You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger

YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER Blu-ray Review

by Harrison Pierce    Posted: February 13th, 2011 at 7:03 am

I take great comfort in the fact that moviegoers are flocking to see Black Swan, The Fighter and The King’s Speech right now. Hollywood loves to proclaim the adult drama dead, but all three R-Rated films are quickly on their way toward a $100 Million gross. Perhaps this is owing to awards season hype and filmgoers’ desire to feel part of the Oscar race, but whatever the reason, it’s encouraging to see films made for people other than teenage fanboys succeed. Now, if only viewers would partake in well made adult films that fall outside the awards season calendar. Then, they might not have missed September’s endearing and entertaining You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.  My review after the break:

Trailer for Woody Allen’s YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 20th, 2010 at 10:48 am

A very weak trailer for Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger has gone online.  It’s clearly a movie about intersecting romantic entanglements, but the even the narration seems bored with the premise.  The thing to know about a Woody Allen film at this point is that there’s going to be one per year, every year.  It will feature respected and talented actors.  However, Allen’s output at this point is the definition of hit-or-miss.  Sadly, this trailer makes it look like Allen’s new movie falls into the “miss” pile.  But even at film #45, Allen’s still making interesting movies that are worth checking out even if they don’t seem to come close to his celebrated work in the 1970s (although my favorite Allen film, The Purple Rose of Cairo, came out in 1985).

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The respected and talented cast includes Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, Antonio Banderas, Gemma Jones, Freida Pinto, Lucy Punch, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, and Anthony Hopkins. You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger opens on September 22nd.

Josh Brolin Exclusive Video Interview JONAH HEX; Also Talks MEN IN BLACK 3, TRUE GRIT, More

Josh Brolin Jonah Hex video interview image slice

With the amount of coverage we’ve given Jonah Hex over the past few months (my set report and on set interviews with Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, and Director Jimmy Hayward), I’d like to think you know what the movie is about and who’s in it.  But for the three people that don’t, watch these movie clips and read the synopsis.

Anyway, the other day I got to sit down with Josh Brolin for a new interview and it turned out great as Brolin is super cool and willing to talk about anything. During interview he talked about why he wanted to play Jonah Hex, what the past year has been like for him as he’s been working nonstop on films like Wall Street 2, Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, the Coen Brothers True Grit, and he even told me why he wanted to be in Men in Black 3.  It’s really a great interview so check it out after the jump:

There hasn’t been a year without a Woody Allen movie in theaters since 1981 (seriously), and this year’s is the Cannes-bound You Will Meet a Tall Dark StrangerAllocine has several on-set photos and a clip in which we see cast members Naomi Watts and Antonio Banderas try their hand at Allen’s stuttering dialogue.  The impressive lineup also includes Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Freida Pinto, and Anna Friel in the story of “different members of a family, their tangled love lives, and their attempts to try and solve their problems.”

As the logline isn’t too helpful, you’ll find Watts’s comments alongside the photos and the clip after the break.

Woody Allen Reveals Detail on His Next Film, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS

In a rare move, Woody Allen has revealed details on his upcoming film, Midnight in Paris.  Allen usually remains secretive on his projects until they’re in the can, but today he announced [via Variety] that Midnight in Paris is “a romantic comedy that follows a family traveling to the city for business, including a young engaged couple that has their lives transformed throughout the journey. The film celebrates a young man’s great love for Paris, and simultaneously explores the illusion people have that a life different from their own is better.”

The film has a diverse cast of actors including Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Carla Bruni, Michael Sheen, Nina Arianda, Tom Hiddleston, Corey Stoll, Mimi Kennedy, and Kurt Fuller.  Filming is set to begin this summer in Paris.  Allen’s new film, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, will debut out of competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.  It will be released domestically this fall.

Line-Up for the 2010 Cannes Film Festival Includes Oliver Stone and Woody Allen, but No Terrence Malick

There are plenty of films at this year’s Cannes Film Festival that you’ll curse the heavens you’re not able to go.  However, there’s one big glaring omission: Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life.  There was heavy speculation that the film would make its long-awaited premiere at the festival, but presumably the ambitious sci-fi film starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn wasn’t ready in time.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t other noteworthy films.  Cannes is a great time to get a heads-up on a films although they may not be the finished product (a longer version of Inglourious Basterds premiered at last year’s festival to mixed reviews).  This year’s films to watch are Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Biutiful, Doug Liman’s Fair Game, Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, and Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.  Of course, the most-acclaimed films may turn out to be the ones currently flying under the radar.

