Eric Stonestreet and Wentworth Miller Join Indie Thriller LOFT

Eric Stonestreet is a scene stealer on ABC’s Modern Family but he’s about to made a radical departure as he’s in final negotiations to star in the dark indie thriller LoftVariety reports that Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) is also set to join the film, “which follows five married friends who share a loft where each of them bring their mistresses. When the body of an unknown woman is found in the loft, they begin to suspect one another of murder.”  As we reported back in February, the film also stars Patrick Wilson and James Marsden.  This cast and premise offers the possibility for a tight, claustrophobic thriller…or it could end up like 2006′s disappointing Unknown (as opposed to 2011′s disappointing Unknown).  Screenwriter Wesley Strick (the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street) adapted Bart De Pauw’s original screenplay for the 2008 Belgian film of the same name.  Erik Van Looy directed that film and will return to helm the remake.

While I’ll be interested in seeing Stonestreet in such a different role from Modern Family‘s Cam, he’ll next be seen in the R-rated comedy Bad Teacher and the family film The Muppets.  As for Miller, he’s signed on to the indie drama Analog.  He also wrote the script Stoker, which will be directed by Chan-wook Park (Oldboy).

Wentworth Miller Goes ANALOG

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 15th, 2011 at 9:13 am

Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) will star in the indie drama Analog.  Per Variety, “Story follows an introverted genius who tries to find a love connection in an increasingly digital world.”  Mike Million will direct from his own screenplay, which landed on 2005′s Black List (the list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood).  The $3 million picture is expected to begin shooting in Michigan this summer.

Miller is also a Black List alum, with his script for Stoker landing on 2010′s list.  That film is now in pre-production with Chan Wook-Park (Oldboy) at the helm, and Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, and Mia Wasikowska attached to star.  As far as acting jobs, Miller was last seen in theaters in Resident Evil: Afterlife.

Liam McIntyre to Star in SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND

Last October we heard lead actor Andy Whitfield has dropped out of the Starz epic series Spartacus: Blood and Sand in order to receive more treatment for his Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Prison Break star Wentworth Miller might step in to replace him. But today Starz announced Australian actor Liam McIntyre (The Pacific) will be stepping into Whitfield’s titular role for the series’ second season which finds Spartacus and his fellow gladiators now out of Capua and engaged in the massive slave rebellion against Roman society that has echoed through time.

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht commented on the recasting, “Since no one can really replace Andy, we realized that we should instead find an actor who can truly lead Spartacusforward. It was important to us to have Andy endorse the idea of recasting this part, which he did in the same heroic manner that he’s dealt with his whole ordeal. And that, coupled with our fortune in finding a young actor with the gladiator credentials and the acting ability of Liam, makes it easier for us to keep this hit franchise going.”

2010 Black List Top 10 Announced; A List of the Best “Unproduced” Screenplays in Hollywood

The 2010 Black List has been announced.  For those who don’t know, the Black List is a list of the best “unproduced” screenplays in Hollywood.  I put “unproduced” in quotations because some of these screenplays are in various stages of production.  For instance, College Republicans (formerly Young Republicans) has Shia LaBeouf and Paul Dano circling the project while Safe House has Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds on board.  J.C. Chandor’s script (which he also directed) Margin Call is the furthest along of the Top 10 as it’s already set to premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

OLDBOY Director Park Chan-Wook in Talks for STOKER; Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster Confirmed to Star

South Korean writer/director Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) is in talks to make his English-language debut with Stoker.  Based on a script from actor Wentworth Miller (Resident Evil: Afterlife), Stoker centers on “the story of an eccentric teen whose enigmatic and estranged uncle who returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father.”

Last we checked, Carey Mulligan (Never Let Me Go) and Jodie Foster were in negotiations to star.  Their involvement has been confirmed, and it is suggested that Fox Searchlight seeks a similarly high profile name to fill the male lead, the “estranged uncle.”  More after the jump.

Wentworth Miller Stepping in to Lead SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND?

In case you weren’t already aware, lead actor Andy Whitfield has dropped out of the Starz epic series Spartacus: Blood and Sand in order to receive more treatment for his Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It’s been up in the air as to whether or not the series would simply come to an end, or if Whitfield would be replaced, but now EW brings word that Starz is moving forward with the series and re-casting his role. Who’s strapping on the sandals? Apparently Prison Break star Wentworth Miller has expressed interest in taking over the titular role of the series. Since Fox’s prison escape series ended, Miller hasn’t done anything on television, so now would be a good time to make his return. A bit disappointing the Whitfield isn’t returning under the circumstances so we wish him well and hope for a quick recovery. We’ll keep you posted as this story develops. What do you Spartacus fans think of Wentworth Miller in the role?

Our partners at Omelete have premiered a new minute long trailer/extended commercial for writer/director Paul W.S. Comic-Con 2010 Celebrity Images

Just when you think it can’t possibly get any bigger, the annual San Diego Comic-Con manages to do just that. The exponentially growing number of attendees and non-comic book related attractions doesn’t deter it from being one of the biggest draws of the summer for fans of superheroes, sci-fi, action-adventure and all things vampire. Over the last couple of years, people have even decided to camp out on the street under tents, for a better chance to catch a glimpse of the A-list actors and filmmakers that film Hall H with their upcoming blockbusters.

