The circus that is upfronts continues with ABC announcing a slew of cancellations, pick-ups and renewals. Via TV Line, the network has decided to cancel sci-fi series V, Matthew Perry’s sitcom Mr. Sunshine, the superhero family drama No Ordinary Family and the on-the-bubble drama Brothers and Sisters (after considering giving the show one more season, the network decided to free up their Sunday night slot and axe the show). Other cancellations at ABC include Off the Map, Detroit 187 and Better With You.

On a lighter note, freshman comedy Happy Endings and procedural drama Body of Proof were both renewed for a second season, and the Charlie’s Angels reboot has scored a pick-up. Other new series getting picked up include Tim Allen’s return Last Man Standing, controversial series Good Christian Belles (previously Good Christian Bitches), period soap Pan Am, Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal and the fairytale-themed Once Upon a Time from Lost vets Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Damon Lindelof hinted via Twitter that the show is “gonna be special.”

Programming for Wondercon 2011 Announced: GREEN LANTERN, COWBOYS & ALIENS, IMMORTALS, and More

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 21st, 2011 at 8:11 am

Programming for this year’s WonderCon has been announced.  This will be my first year attending WonderCon and Steve has informed me that it’s like Comic-Con except you can breathe.  While WonderCon may be the less-famous sibling to Comic-Con, it still has some big-name panels for fans.  This year, WonderCon is giving over the Esplanade Ballroom to some of the year’s biggest genre properties.  Leading the list of films is Warner Bros’ Green Lantern as well as Cowboys & Aliens, Super, The Three Musketeers, Hanna, Priest, and Immortals.  TV is also getting some attention with panels devoted to the new series Falling Skies, ThunderCats, and Terra Nova as well as Nikita, Doctor Who, Human Target, and V.  There will also be plenty of artists, writers, and other creative folks.

Hit the jump for the full schedule.  Wondercon 2011 runs from April 1 – 3rd at the Moscone Center South in San Francisco.

Laura Vandervoort Exclusive Interview V

by Christina Radish    Posted: January 18th, 2011 at 5:28 am

Actress Laura Vandervoort has become well-known to sci-fi fans for her work both as Supergirl on the popular TV series Smallville, currently in its 10th and final season, and currently as Lisa, the daughter of the Queen of the alien visitors on the drama series V. Being groomed to take over the throne by her mother while her heart lies with the Fifth Column resistence movement, her character Lisa is becoming more and more conflicted as she has to hide her true emotions from the V’s on the mothership or risk putting her life in jeopardy.

At the party celebrating the ABC portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Laura Vandervoort talked about her character’s journey in Season 2, getting to make Lisa a little more human in her behavior and appearance, and how shocked she thinks viewers will be by the season finale. She also reflected on her experience on Smallville and expressed her desire to return before that series ends this year. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Morena Baccarin Interview V

by Christina Radish    Posted: January 11th, 2011 at 7:52 am

On the sci-fi drama V, actress Morena Baccarin plays Anna, the beautiful leader of the Visitors and a Queen born to rule the advanced alien species whose spaceships have arrived on Earth and positioned themselves over 29 cities around the world. To the people of Earth, she appears to be charming and peaceful, as she offers gifts and invites humans to live on her ships under the guise of friendship, but in reality, Anna is cruel and cunning, ruling the Visitors with an iron fist and manipulating humanity in horrifying and unpredictable ways. No one knows her true intentions on Earth – not the Fifth Column resistence, and not even her daughter, Lisa (Laura Vandervoort) – which makes her all the more dangerous.

While at the party to celebrate the ABC portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Morena Baccarin talked about working with original V star Jane Badler this season, the continuing changes in her character, the addition of Marc Singer to the cast and the love she still receives from fans of Joss Whedon’s Firefly, on which she played Inara Serra. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

V: The Complete First Season Blu-Ray Review

by Nico    Posted: November 23rd, 2010 at 7:38 am

If you’re old enough, you remember the original incarnations of V and V: The Final Battle.  Me?  I used to stay up late to watch them when they were re-run as a child.  I was fascinated by the Visitors and when I learned ABC has rebooting the show, I was on-board for, at the very least, the beginning.  Did I want to stay after that?  Find out after the jump.

WB Promotes on 29,000 Comic-Con Hotel Room Keys

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: July 16th, 2010 at 10:27 am

Every year at Comic-Con, the studios find new and interesting ways to promote their new and returning TV shows and movies.  For the past two years, Warner Bros. Entertainment has used hotel room key cards as a way to raise awareness for some of their shows.  Since the promotion worked in the past, they’ve just announced they’re doing it again and they’ve created five limited-edition collectible key cards featuring specially designed artwork for Smallville, Supernatural, V, Batman: Under the Red Hood and a DC Comics App.  You can see what they look like after the jump.  According to the press release, the cards will be used for 29,000 hotel room keys…meaning if you’re going to Comic-Con, you’re going to probably get one.

Comic-Con slice

Warner Bros. has announced a record 14 shows are heading to this year’s Comic-Con and they’ve included a listing of what days each show is presenting their panel and some of the stars that will be there.  Included in the lineup are The Big Bang Theory, Chuck, Fringe, Human Target, Nikita, Smallville, Supernatural, V, The Vampire Diaries, Childrens Hospital, Unnatural History, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, MAD, and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.  They’ve also confirmed they’ll have a nearly 3,000 square-foot booth to host signing, show video game demos, and giveaway swag to the fans.  They do this every year so it’s not really a surprise.