Hit the jump for this year’s full line-up.  The 2010 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 12-23.

Woody Allen Snags Rachel McAdams for Next Film

by David Corbin    Posted: March 4th, 2010 at 7:15 am

rachel_mcadams_image__1_.jpgRachel McAdams is set to engage in a storied Hollywood tradition-appearing in a Woody Allen film.  THR is reporting that McAdams has signed on to co-star in the famed director’s next project. Production of the still untitled film is to begin this summer, likely with a 2011 release date in mind.  As we reported earlier, the movie already boasts Owen Wilson and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.  Aside from a French setting, details on the film are being kept on a need-to-know basis. In the meantime, Allen’s next film You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger has just been acquired by Sony Pictures Classics and should be hitting theaters before too long.  On the McAdams side of things, she will co-star alongside Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton in the J.J. Abrams-produced comedy Morning Glory.

Sony Pictures Classics to Release Woody Allen’s YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American theatrical rights to Woody Allen’s next film, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.  The movie stars Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Freida Pinto and Naomi Watts.  While not much is known about the film, the rumor is it revolves around different members of a family and their attempts to solve their individual problems.

Woody Allen gave this statement about working with SPC:

“I love working with Michael Barker and Tom Bernard and I know my films are in good hands with them.”

SPC released Whatever Works last summer and Sweet and Lowdown in 1999.

You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger is produced by Letty Aronson, Steve Tenenbaum and Jaume Roures. It is financed by Mediapro, the Spain-based company which also funded Vicky Cristina Barcelona.  The film was shot in London in August 2009.

Marion Cotillard to Join Owen Wilson and First Lady Carla Bruni in Woody Allen’s Next Movie

Marion Cotillard Public Enemies image (1).jpg

Already very close to landing Owen Wilson for what one would have to assume would be the lead male role in his next movie to shoot in France, Woody Allen is also now apparently about to snare an incredibly beautiful leading lady to join him.

Deadline first reported that Marion Cotillard is about to sign on for this, meaning she would join French First Lady Carla Bruni in the as-yet-untitled flick. Details are scant so far as to what it just might be about – so far all I’ve seen is that it will be a “romantic drama” and shoot this summer. Allen can certainly be hit or miss of late, but Vicky Cristina Barcelona stands in my book as one of his best, so he surely has a few good movies left in him, and with this cast, I’m betting this will eventually be one of them..

Hit the jump to find out what Allen has cooking in London with a whole lot of stars in the meantime.

Owen Wilson Signs on to Star in Woody Allen Movie

by Keith Demko    Posted: February 19th, 2010 at 10:18 am

After decades of turning to the world’s most beautiful women as his inspiration, RiskyBiz reports that Woody Allen is now following up his work with Larry David by signing Owen Wilson as one of the main stars of his new, as-yet-untitled movie.

That doesn’t mean, however, that there still won’t be at least one beauty on the set when this shoots this summer. Oddly enough, France’s first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, has revealed that she too would be in the movie, though Allen’s camp hasn’t confirmed that.

Even though I found Whatever Works, Allen’s work with the usually incredibly funny David, to be an almost complete disaster, with the right material, Wilson would seem to have the dry sort of wit Allen can certainly tap into (or at least he used to in Wes Anderson flicks like Bottle Rocket and The Royal Tenenbaums.)

Definitely keep your eyes on this one, and hit the jump to find out what else Allen and Wilson will be up to in the meantime.

Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins and Naomi Watts WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER in Woody Allen’s Next Film

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the name of Woody Allen’s next movie is “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger,” so thanks for giving that away, Woody.  I go into movies trying not to know who I will meet and you give it away in the title.  Good going, funny boy.  Once you move past the spoiler-alert, you have an interesting cast of Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, and Naomi Watts.  I wouldn’t put those actors together off the top of my head but Allen could assemble any group of actors he wants because no one turns down an opportunity to work with Woody Allen.  Well, except for Nicole Kidman, but ever since 2002, her choice in projects has been tremendous.

“You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” co-stars Gemma Jones, Freida Pinto and Lucy Punch.  The film revolves around different members of a family, their tangled love lives and their attempts to try to solve their problems.  And since it’s a Woody Allen film, that’s all you get to know.  The movie is slated to hit theaters in Fall 2010.
