Watchmen) and Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale vs Evil) to director Peter Wellington’s Cottage Country. The pair star as a couple vacationing at a family cottage where Todd (Labine) plans to propose, but is derailed by the arrival of his lazy brother and his hippie girlfriend.
In less quaint and subtle cinema, the role of Leon Kennedy will be portrayed by Johann Urb (2012) in Resident Evil: Retribution. This is the latest addition to the cast of the fifth installment in the video game/horror franchise starring Milla Jovovich. The news of his casting comes via her Twitter account when she said, “AND if u checked out my vid yesterday from the table reading u wld hve noticed Johann Urb! He is our Leon Kennedy n looks jst like him BTW!!”

We’ve got a couple new posters to share with you today. First up, the one-sheet for William Friedkin’s (The Exorcist) black comedy Killer Joe has been unveiled. The film centers on a brother and sister (Emile Hirsch and Juno Temple) who hire a contract killer (Matthew McConaughey) to kill their mother in order to get the pay out from her life insurance policy. The cast for Killer Joe also includes Thomas Haden Church and Gina Gershon. The film will be featured at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival.
Also, we’ve got a new poster for Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. The horror comedy centers on a couple of rednecks who are mistaken for murderous hillbillies by a group of college kids. Things quickly go awry when they try to lend a hand to a girl who becomes separated from the group. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil stars Alan Tudyk, Tyler Labine, and Katrina Bowden, and is currently available VOD with a theatrical release September 30th. Hit the jump to check out the posters.

I didn’t want to write this review because it would involve me giving more thought to repulsive, selfish characters who populate a comedy that’s almost entirely devoid of laughs. There’s something fascinating about a movie that sets up jokes and then forgets to deliver a punchline. And because awful character delivering non-jokes isn’t enough, the film is saddled with limp, thoughtless direction that misses every opportunity for a laugh. When A Good Old Fashioned isn’t being clichéd, it’s being dull, and sometimes it’s both, but it’s hardly ever funny.

Samuel Goldwyn Films has sent us over seven new images from A Good Old Fashioned Orgy. The movie is about a bunch of friends who have had a lot of good times at a beach house but when the house is about to be sold, they decide to go out with a (gang)bang. The ensemble cast features Jason Sudeikis, Leslie Bibb, Lake Bell, Michelle Borth, Nick Kroll, Tyler Labine, Angela Sarafyan, Lindsay Sloane, Martin Starr, Lucy Punch, and Will Forte.
Hit the jump to check out the images. A Good Old Fashioned Orgy opens September 2nd.

Magnet Releasing announced today via press release that it has acquired domestic distribution rights to the horror/comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. Starring Alan Tudyk, Tyler Labine, and Katrina Bowden, the film features a continuously rising body count that derives from the misconception that Tucker and Dale (Tudyk and Labine) are backwoods murderous creeps ala Deliverance. The film debuted at Sundance all the way back in 2010 at which point Steve conducted video interviews with both Tudyk and Labine. You can click here and here to check out each of those sit-downs and click here to take in three clips from the film. Per the announcement, Magnet plans to release the pic on VOD platforms on August 26th and theatrically on September 30th.

Justin Long, Jess Weixler (Teeth), Tyler Labine (Reaper), and Addison Timlin (Californication) will star in the indie Lumpy. Deadline reports that the story “begins with a wedding in Arizona, where the groom (Long) and bride (Weixler) find their nuptials heightened by their life of the party best man, Lumpy (Labine). That’s until he dies at the end of the evening.” Which I suppose would then make him the death of the party. Either way, the newlyweds cancel their honeymoon and head to Minneapolis to arrange a funeral, but slowly they discover that perhaps they didn’t know Lumpy as well as they thought.
Michael Landes, Evan Jones, and Shelley Long will co-star in the film, which is the feature directing debut of Ted Koland who also wrote the script. Filming is currently underway in Minnesota.

Fox’s Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes, was scheduled to come out this summer, but was pushed back to the holiday season so that there was more time to work on the special effects. The new Apes flick centers on a young scientist (James Franco) whose attempts to cure Alzheimer’s leads to the creation of a super-intelligent ape (played by Andy Serkis using motion-capture). The first official image from the film has been released, and while there are no apes rising, we do get to see Franco working hard at the science.
Hit the jump to check out the image. Rise of the Apes also stars Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Tom Felton, Tyler Labine, and Brian Cox. The film opens November 23rd.