While I understand that Comic-Con ended on July 25th, I went straight into attending the Television Critics Association Press Tour, where I’ve been every day since, and I haven’t had any time to post these until now. But, I got so many great photos of the folks that I interviewed that, even though Comic-Con ended awhile ago, I think the photos are still of interest.

Throughout my stay at Comic-Con, I took photos of Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds, Ali Larter & Wentworth Miller from Resident Evil: Afterlife, Chloe Grace Moretz & Kodi Smit-McPhee from Let Me In, the stars of Sons of Anarchy, the cast of Psych, Amber Heard & Nicolas Cage from Drive Angry 3D, Anna Torv & Joshua Jackson from Fringe, Maggie Q & Lyndsy Fonseca from Nikita, Daniel Dae Kim & Grace Park from Hawaii Five-0, Denis O’Hare from True Blood, filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro, the cast of the U.K. series Being Human, Elisabeth Shue & Steven McQueen from Piranha 3-D, the cast of The Vampire Diaries, Jensen Ackles from Supernatural, the stars of Castle, Jeff Bridges & Bruce Boxleitner with the new co-stars of Tron: Legacy, and Bruce Willis, Karl Urban & Helen Mirren from RED. Ali Larter Interview RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE 3D

by Christina Radish    Posted: August 3rd, 2010 at 11:06 am

In the last Resident Evil film, Alice (Milla Jovovich) met a survivor of the virus infection, named Claire Redfield (Ali Larter). In the fourth installment of the franchise, Claire has found a way to survive the very traumatic experience she went through, but she has lost some of her memory and is trying to figure out who she can trust again. There is even the introduction of Claire’s brother from the video games, which presents even more issues, as she figures out if he is who he is.

While at Comic-Con, actress Ali Larter spoke at a roundtable about how much she loves doing action and stunts, what it was like to work with the 3D technology and how much fun it is to play such strong women. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

SDCC 2010: Wentworth Miller Interview RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE; Plus Updates on STOKER and UNCLE CHARLIE

by Christina Radish    Posted: August 3rd, 2010 at 10:00 am

Wentworth Miller is the latest actor to join the Resident Evil franchise. In the latest installment, Resident Evil: Afterlife, he plays Chris Redfield, brother to Claire (Ali Larter) and a character straight out fo the popular video games. Unfamiliar with the video game when he was cast, he made sure to do his research and see what the fan expectation was for the character, before developing the character for himself.

While at Comic-Con, Wentworth Miller spoke at a roundtable about being a fan of the genre and his excitement in joining such an internationally successful franchise. He also talked about the writing projects that he’s developing – a feature film called Stoker, that’s part horror film, part family drama and part psychological thriller, all wrapped in one, along with its prequel, Uncle Charlie. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Fox Searchlight, Carey Mulligan, and Jodie Foster Fancy Wentworth Miller Scripts STOKER and UNDER CHARLIE

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: July 20th, 2010 at 5:27 pm

Wentworth Miller image slice (1)

There is a certain air of skepticism that surrounds an actor who fancies himself a writer.  But Prison Break star Wentworth Miller has found a way around that, in theory.  When he wrote the family drama Stoker and the prequel Under Charlie, he reportedly slapped the pseudonym “Ted Foulke” on the title page.  Last we checked, Stoker seemed to be housed exclusively at Fox Searchlight, with Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster attached to star.  The latest report suggests Fox Searchlight is merely “in talks to acquire both scripts” at this stage, and they aren’t the only studio.  More after the jump:

Carey Mulligan in Talks to Star in STOKER; Jodie Foster to Possibly Co-Star

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 28th, 2010 at 9:19 am

Carey Mulligan (An Education) is in negotiations to star in Fox Searchlight’s Stoker, which was written by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller.  According to 24 Frames, “Stoker tells of an eccentric teenager whose enigmatic and estranged uncle returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father.”  Searchlight is also in talks with a various other parties, including Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free Productions to produce, and with Jodie Foster to co-star.  24 Frames notes that Scott Free is geared more towards mainstream commercial fare, but recently went outside their comfort zone by working with the low-budget comedy Cyrus.

Mulligan was previously rumored to play the female lead in David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and she’s also in talks to star in Sam Mendes’ On Chesil Beach.  The Oscar-nominated actress will next be seen in theaters this September in Olive Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and in October in Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go.

A few days ago we posted the second trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: Afterlife.  The trailer we posted was low quality as it had been recorded off a TV broadcast.  Thankfully, an HD version has been released and you can check it out after the jump.

For more Resident Evil: Afterlife coverage, here’s my set visit and on set interviews with Ali Larter, Milla Jovovich, Wentworth Miller and Writer/Director Paul W.S. Anderson.  Finally, while a lot of movies have been converted to 3D in post production, Resident Evil: Afterlife was shot with they same cameras that James Cameron used on Avatar - which means it’s going to look very cool in 3D.
