The scary mysteries and odd eccentricities of a very unique coastal Maine town will continue to unfold in Season 3 of the Syfy drama series Haven, based on the novella The Colorado Kid from renowned author Stephen King. Picking up immediately following the events of the gripping Season 2 finale, with Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) having been kidnapped, longtime adversaries Nathan (Lucas Bryant) and Duke (Eric Balfour) must put aside their differences, long enough to find and save her. Although this season will continue to explore the lives of the residents of Haven and their “troubles,” which include a variety of supernatural afflictions, it will also start to delve deeper into the mythology behind the bigger questions of, who is Audrey Parker, why does she return to Haven every 27 years with a new identity, and what is her connection to this special town?

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Emily Rose talked about how Season 3 will be a lot darker and more ambitious, the long-term story that will deal with Audrey’s mystery abductor, how this season will be a real reward for the fans who have been watching since the beginning, how much fun it was to get to further explore the mystery of The Colorado Kid, how blessed she feels to be able to take such a journey with her character, whether or not she thinks Audrey and Nathan will ever be on the same page, and their great line-up of guest stars. She also talked about how her dream roles include doing a Western, as well as a movie version of the Uncharted video game series, for which she voices the character Elena Fisher. Sony Pictures is moving forward with their adaptation of the popular video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, as the project now has new writers.  Variety reports that Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (National Treasure) will rewrite the script which was previously written by Neil Burger.  The Ilusionist and Limitless director signed on to write and direct Uncharted last summer, but Variety now notes that he’s no longer involved with the project.  He recently entered talks to direct the young adult adaptation Divergent, so that may have had something to do with his departure.

Uncharted has been in development for quite some time, and before Burger was attached it was David O. Russell that was planning on directing.  Sony now wants to wait until the Wibberleys finish their script before they start the search for another director.

The sci-fi thriller Limitless, available on DVD and Blu-ray on July 19^th, is an intense and gripping adrenaline rush, starring Bradley Cooper as Eddie Morra, a burnt-out writer who discovers a top-secret pill that unlocks 100% of his brain’s capacity. He instantly acquires mind-bending talents and mesmerizing visions that bring him everything he could have ever dreamed or desired, but his life soon becomes a waking nightmare, as the drug’s brutal side effects take their toll. Now with an unrated extended cut, an alternate ending, making of features, deleted scenes and audio commentary, the box office success can be enjoyed even further on DVD and Blu-ray.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, Limitless director Neil Burger talked about how excited he is for people to see the extended cut that is wilder and more extreme than the PG-13 theatrical release, why it took time to perfect the ending of the film, how he believes you shouldn’t reveal everything with the audio commentary, and that he was relieved with how successful the film was. He also talked about recently signing on to helm the big screen adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, rewriting the script and starting over from scratch, how the already cinematic video game has a great character and some intense moments that he’s looking forward to translating for film, and that he hopes to take fans of the game and moviegoers on an exhilarating ride. Neil Burger (Limitless) has signed on to write and direct the adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  Burger replaces David O. Russell who left the project in May after Sony disagreed with O. Russell’s decision not to give fans exactly what they think they wanted (which, if it’s a straight adaptation of Drake’s Fortune, is just a video game they can’t play).  Variety reports that “producers Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner sparked to [Burger's] new take on the pic.”

When a director is coming off an Oscar nomination, or better yet a win, he or she automatically has some clout in choosing his or her next project.  It’s a tough decision, and you may only get once chance, so you best choose wisely. David O. Russell, coming off his Oscar nomination for The Fighter, seems to be circling 1,000 projects at the moment, and another one has just been added to the list.  THR reports that Russell is currently one of the directors being considered to helm Disney’s fantasy flick Maleficent. Angelina Jolie is attached to star, and Tim Burton was previously set to direct before backing out last month.

Disney is looking at a number of directors for the job (Darren Aronofsky and David Yates have been mentioned) and Russell has plenty on his plate already, so this deal is far from a sure thing, but it appears Russell is on the list of candidates.  The Fighter director recently dropped out as director of Uncharted, and today he explained a bit about why he left that project.  Hit the jump to check out what he had to say, which includes updates on a number of his upcoming projects.

Yesterday, we reported that director David O. Russell had left Sony’s adaptation of their hit video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  No reason was given at the time but it looked like O. Russell was moving on to direct an adaptation of The Silver Linings Playbook instead.  Today, 24 Frames has new details on O. Russell’s departure from the project.  It appears that O. Russell’s script was so long, ambitious, and perhaps most damning (from Sony’s perspective), it added plenty of characters who weren’t in the video game.  As we reported last year, O. Russell had apparently changed Nathan Drake from a lone adventurer to a participant in a family of treasure hunters.  That change wasn’t totally surprising considering that most of O. Russell’s filmography explores family dynamics, but for fans and for Sony, such a change is probably anathema to what they want: their video game faithfully transplanted to the big screen.