The new CBS comedy series Mad Love is about four New Yorkers, two who are falling in love, and another two who are forced to get to know each other, as a result. Ben (Jason Biggs) is a lawyer and hopeless romantic who meets the beautiful Kate (Sarah Chalke) by chance and instantly thinks she is the woman of his dreams. As they try to build a relationship, Ben’s best friend and co-worker Larry (Tyler Labine) and Kate’s roommate Connie (Judy Greer) begrudgingly have to spend a lot of time together and, even though they have a lot in common, neither can get past how much they despise the other.
During a recent press day to promote the show’s premiere, co-stars Jason Biggs, Sarah Chalke, Tyler Labine and Judy Greer talked about what sets Mad Love apart from other relationship sitcoms, collaborating together on this project, and how lucky they feel to be airing after How I Met Your Mother. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

Sony Pictures and Samuel Goldwyn Films have picked up the distribution rights to A Good Old Fashioned Orgy. According to Variety, the story–co-directed by Pete Huyck and Alex Gregory (Frasier)–centers on “a group of 30-somethings who spend every summer weekend throwing elaborate theme parties and eventually throw one final bash – an orgy.” The comedy will star Saturday Night Live‘s Jason Sudeikis who’s poised to have a breakout year. He’ll next be seen in theater in the comedy Hall Pass and again later this year alongside Jason Bateman and Charlie Day in Horrible Bosses. Sony and Goldwyn plan to release Orgy in late summer.
According to THR, the film has an outstanding cast that not only includes Sudeikis, but also Tyler Labine, Leslie Bibb, Will Forte, Lucy Punch, Lake Bell, Michelle Borth, Martin Starr, Nick Kroll, Lindsay Sloaneand, and David Koechner.

FOX has allotted one of its plummest timeslots for Sons of Tucson. The new comedy will air Sundays after ratings smash Family Guy, in effect marring the “Animation Domination” moniker. However, while the characters are live-action, their actions do not fall too far outside the realm of cartoon. Essentially a family comedy without the nuisance of parental guidance, Tucson shoots for the delicate balance between wacky and sentiment that Modern Family nails weekly over on ABC. In the first three episodes, Tucson proves that this blended family is good for at least a few laughs each week.

At last week’s Sundance Film Festival, I had the opportunity to speak with Alan Tudyk for his new movie Tucker & Dale vs. Evil – which premiered at the Festival to great reviews. Starring Tudyk and Tyler Labine, Tucker & Dale is about two Virginian hillbillies that get mistaken for killers by kids on spring break. Trust me, it’s a very funny movie and one you should be excited to see.
During the interview we talked about being at Sundance, his reaction to seeing the movie for the first time, PG Porn (watch his episode here), his next movie Beautiful Boy (which stars Moon Bloodgood, Michael Sheen, and Maria Bello) and we talked about being on ABC’s V. If you’re a fan of Alan Tudyk, you’ll love the interview:

Another of the many films that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was the horror/comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. Starring Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine, Tucker & Dale is about two Virginian hillbillies that get mistaken for killers by kids on spring break. Trust me, it’s a very funny movie and one you should be excited to see. And if you look around the net, you’ll notice almost all the reviews were great and I’m pretty sure someone will be buy the film for distribution.
Anyway, I managed to get some time with Tyler Labine (who you may know from the CW’s Reaper) and we talked about how the film came together, what the film is about and his character, what it’s really like to be at Sundance, his new FOX show Sons of Tucson, and a lot more. So hit the jump and check out the interview:

Along with the images from 7 Days, Frozen, HIGH School, and Splice, we also have new images today from The Perfect Host starring David Hyde Pierce, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil starring Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine, and The Violent Kind. All these films will be premiering at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival in the “Park City at Midnight” category. The films that play in this category may not have the most prestige among the films at the festival, but they may end up being some of the most fun. Judging from the images, I particularly think Dale & Tucker vs. Evil could be a blast. Hit the jump to check out images and synopses for the three films.
The 2010 Sundance Film Festival runs from January 21-31st.

“Reaper” is hands down one of the funniest shows on television. The cast is fantastic, the writing is really sharp and entertaining, pretty much everything about this show works. Coming into its sophomore year, which can make or break some shows, has proven that Sam and the boys are even better the second time around. You may have missed this show because it’s hidden amongst a lot of garbage on The CW, in fact I would venture to say that it’s the only show with personality and charm on the entire network, the rest of the programming seems to focus on vacuous pretty people in remakes of shitty 90′s shows (Melrose Place anyone?).
