Showtime’s David Nevins Talks DEXTER, SHAMELESS, LAUGHING STOCK, HOUSE OF LIES, WEEDS and More

As part of the Showtime portion of the TCA Press Tour, President of Entertainment David Nevins took some time to talk about a growth in subscribers of the network, the direction of returning series, and where he sees series development going in the future. Here are the most interesting points:

• Showtime has added over 2 million subscribers, taking their total accounts to 20.5 million.
• Dexter returns for its sixth season on October 2^nd, as the lead-in to the new drama series. Homeland, about a CIA officer (Claire Danes) who becomes convinced that a recently rescued American POW (Damian Lewis) may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on U.S. soil.
• Shameless, The Borgias and Episodes are all returning for a Season 2, with The Borgias being a massive production in its size and scope.
• The subversively funny comedy House of Lies, starring Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell, about cutthroat members of a top-tier management consultant firm, will premiere in early 2012.
• Laughing Stock (premiering in early 2012), from producers Steve Carell and David Steinberg, will showcase in-depth, one-on-one interviews with the greatest comic minds of the past four decades, including Jerry Seinfeld, Tina Fey, Chris Rock, Larry David, Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Judd Apatow, Ellen DeGeneres and Steve Carell, himself.
• They’re working on the script for the adaptation of the comic book 100 Bullets (written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Eduardo Risso) and, even though they’re not ready to commit to it yet, it is an important project for the network.
• He is optimistic about the future of Weeds, but United States of Tara was canceled because they felt the show had accomplished what it set out to accomplish.

Brie Larson Interview UNITED STATES OF TARA and SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD

Brie Larson has been acting since the age of six. After moving to Los Angeles, the Sacramento native soon landed a series regular role on the television series Raising Dad and segued into films, such as Sleepover and Hoot, all while nurturing a singing career.

Now, she can currently be seen as Kate Gregson, Tara’s (Toni Collette) teenaged daughter on the Showtime series United States of Tara, which returns for Season 2 on March 22^nd. She will also be seen in the features Greenberg, due out March 19^th, and the highly anticipated Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, from Edgar Wright.

In a recent interview, Brie Larson talked about exploring new aspects of her United States of Tara character, working alongside the accomplished Toni Collette and the musical jam sessions with her, Collette and John Corbett. The now 20-year-old also shared some insight on her role in Scott Pilgrim. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

MAD MEN and 30 ROCK Win Emmys Again for Best Drama and Best Comedy So No One Will Be Upset

Imagine if the same six or seven movies and their actors, writers, directors, etc. kept getting nominated for Oscars every year.  There would be slight deviations but for the most part, Academy members would just take their ballot from last year, peruse a couple of For Your Consideration ads, maybe read a critic’s list or two as a second source to make sure they weren’t making any selection deemed interesting, and you’d wonder if they just showed a repeat except they somehow replaced Jon Stewart with Hugh Jackman.

“TV’s Finest Night” is always a repeat and you cherish just about anyone who hasn’t won an Emmy in the past no matter the quality of the show.  Yes, “Mad Men” and “30 Rock” are excellent shows but barring a steep decline in quality, I already know who’s going to win next year because the Emmys are a bunch of lazy wimps who don’t watch anything outside the ten shows they already love.  Hit the jump for a list of tonight’s winners and only grumbling since this farce isn’t worth the energy of a blinding rage.

Where to Find Seth Rogen’s “Superjew” T-Shirt from FUNNY PEOPLE

I’ve gotten a lot of e-mails ever since the first trailer for Judd Apatow’s “Funny People” came out after I asked if anyone knew where I could get Seth Rogen’s Superman-Star of David t-shirt.  Instead of people e-mailing me where to buy it, I just got a lot of e-mails asking if I had found it which was in no way helpful.  But in searching for birthday gifts for my brother, I found it.  I guess you could call it karma (that’s right, Jews believe in karma; ask your local rabbi) but I immediately put in an order for both my brother and myself although I thought about just buying one for me and just giving my brother a very nice card.

The shirts are great for Jews and Gentiles alike.  Also, part of the proceeds go to charity so I don’t understand why you’d be on the fence buying one.  Even if you didn’t like “Funny People”, don’t blame the shirt.  The shirt never did anything to you.  Hit the jump to get a full look at the tee, learn how it came about, and where you can purchase it.  Get one and be a stylish mensch.
