During a recent interview for his take on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, Joss Whedon also fielded some questions on comics-related projects. At the forefront of that discussion was the upcoming ABC series Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D., but The Avengers director also addressed his consulting work for Marvel and just how the eventual stand-alone Hulk movie could work. Whedon also commented on films in the DC universe, including his work on a Wonder Woman feature and just how far he progressed with it. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

As you can see from the above image, not everyone who’s historically been in DC’s Justice League will make it into Warner Bros. Justice League in 2015. The only confirmed creative type on the picture is screenwriter Will Beall (Gangster Squad) as no director or cast is in place yet, but it looks as if we might have a solid core of characters we can expect to see on screen. We posted an extensive list of possible superheroes a couple of weeks ago, along with the rumors of the movie’s villain and source material. That list has been whittled down considerably. Hit the jump to see who made the cut, who missed out and who might pop up as a cameo.

As part of The CW portion of the TCA Press Tour, network president Mark Pedowitz took some time to discuss current programming, upcoming series and shows in various development stages. During the interview, he talked about how The Carrie Diaries came about, what attracted the network to Cult, the genesis for the possible The Vampire Diaries spin-off about the Originals (with Joseph Morgan and Phoebe Tonkin, and set in New Orleans), that The Selection and Wonderland are still in pilot contention, how the Wonder Woman project Amazon is progressing, their interest in other DC Comics characters, that they are no longer pursuing a Battle Royale series, and how they feel about current shows Supernatural, Beauty and the Beast, Nikita and Hart of Dixie. What can we confirm about Warner Bros.’ Justice League so far? We know Zack Snyder (director of Man of Steel) has a lot to say about how his film fits into the Justice League universe, and that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises) is reportedly not set to play Batman in the picture. Other than that, we know Will Beall (Gangster Squad) is writing the screenplay which will feature Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash and other heroes. But who will these heroes unite against, exactly? Will it be an army of faceless evildoers, much like the Chitauri in The Avengers? Not likely, since the Marvel sequel will be opening the same year as the DC picture and The Avengers 2 already has a Mad Titan in Thanos. So who in the DC universe could possibly be more powerful? New details have emerged for the joint production of Amazon, a Wonder Woman origin series from The CW, Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics. When we first reported on the pilot, it was in the early development stage, with a previous live-action Wonder Woman TV series failing just the year before. Now, with the success of The CW’s Green Arrow series, Arrow, it’s looking more likely that a young Amazonian princess will find her way to television. Warner Bros. TV has reportedly hired a casting director in search of someone to play the lead role, as they are anticipating a pilot pickup. Written by Allan Heinberg, Amazon is a fish-out-of-water series that has has shades of Tarzan as it centers on a young Amazonian named Iris who learns to develop her superpowers. The long-delayed re-imagining of Red Dawn is finally hitting theaters over the Thanksgiving holiday. When the citizens of a city in Washington state find themselves the prisoners under enemy occupation by North Korea, a group of young patriots become determined to fight back, and band together to protect one another and take back their freedom. From director Dan Bradley, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
At the film’s press day, actress Adrianne Palicki – who plays the tough, no-nonsense Toni – spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how excited she is that audiences will finally have a chance to see the film, going through a similar delay with the G.I. Joe sequel, how her Red Dawn training compared to her G.I. Joe: Retaliation training, how devastating the whole Wonder Woman experience was for her (with the TV show getting ordered to series and then having the plug pulled), working with co-star Chris Hemsworth, how she related to her character, and her thoughts on the possible Friday Night Lights movie. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

Though a TV iteration of Wonder Woman failed to make it to series just last year, it looks like the character might be returning to the airwaves sooner rather than later. David E. Kelley filmed a Wonder Woman pilot for NBC early last year, but the network decided to pass on the project after getting a look at the full episode. Now it appears that the character could be resurrected on a more superhero-friendly network: The CW.
A Green Arrow TV series called Arrow debuts on The CW this fall and the network was home to the Superman origin series Smallville, and now it looks like they’re eyeing a similarly origin-centered approach to the Wonder Woman character. Hit the jump for more.

With the conclusion of Christopher Nolan‘s Batman trilogy, the future of DC Comics movies is entirely up in the air right now. DC and Warner Bros’ next step in the gameplan is Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot Man of Steel, which must fight through the general disappointment created by the last reboot, Superman Returns. That’s nothing compared to Green Lantern, which rode a 26% Rotten Tomatoes score to squeak past $200 million worldwide. But hey, at least they have movies: Wonder Woman and The Flash are left out in the cold, and Aquaman may only be a viable superhero in the Hollywood fantasy of Entourage.
DC’s rival Marvel spent years carefully assembling their stable of heroes, culminating in the smash success of The Avengers. It seems DC is going to cut through the Gordian knot and skip straight to Justice League after Man of Steel, and use that to introduce the new era of DC movies. More after the jump.

You read the headline right: Warner Bros. is reportedly eying Ben Affleck (Gone Baby Gone) to helm Justice League, DC and WB’s answer to Marvel/Disney’s The Avengers. Affleck is expected to enter discussion with the studio higher-ups within the next few days. So far, he’s the only candidate who has received the script from Gangster Squad scribe, Will Beall. Affleck has also set a recent precedent of directing films he also stars in, which may mean that we’ll be seeing him on screen in some capacity, whether super-suited or not. Hit the jump for much more on this developing story, along with a possible role for Affleck in an upcoming film which has long been in development at Warner Bros. I recently had the absolute pleasure to interview voice actors Tara Platt (Naruto) and Yuri Lowenthal (Ben 10) for their ongoing web series, Shelf Life. The hilarious series features Platt and Lowenthal, along with Travis Willingham and Bryan Enk/ Dee Bradley Baker, as four action figures confined to a little boy’s shelf. When the kid isn’t around, Hero Lass, Hero Man, Bug Boy and Samurai Snake get up to all sorts of hijinks that are definitely not intended to entertain children. Hero Lass develops a drug addiction, Hero Man and Bug Boy deal with varying masculinity complexes and the mysterious Samurai Snake may or may not be planning global domination. The series, currently in its third season, is kicking off a fundraising campaign to allow the characters to go “off the shelf” in their ambitious fourth season. Hit the jump for my extended interview with Platt and Lowenthal, where they talk Shelf Life, Comic-Con, tips on getting into voice acting and much, much more!

Warner Bros. injects some much-needed life into their Justice League feature by tapping scribe, Will Beall (Gangster Squad). Clearly, after Disney and Marvel’s The Avengers put a superheroic dent into 2012′s box office, the studio behind the DC version would like to do the same. Beall has yet to turn in his draft, but the studio has shown strong faith in the screenwriter, having attached him to their reboot of Lethal Weapon and their remake of Logan’s Run. The latter will reunite Gangster Squad’s Ryan Gosling with his Drive director, Nicolas Winding Refn. Hit the jump for more on this exciting news for Justice League and to find out who is writing the Wonder Woman screenplay.

With director Steven Soderbergh’s spy-action pic Haywire opening this weekend, I recently got to speak with most of the cast to talk about making the movie. Starring MMA fighter Gina Carano as a burned spy who takes revenge against her handlers, Haywire also stars Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Angarano, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, and Bill Paxton. I’ve seen Haywire twice now and it’s fantastic. On top of Carano’s star-making performance, the action scenes are some of the best I’ve seen in years. It’s absolutely something you should see in a theater.
During my interview with Carano we talked about how she went from being an MMA fighter to getting cast in a Soderbergh film, what was the hardest stunt and what made her the most nervous, and deleted scenes. In addition, as some of you may have already seen, after watching Haywire the second time all I could think about was how Carano should play Wonder Woman. So while I usually start off my interviews asking a karaoke question, with this one, I started with what she thought of Wonder Woman and if anyone had asked her to play the part yet. Hit the jump to watch.

There’s no need to keep searching for the right actress, Warner Bros.; Gina Carano is Wonder Woman. While you might think I’m joking around….I’m not. That’s because after watching director Steven Soderbergh’s awesome spy-action pic Haywire twice, I really believe Carano is who you’re looking for. After everyone gets the chance to see her kick ass next week (the pic opens January 20), I’m extremely confident that fandom will agree with me. Hire a new writer to craft a script with Carano in mind; they’ll be inspired. I think one of the reasons Wonder Woman hasn’t come together is you didn’t know who to cast. Thankfully, the search is over.
Being serious, after watching Haywire the second time, I kept thinking Carano would be great as Wonder Woman and it was on my mind when I sat down to talk to her a few days ago. While I usually start with my karaoke question, I decided to ask what she thought of Wonder Woman and if anyone had asked her to play the part yet. Watch what she had to say after the jump.
