The first trailer has been released for director Josh Boone’s comedy/drama Stuck in Love.  Formerly titled Writers, the film stars Greg Kinnear as a famous novelist obsessed with his ex-wife (Jennifer Connelly) even though he’s sleeping with his friend Tricia (Kristen Belly), who’s trying to help him get over his ex.  The story also follows Kinnear’s daughter (Lily Collins), who is being pursued by a fellow writing student (Logan Lerman) despite her promiscuity.  It’s tough to hone in on which story is the primary one in this trailer, but there’s a strong Crazy, Stupid, Love. vibe and the impressive ensemble cast is certainly promising.

Writers and neurosis, it’s like peanut butter and jelly. Oh sure, they can be separate, but chances are they are going to come together. That’s the wonderfully cracked world that = writer/director Josh Boone’s covers in his debut feature Writers. It’s about a family of writers, a successful father (Greg Kinnear) with a literary legacy, and his two children: Lily Collins’ a uber-cynical college student who just published her first novel about her sexual misadventures, and Nat Wolf’s struggling high schooler obsessed with Stephen King. Kinnear pays his children to keep diaries, which is ripe for reading and embarrassment and the absent mother (Jennifer Connolly) recently left the family in a painful divorce that scarred them all.

In Boone’s hands the loosely autobiographical material became a comedy of sadness, a tone helped in no small part by star Greg Kinnear. A former talk show host turned actor with a string of interesting work in films like As Good As It Gets, Auto Focus, Little Miss Sunshine, and Ghost Town, Kinnear has carved out a place for himself as a charmingly befuddled leading man equally capable of loosening his audience’s tear ducts and tickling their funny bones. Collider participated in a group interview with both the director and star shortly after the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, delving subjects like awkward autobiography, playing with big screen personas, and the difficulties associated with landing a Stephen King cameo. The line-up for the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival was announced this morning, and now we’re getting first images from some of the movies playing at the fest.  We now have the first looks at:

The line-up for this year’s Toronto International Film Festival has been announced and it is a doozy.  The festival will play host to some of the year’s biggest world premieres including Rian Johnson‘s Looper (which will be the festival’s opening night film), The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer‘s Cloud Atlas, Ben Affleck‘s Argo, David O. Russell‘s The Silver Linings Playbook, Derek Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines, Joss Whedon‘s Much Ado About Nothing, Noah Baumbach‘s Frances Ha, and Neil Jordan‘s Byzantium.  Films making their International/North American debuts (which means that they’ll like show up at the Venice Film Festival first) include Terrence Malick‘s To the Wonder, Joe Wright‘s Anna Karenina, Robert Redford‘s The Company You Keep, and Billy Bob Thornton‘s Jayne Mansfield’s Car.

Kristen Bell, Lily Collins, Logan Lerman, Nat Wolff, Liana Liberato have joined Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Connelly in Josh Boone‘s comedy-drama Writers.  Deadline reports that “the film follows the members of the Borgens family and their love interests over the course of one tumultuous year.”  Kinnear plays Bill Borgens, a famous novelist obsessed with ex-wife (Connelly) even though he’s sleeping with his friend Tricia (Bell), who’s trying to help him get over his ex.  Collins plays Bill’s daughter Samatha, who is being pursued by a fellow writing student (Lerman), and Samantha’s teenage brother (Wolff) is experiencing his first love with Kate (Liberato).  This is how they all became The Borgens Bunch.

Shooting will begin next week in North Carolina.  Boone wrote the script and will make his feature directing debut on the film.

In the indie crime drama Thin Ice, Mickey Prohaska (Greg Kinnear) is a small-time insurance agent looking for a way to make his business a success, reunite with his estranged wife (Lea Thompson) and escape the frigid Wisconsin weather. He believes that all he needs is a sucker who is willing to buy what he’s selling, and he seemingly finds that in a lonely retired farmer (Alan Arkin). But, Mickey’s attempt to con the old man suddenly has him crossing paths with a volatile locksmith (Billy Crudup), and everything starts to spin out of control.

At the film’s press day, actor Greg Kinnear talked about making a film with a twist ending, how he spent time selling cable television subscriptions door-to-door when he was in college, and how challenging the extreme cold in Minnesota was for the shoot. He also talked about what enticed him to do an episode of the ABC comedy series Modern Family, and said that his next project will likely be Writers, a dramedy about a family of writers, co-starring Jennifer Connelly. Negotiations are underway for Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream) and Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine) to star in the indie drama, Writers. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Josh Boone who also wrote the original screenplay. The plot of Writers centers on the familial relationships between a well-established novelist (Kinnear), his ex-wife (Connelly) and their children: a college-age daughter and teenage son. THR reports that Judy Cairo (Crazy Heart) of Informant Media will produce the project. Her upcoming works include Hysteria, starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hugh Dancy and Jonathan Pryce and The Expatriate, starring Olga Kurylenko and Aaron Eckhart.
