With the Pixar prequel Monsters University opening in theaters this summer, the folks over at Threadless hosted a contest asking artists to design t-shirts inspired by the numerous characters that inhabit the first film, Monsters Inc.  The result is a pretty great collection of interesting and fun custom t-shirts that simultaneously express one’s love of art and Pixar movies.  Whether you prefer sporting an advertisement featuring the Abominable Snowman or something a bit more artsy that shows off the memorable Monsters Inc. doors, there’s something for everyone.  Head over to Threadless to peruse the collection.

Wear This? STAR TREK Goes Gaudy with Jewel-Encrusted Starfleet Pendants

by     Posted: December 1st, 2011 at 2:35 pm

It’s a sign of defiant nerdery to wear the Starfleet emblem around your neck.  It tells the world, “I love Star Trek and while I did not graduate from Starfleet Academy, I’m a big fan of their work and wanted to show my appreciation in pendant-form.”  But now there’s a better way to draw attention to your brazen love of all things Trek.  The Amazon.com Collection is selling jewel-encrusted Starfleet pendants.  Right now, a garish, unflattering pendant could be yours for the low, low price of $39.00.  But maybe you want to show that that Trek is as diverse as the colors of the rainbow.  Well you are in luck because you can buy something even worse than the pendant with all the cheap cubic-zirconia in it.

For the Trek fan in your life that you really dislike, this is a great gift for the holiday season.  Hit the jump to check out images of these stylish accessories.

Wear This: SURVIVOR-Inspired THE HUNGER GAMES Shirt

hunger-games-shirt-slice-01

RIPT’s shirt of the day is probably a must-buy for fans of The Hunger Games. It’s a clever play on the Survivor logo and I’m sure it’s made from the finest fabric the Capitol has to offer.  I’m not a big enough fan to buy it but I know plenty of devoted Hunger Games fans (do you guys have a nickname?  Tributes?  Mockingjays?  The Hungry?) read the site so I thought I would bring this to your attention.

Also, side note: looking at other movie websites, I’ve noticed that a lot of folks think The Hunger Games is another Twilight-like series.  That was my initial concern as well, but I promise that Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence in the movie) is the anti-Bella Swan.  In the first book she’s a stone-cold badass and it’s not until the following novels that she becomes mopey and kind of unbearable.  Anyway, hit the jump to check out the shirt.  Gary Ross’ adaptation of The Hunger Games hits on March 23, 2012.

If you’ve watched any of my on camera interviews, you’ve probably seen me wearing a Threadless.com t-shirt.   That’s because I’m a huge fan of the site and think the reader created limited t-shirts are great. Anyway, every Monday they release new shirts and if you’re a TV Addict like me, you might like this one.  That’s because Lawrence Villanueva created a shirt that incorporates Lost, Star Trek, 24, Chuck, Battlestar Galactica, The Simpsons, The Office, Fringe, and many other shows.  Hit the jump to check it out.

There are some charming geek-friendly shirts that are on sale today and today only.  First up, for the Star Trek nerds we have “Original Space Drunk” which has Captain Kirk showing he has a little Captain Morgan in him by standing proudly over the body of a redshirt.  The shirt bears the fun inscription, “Boldly Going Anywhere, Banging Anything, and Getting Red Shirts Killed In The Process.”

For the Star Wars geeks, there’s “Tatooine Suns” which will show off your love of not only desert planets, but also basketball.  Hit the jump to check out both shirts and links for where to buy them.

Today is Groundhog Day so naturally you’re going to be watching Groundhog Day.  But what else can you do to celebrate this holiday?  More importantly, what else can you do to celebrate the greatness of Bill Murray?  You can get this shirt, which has some of Murray’s most famous roles in Groundhog form.  Unfortunately, they can’t see their shadows so that means about 18 months of Garfield.

Wear This: STAR WARS “Darth Roast” Shirt

Forget the new Starbucks logo. While the coffee’s great, I’m not sure its mermaid design could rival a Darth Vader-inspired “Darth Roast” t-shirt. Designed by tattoo artist Jason C. Reed, the tee is a clever take on the famous coffeehouse’s logo featuring a headshot of the Dark Lord himself. Hit the jump to check out the shirt, which is on sale for today only.

