After seeing just one still of the movie in a trade paper, and then being sent the finished film, producer Joel Silver thought it was so effective that he ended up acquiring the rights to the horror feature Splice. Although he was always open to the possibility, acquiring an already-finished product was something he had never done before, under his Dark Castle banner.
While at the press day for the disturbing thriller, which stars Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody, the prolific producer also discussed a long list of other projects that he currently has in various stages, including Unknown White Male, The Apparition, The Factory and Project X. He also talked about the disappointing box office for The Losers, his hopes to get Logan’s Run and Forbidden Planet into production, what’s holding up Swamp Thing and his thoughts on 3-D, as well as confirming that he is no longer working with The Wachowskis. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

If you like scheduling well in advance, this news item is for you. Warner Bros. has provided the tentative release dates The Factory, Unknown White Male, The Rite, Hall Pass, Horrible Bosses, while Disney has set their dates for Winnie the Pooh and Reboot Ralph. Last week I got to visit the set of The Apparition – which stars Sebastian Stan and Ashley Greene. While we’re embargoed from writing about the set visit (for now), we’ve been given permission to run parts of our interviews that don’t pertain to the film. Since producer Alex Heineman is involved in other projects as he works for Joel Silver, we got updates on Hot Wheels, Logan’s Run, and Sherlock Holmes 2.
While the updates are brief, the important thing to take away from this article is when I asked Heineman what else he’s working on, he said they’re really focused on Hot Wheels and Logan’s Run. While I knew Hot Wheels was moving forward, I didn’t realize Logan’s Run was such a priority at Silver Pictures. He went on to say they’re trying to find the right director for Logan’s Run, which means while it’s a priority, it’s not that close to being in front of the cameras. Hit the jump for exactly what he said:

Principal photography has begun on Jaume Collet-Serra’s (Orphan) next project Unknown White Male in Germany. According to Warner Bros., the film will be shot entirely on location, with some filming at Studio Babelsberg, the oldest large-scale studio complex in the world. The film stars Liam Neeson (Schindler’s List, Clash of the Titans), Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds), January Jones (Mad Men), Aidan Quinn (The Book of Daniel), Bruno Ganz (The Reader) and Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon). With Warner Bros. Ninja Assassin set for release next week, the studio held a press day this afternoon here in Los Angeles. While I’ll have plenty of video interviews for you to watch over the next few days, the first one I’d like to share is with producer Joel Silver. Also, since Silver is producing tons of other projects like Sherlock Holmes, The Losers, Sgt. Rock, Lobo, Unknown White Male, and The Book of Eli, I figure his interview is the first one I should post.
While I didn’t get any major scoops, I did find out what’s up with Lobo and what does he think of Jeffrey Dean Morgan for the role. Also, we talked about how Francis Lawrence landed the directing job on Sgt. Rock and does he think it might get made next year. Of course many other subjects were talked about so watch the interview after the jump:

“Mad Men” is paying big dividends for the lovely and talented January Jones. On Sunday she came signed on to “Unknown White Male” and will co-star with Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger. Two days later, Variety reports she has another major role as she joins Nicolas “Not the Bees” Cage for the upcoming thriller, “Hungry Rabbit Jumps”. Directed by Roger Donaldson (“The Bank Job”), the movie “centers on a man (Cage) who becomes entangled with an underground vigilante organization after his wife (Jones) is the victim of a brutal crime.” It will be Jones’ job to keep Cage from masticating every piece of scenery he can find. Shooting is set to begin this January while shooting for “Unknown White Male” is scheduled to begin shooting at the end of January. “Mad Men” will return for a fourth season but no word yet on when it will start shooting or when it will premiere.
Hit the jump to enjoy pictures of January Jones being sexy.

The upcoming Liam Neeson thriller “Unknown White Male” just got a whole heap of sexy as today we learn that “Mad Men’s” January Jones and “Inglourious Basterds’” Diane Kruger have joined the cast. According to Variety, the story “centers on a man who awakens from a coma to find that someone else has assumed his identity, and no one, including his wife, believes him. With the help of a young woman, he sets out to prove who he is.” Jones will play Neeson’s wife who is “caught up in a conspiracy regarding her husband.” Kruger plays a Berlin cab driver who ends up helping Neeson, because when you’re in trouble and are suffering from identity fraud you always place your trust in the hot cab driver. I love talking to directors. That’s because while actors are great to talk with, director’s are the ones with the real stories. After all, a director is the one who cast the leads and they’re also the ones who decided on the look and feel of whatever movie you’re watching. Ultimately, if you love or hate a movie, it’s the director who deserves the praise or scorn.
And director Jaume Collet-Serra (“House of Wax”) proved my point about talking to directors as he had a lot to say about the look of “Orphan” and why he wanted to make the film. He also talked about the alternate ending that’s going to be on the DVD/Blu-ray, film versus digital, and what he has coming up – it’s another Dark Castle film called “Unknown White Male”. If you’ve been looking forward to “Orphan”, Jaume has a lot to say so take a look:
