G.I. Joe: Retaliation wants audiences back in the fight, especially since the film was delayed for nine months. As part of the film’s viral marketing campaign, Paramount is inviting fans to become part of the bad guys and join up with the Cobra Special Forces. A fake ad for the fighting force has gone online, and it’s a direct parody of almost every real military recruitment ad (personally, I like the one for the Marines where the guy got a sword to fight a dragon). But who can resist the call of duty when Keith David is providing the narration?
Hit the jump to check out the recruitment video. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, D.J. Cotrona, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, and Bruce Willis G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens in 3D on March 28th.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. began revealing its viral marketing for Pacific Rim, which included blueprints for different giant robots, a.k.a. “jaegers”. We’ve seen the Japanese Jaeger “Coyote Tango” and the Russian Jaeger “Cherno Alpha”. The Jaegers are part of a worldwide effort to stop the onslaught brought on by giant monsters known as “kaiju”. Today, we’re getting a look at the blueprint for the Australia Jaeger, “Striker Eureka”. First off, all of the jaegers so far have cool names. They also have unique weapons. As you’ll see from Striker Eureka’s blueprint, this bad boy is outfitted with assault-mounted “sting blades”, brass knuckles, and other fun stuff.
Hit the jump to check out the blueprint for Striker Eurka (which will also be the name of my first child). The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12, 2013. [Update: Warner Bros. has now released the blueprint for the Chinese Jaeger "Crimson Typhoon," which is included after the jump.]

In addition to all the other viral stuff Warner Bros. has released for Guillermo Del Toro‘s Pacific Rim, we now have another video that gives brief glimpses of the kaiju, the film’s gigantic monsters. This viral video is done in the style of a fractured news broadcast where damaged video streams show how San Francisco is being destroyed by one of the film’s kaiju (there’s more than one, and each will have a distinct look and different abilities). I think this video yet again proves that the Golden Gate Bridge is just asking be destroyed by either aliens or supernatural beings. This is what happens when you whore up a bridge.
Hit the jump to check out the video. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12, 2013.

One of my most-anticipated films of 2013 is Guillermo Del Toro‘s Pacific Rim. We haven’t seen a new film from the acclaimed filmmaker in almost five years, so it’s long overdue. Attendees at San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic-Con got a brief peek at the giant-monsters-versus-giant-robots movie Del Toro has planned, but it looks like Warner Bros. is getting ready to show the rest of the world what Pacific Rim has to offer. A new viral video has been released that shows the emergency alert system for kaiju (giant monsters) attacks. There’s also a copy of a letter from the Great Britain Air Command offering pilots to the jaeger (giant robots) program to help in defeating the kaiju. Finally, and most importantly, the official website has a countdown clock for an event that will take place 14 days from now. Del Toro has said in the past that we’ll see the first trailer in December. It also just so happens that another Warner Bros. film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, opens a little over two weeks from now. Studios usually like to have their 3D movies have trailers for the studio’s other 3D movies.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12, 2013. [Update: A blueprint for the Jaeger has been released. You can check it out after the jump. Click here for new viral video of a kaiju attack on San Francisco.]

An unnerving trailer for Brandon Cronenberg‘s Antiviral has gone online. The film stars Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class) as a worker at a specialized clinic where patients pay to be infected with diseases harvested from celebrities as a way to feel closer to their idols. Judging by the trailer, Brandon Cronenberg (son of David Cronenberg) seems to share his father’s understanding that being gory isn’t enough if you want to creep people out. You have to find the right way to destroy the human body if you want to disturb the audience. Antiviral looks like it’s going to disturb the hell out of its audience.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with the poster, a clip, and a viral promo (no pun intended). Antiviral will play at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, and I plan to check it out provided I haven’t eaten beforehand.

I have zero hope for M. Night Shyamalan‘s After Earth. I wouldn’t trust Shyamalan to direct a Wendy’s commercial at this point. But he keeps getting studios to give him lots of money to make tent pole movies, so here we are. For those unfamiliar with the film, it’s about a father (Will Smith) and son (Jaden Smith) who crash land on Earth 1000 years after the planet was abandoned by mankind. Once there, the son, named Kitai Raige, must try and help his wounded father (whose name, I kid you not, is Cypher Raige).
Bill attended the film’s panel at Comic-Con, and he came away impressed by the level of detail that screenwriter Gary Whitta (Book of Eli) and the production team had devised. A viral teaser trailer has gone online that doesn’t show any footage from the film, but explains how the Raiges are “the most influential family in human history,” going all the way back to 1908. This alternate history is shown via Facebook timeline, which apparently won’t evolve over the next 50 years (way to phone it in, Zuckerberg). Hit the jump to check out the video. After Earth opens June 7, 2013.