Wear This: Old-Timey TRON Shirt, “Ancestry”

While I’m not sure how much cultural cache TRON holds after the disappointing TRON: Legacy, this is still a fun t-shirt.  I wish Legacy had this kind of playfulness and seeing a guy riding around on an old-timey light cycle brings a smile to my face.

Wear This: LOST “Rockem Sockem Candidates” Shirt and THE BIG LEBOWSKI “The Jesus” Shirt

A couple of cool t-shirts are on sale today and today only.  First up from Teefury is a cute Lost t-shirt called “Rockem Sockem Candidates”  [Spoilers if you haven't seen Lost] It’s a little sad but also slightly true to diminish Jack and Locke to minor pawns in Jacob and The Man in Black’s game.  But while chess may be more sophisticated, the pieces rarely rock or sock.

The other shirt comes from RIPT Apparel and is a nice sketch of everyone’s favorite pederast, The Jesus from The Big Lebowski.  If you’re the kind of person that can pull of wearing purple, then you’ll want to wear this shirt down to the bowling alley and fuck people in the ass (figuratively speaking).  Hit the jump to check out both shirts.

Wear This: Horcrux Collectors’ Club

Time is of the essence today over at RIPT Apparel as they are offering (until midnight tonight) a cool, Harry Potter-inspired, “Horcrux Collectors’ Club” shirt design.  You can pick up the design (by artist Matt Dearden) in a variety of styles and sizes including: men’s and women’s t-shirts for $10, kid t-shirts for $15, baby onesies for $18, and a unisex hoodie for $38 (shipping not included).  Though I’m ignorant in most things Potter-related, after some research, I can see why fans of the series might be interested in gathering as many of these as possible.

Wear This: Cloak of Visibility

On sale today at shirt.woot! is a fun Harry Potter shirt, that reads “Cloak of Visibility”.  I guarantee this shirt will work and you will be visible while wearing it.  As Potter fans know, the Cloak of Visibility is part of the less-respected “Lively Hallows”, which also includes the Young Wand and the Still-Dead Stone.  The only way this shirt could be better is if it were an actual cloak, but I’m sure there’s a spell for that (spells are the Apps of the Wizarding World).

Wear This: TRON and THE BIG LEBOWSKI T-Shirt Mashup

by     Posted: December 8th, 2010 at 8:56 am

tron_the_big_lebowski_shirt_mashup_slice_01

A brilliant friend of mine joked on Twitter last week that because of his busy schedule, he would need to combine his December Jeff Bridges films into one fantastic flick called “True Grid”.  Artist image “spacemonkeydr” over at TeeFury has switched out True Grit for The Big Lebowski in his Tron mash-up, but I don’t have a clever title for what that movie would be called.  However, if–according to the TRON: Legacy tagline–”The Game Has Changed”, then I imagine that they’ll be playing with light balls and light pins as they try to get the score light strikes.  As Program Walter might say, “Fuck it, Dude.  Let’s go light bowling.”

Hit the jump to check out the shirt, which costs $9 and is available for purchase today onlyTRON: Legacy opens December 17th.  True Grit opens December 22nd.  True Grid opens in my awesome dreams every night.

Wear This: LOST T-Shirt Finds Its Constant…and a DeLorean

by     Posted: May 18th, 2010 at 5:02 am

Despite being a huge Lost fan, I’ve never bought a Lost-related t-shirt in all of the show’s six seasons.  That changed today as TeeFury released an amazing t-shirt featuring Faraday, Desmond, and a DeLorean.  The image on the shirt makes it look like Desmond and Faraday are about to travel through time to fight crime.  Even if Lost screws the pooch in the final episodes, I know that in terms of the show’s overall run, Faraday was great, Desmond was great, and Back to the Future is an all-time great.

Click over to TeeFury to get yours.  It’s only $9 (plus $2 shipping) and it’s only available today.  Hit the jump to see a full image of the shirt.