For more info on what day they’re doing their panel and what stars are already confirmed, hit the jump:

In a sign that this year’s Comic-Con is going to be bigger than ever, THR is reporting a huge number of TV shows are already confirmed to appear at the Convention.  Included are:

While the official schedule usually gets released about a month from now, with Comic-Con only getting bigger every year, I’d imagine a lot more shows will be added to this list.  After all, I know Stargate Universe will be there and that’s not listed.  Finally, if you don’t have a badge…better get on eBay, as Comic-Con has been sold out for months.  See some of you in San Diego next month.

On the Bubble 2010: The Renewal/Cancellation Odds for Shows Such As CHUCK, FLASHFORWARD, and HUMAN TARGET

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: April 30th, 2010 at 11:48 am

pilot season TV ABC, CBS, FOX, CW, NBC slice.jpg

Last week, I put together a look at the various pilots that are fighting for a spot on the network schedules in the fall.  Of course, the networks cannot achieve their “in with the new” objective without first taking care of the first half of that saying: “Out with the old . . .”  A number of shows currently on the air–even series that are near and dear to your heart–must die a horrible and bloody death to make room for such potential hits as the J.J. Abrams spy drama Undercovers.

After the jump, we’ll distinguish between survivor and sacrificial lamb for such network series as Chuck, Heroes, FlashForward, V, Human Target, Numb3rs, and One Tree Hill.

Alan Tudyk Exclusive Video Interview TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL, BEAUTIFUL BOY, V and PG PORN

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: February 3rd, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Alan_Tudyk (2).jpg

At last week’s Sundance Film Festival, I had the opportunity to speak with Alan Tudyk for his new movie Tucker & Dale vs. Evil – which premiered at the Festival to great reviews.  Starring Tudyk and Tyler Labine, Tucker & Dale is about two Virginian hillbillies that get mistaken for killers by kids on spring break.  Trust me, it’s a very funny movie and one you should be excited to see.

During the interview we talked about being at Sundance, his reaction to seeing the movie for the first time, PG Porn (watch his episode here), his next movie Beautiful Boy (which stars Moon Bloodgood, Michael Sheen, and Maria Bello) and we talked about being on ABC’s V.  If you’re a fan of Alan Tudyk, you’ll love the interview:

Watch the First 8 Minutes of ABC’s V

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 23rd, 2009 at 6:50 pm

V logo ABC 2010.jpg

I really want ABC’s revamp of “V” to be good. But with the reported problems behind the scenes (the production was shut down to figure out where it was going), I’m less than optimistic the show is going to work. If you haven’t heard, ABC will air four episodes of “V” in November and then it’ll return in March. What that means is, if the ratings are good and the critics are kind, the network will order more episodes. If the ratings aren’t there, this first season is all we’re going to get.

So while I know the show is probably not going to make it, I’ll still be tuning in Tuesday, November 3rd at 8/7c to watch the premiere. But if you can’t wait till then, ABC has released the first eight minutes and you can watch it after the jump. Judge for yourself. “V” stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Scott Wolf and Morena Baccarin.

ABC’s V Gets Split

V logo ABC 2010.jpg

It looks like “V” is quickly becoming the Jan Brady of ABC’s trio of complex, shows. Going into it’s final season, the elder “Lost” is sure to be receive plenty of attention and, after its blockbuster premiere, “FlashForward” seems assured the same treatment. “V,” however, will have its freshman season interrupted by a three month hiatus. Hit the jump to find out why the resistance will be televised…eventually.

V (ABC) Comic-Con Interview – Executive Producers Jeffrey Bell, Scott Peters and Jace Hall

V logo ABC 2010.jpg

Let me hip you to something about roundtables: you rarely get the chance to ask the questions you want and hear the answers you need.  Thankfully, that was not the case when I got the chance to sit down with Executive Producers Jeffrey Bell and then Scott Peters and Jace Hall and learn their thoughts on the upcoming series.  While I didn’t walk into the room as skeptical as some others, after speaking with the trio, I felt like V is in very capable hands. 2009 San Diego Comic-Con Schedule for SATURDAY Featuring IRON MAN 2, EXTRACT, CHUCK, LOST, ZOMBIELAND, FUTURAMA and More!

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 11th, 2009 at 1:38 pm

san_diego_comic-con_2009_saturday_schedule.jpg

If you spent all of Friday in Hall H, then prepare to spend all day in Ballroom 20 on Saturday because, like it or not, Saturday is essentially TV Day at Comic-Con.  Yes, there’s definitely some stuff going down in Hall H that’s worth your time like “Iron Man 2″, Mike Judge’s “Extract”, and “Zombieland”.  However, all the major TV stuff (with a few exceptions) is going down in Ballroom 20 including “Chuck”, “Futurama”, “Family Guy”, “The Cleveland Show”, “V”, and “Fringe”.

Oh, and for all of you who like stuff that is complete and utter shit, Saturday also features panels for “True Blood”, “Heroes”, and “The Boondock Saints II”.  If there was a panel on punching off your genitals, I would say that would be preferable to any of those.  But it your time and your schedule and I’m sure all those rooms will be packed.  They’ll just be packed with people I hate because they like things I don’t.  That’s how it works.

Hit the jump to check out the full schedule for Saturday where I’ve highlighted events that I think may be popular (even where if I think that popularity is totally undeserved). And if you missed it, click here for Friday and click here for Thursday.