I’m still a little surprised that the Prometheus viral campaign has continued even though the movie has come out. However, there’s still a Blu-ray/DVD to sell, so now a new viral video has gone online. The video is the worst recruitment video of all time, as a happy Weyland scientist tries to talk about her positive experiences with the company only to be interrupted by short clips from the Prometheus trailer. However, if you can ignore the odd editing and still want to be part of the Prometheus experience, Weyland Industries will be recruiting at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. I’m not sure what this “recruitment” will entail, but if they offer you a drink, don’t take it.
Hit the jump to check out the video. The 2012 San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 12 – 15th. Here are some tips if you’re a first-time attendee.

A couple days ago we brought you a new piece of The Dark Knight Rises viral goodness by showing you the Mayor of Gotham’s signing of the Dent Act, which brings stronger penalties against the city’s criminals. Now an issue of Gotham’s paper-of-record, The Gotham Observer, is reporting on festivities for “Harvey Dent Day”, a slew of burglaries across the city (*cough*Catwoman*cough*), Zach Harris re-singing with the Gotham Rogues football team (he’s no Hines Ward), the ransacking of construction sites, and ad for the tech company, Rykin Data. Go to the website, and you’ll see that it’s under construction, but there’s an extract from a patent for an algorithm that can wipe away your entire digital footprint. Not a bad program for someone looking to disappear.
Hit the jump to check out the pages of the Gotham Observer. The film stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Morgan Freeman. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th.

Prometheus may have already hit theaters (to a $50 million opening), but the film’s intriguing viral campaign continues onward. If you’re wondering what’s left to uncover (other than trying to make sense of the film’s various inconsistencies), hit the jump for a new video, book cover, and more.

The viral campaign for Prometheus continues to dole out great material. I don’t know how they’ll top the ad for the David 8 (Michael Fassbender), but today’s new release is still worth your time. The site Blogbusters received an “audio puzzle”, and the solution was playing the audio backwards. And when you play the audio backwards, you get a chilling audio clip from the movie. We’ve already heard the “Get it off! Get it off!” part in the trailers, but there’s a full minute of terror packed into this thing. This may be even more effective than if they had provided the visuals as well.
Hit the jump to listen to the clip. The film also stars Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Charlize Theron. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.

It’s been a while since The Dark Knight Rises viral campaign asked anything of the legions of Batman fans. The viral campaign for The Dark Knight set a high watermark in what a viral campaign could do, but Rises has been fairly quiet ever since fans were told where they could go to see the first six minutes of the movie in IMAX. But now the viral is back on, and it’s allowing fans to try and unmask the next trailer before it debuts with The Avengers this Friday.
Hit the jump for more. The film also stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th.

Today, we showed you the awesome viral ad for “David 8″, the Weyland Industries android played by Michael Fassbender in Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus. We’ve also been sent an exclusive new piece of the viral puzzle. The code allows those skilled in the viral-decoding ways to unlock one of eight emotions for David. I don’t know what emotion it will be, but I’m crossing my fingers for “I’m going to creep you the fuck out”-face.
Hit the jump to check out the code, and then try to crack it at ProjectPrometheus.com. The film also stars Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, Logan Marshall-Green, and Charlize Theron. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.

Fox has found some fun ways to show more of Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus beyond the standard trailers, clips, TV spots, and images. A mini-game recently revealed more images of the eponymous spaceship, there was Peter Weyland’s (Guy Pearce) chilling TED Talk from the year 2023, and a quick look at the android, David 8 (Michael Fassbender). The latest release from the viral campaign is a full, two-and-a-half minute ad for David, and it’s a perfect mixture of cool and creepy.
Hit the jump to check out the video. The film also stars Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, Logan Marshall-Green, and Charlize Theron. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th. Scott recently said that the cut you see in theaters will be the director’s cut and run a hair under two hours. [Update: We've added a poster ad for the David 8]

The viral campaign for Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man continues onward. The previous viral website, “Mark of the Spider-Man”, recently posted a fake news segment of NYPD Captain Stacy (Denis Leary) speaking to Daily Bugle TV. Sadly, Daily Bugle Editor-in-Chief J. Jonah Jameson isn’t in the reboot, but Stacy preaches from the same book when he says, “What kind of hero wears a mask?” The video has Stacy telling viewers a hotline they can call if they see Spider-Man. The number is 877-651-8503, but it will just tell you to go to the website webbedmenace.com, which is where people can go and upload pictures of Spider-Man.