Sony will hire a new director and screenwriter to work from an earlier draft by Conan the Barbarian screenwriters Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.  Mark Wahlberg has most likely left the project and a summer 2012 release looks doubtful.

David O. Russell has dropped out of directing the adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  The news doesn’t come as a total surprise since a couple weeks ago we learned that O. Russell was keen to adapt the novel The Silver Linings Playbook with Mark Wahlberg attached to star.  Deadline reports that Sony is hiring a new writer and they’re still determined to make the movie.  A new writer makes sense since O. Russell’s take on the material wasn’t a straight adaptation of the video game but rather recast protagonist Nathan Drake (played by Wahlberg) as part of a family of treasure hunters that would include his father and uncle with Wahlberg keen to have Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci play those roles.

Presumably, if O. Russell is out, then Wahlberg might leave the project as well and he has plenty of other movies he could make instead.  If that’s the case, then expect fans to renew their cries that Nathan Fillion should play Drake.

Last week, we told you that the video game director of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was denying that Mark Wahlberg was definitely going to star in the film adaptation of the popular adventure game. Not so fast, says Wahlberg:

David O’Russell is writing right now and hopes to direct. It’s myself, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro.

While that’s not a clear declaration that Wahlberg is officially signed on, it does sound like if that project happens, he’s definitely doing it. O’Russell’s currently doing the pre-Oscar press rounds for his latest film, The Fighter, but it sounds like he’s very much working on the Uncharted adaptation as well. There’s currently no official word on what specific roles De Niro and Pesci would be taking on, though Wahlberg previously stated his intention to have the two play his father and uncle respectively. Moviehole reports that they’re hoping to start shooting “in the summer time.” Though with the amount of times this project has flipped back and forth from being “on” and “off”, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

When we last heard about David O. Russell’s adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, it looked like Mark Wahlberg was set to play lead character Nathan Drake while Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci were being courted for a family dynamic storyline.  Not so fast, says Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception video game director Justin Richmond.  Richmond tells Joystiq “First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell.  He actually called us up and was like, ‘I don’t know what these guys are talking about.’”  They were talking about what O. Russell reportedly told the L.A. Times, when he said,

“This idea really turns me on that there’s a family that’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities … [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice…. We’ll have the family dynamic, which we’ve done in a couple of movies now.  And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That’s a really cool idea to me.”

Back in October, we reported that actor Nathan Fillion had begun a Twitter campaign to get himself the lead role in David O. Russell’s adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  Last month, we learned that the role had gone to frequent O. Russell collaborator, Mark Wahlberg.  However, it looks like no one told Fillion fan, “gregblessing27″, as he asked Russell point blank to cast Fillion.  While I agree that Fillion would be a better choice for the role than Wahlberg, O. Russell clearly feels comfortable in his relationship with Wahlberg and Sony, the studio behind the film and the game, probably prefers to have an actor with Wahlberg’s name recognition attached to the project.

Of course, it’s unknown if Uncharted will be O. Russell’s next project as he’s also considering Old St. Louis and The Silver Linings Playbook.  Hit the jump to check out the video and be uncomfortable.  O. While doing press for his new film The Fighter, writer-director David O. Russell talked about his upcoming movie: an adaptation of the popular video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  While the game centers on protagonist Nathan Drake’s search to find El Dorado (and killing a disturbing number of henchmen along the way), according to 24 Frames, O. Russell’s adaptation will “include Drake’s extended family — and put them in fraught, globetrotting situations with some of the world’s most influential people.”  This coincides with an earlier statement from Mark Wahlberg (who’s playing Drake) that they’re trying to get Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci to play Drake’s father and uncle, respectively.

Earlier this month, we reported the rumor that Mark Wahlberg was to play the lead in David O. Russell’s adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  We also reported that Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci were in talks to co-star.  Speaking to MTV, Wahlberg has now clarified those rumors.  He confirms that he will play the lead role of adventurer Nathan Drake (sorry, Nathan Fillion).  It will be his fourth film with O. Russell.  Said Wahlberg,

“David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with.  The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”

Last week, writer-director David O. Russell left Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and came on board to write and direct and adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  It’s interesting to see O. Russell leave one genre project for another when you consider that his last movie was “an existential comedy”.  But who will star as protagonist Nathan Drake?  Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion thinks it should be him.  Fillion has begun a Twitter campaign to have his almost 650,000 followers cheer for him to get the role.  Hit the jump for why I think Fillion would be great for the part and the obstacles I see in the way of him getting it.
