Now that Youth in Revolt is out on Blu-ray, hopefully it’ll begin to accumulate the cult following it deserves. Based on the popular book of the same name by C.D. Payne, it features an awesome cast including Michael Cera, Zach Galifianakis, Fred Willard, Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta and others in the tale of youthful rebellion. Think of it as Fight Club meets Dawson’s Creek, but without the twist and way less lame. The disc itself isn’t exactly exciting but it’ll suffice for a film that will surely get multiple plays. Hit the jump for more.

By now you know that James Cameron’s Avatar has become the second highest-grossing movie of all-time with a worldwide total of $1.175 BILLION and counting. Friday estimates put Avatar at $13.3 million – a 47% drop over New Year’s Day. This is the kind of drop that you would expect to see on Day 8, however, not on the 22nd. Even with three new releases out in theatres, Avatar still had no real completion for America’s discretionary dollars. Lionsgate’s vampire drama Daybreakers was a distant second with $5.8 million while with $3.3 million the romantic comedy Leap Year just made the top five. Meanwhile, TWC’s long-awaited adaptation of Youth in Revolt didn’t embarrass itself with $2.7 million from 1,873 theatres. Full details on this week’s releases when you check back tomorrow.
| Title | Friday | Total | |
| 1 | Avatar | $13,300,000 | $393.8 |
| 2 | Daybreakers | $5,800,000 | $5.8 |
| 3 | Sherlock Holmes | $5,100,000 | $153.7 |
| 4 | Alvin & the Chipmunks 2 | $3,500,000 | $165.3 |
| 5 | Leap Year | $3,300,000 | $3.3 |

After you see Youth in Revolt this Friday (and you should because it’s hilarious), you’ll be dispelled of any notion that Michael Cera can only play shy, mild-manner characters. His alter-ego in the film, Francois Dillinger is a character folks wouldn’t normally expect from Cera and that expectation helps make him even funnier.
But Cera’s always had this kind of range. While I would like to direct you to his YouTube video “Impossible is the Opposite of Possible” and his web-series “Clark and Michael” (co-starring Clark Duke), I believe this clip Cera showed on Late Night with David Letterman will demonstrate that most folks don’t know his true power. And that true power is he can kill you with his mind. Hit the jump to check out the video.

Canadian actor Michael Cera made his first major impact on American comedy audiences with his role as teenager George Michael Bluth on the cult TV comedy Arrested Development. Since then, he has gone on to memorable roles in such films as Year One, Superbad and Juno, each time bringing his unique brand of comedy to his performance. In his latest film, Youth in Revolt, he takes on two characters, aspiring novelist and nice guy Nick Twisp, and man of action Francois Dilinger.
Along with talking about the experience of playing a dual role at the film’s press day, Michael Cera also previewed what it was like for him to play an action hero in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and updated the status of the Arrested Development feature film. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Though Michael Cera is now 22 rather than the 16 or so he’s supposed to be in Youth in Revolt, all signs are that he and the movie are still going to be extremely funny.
For anyone unfamiliar with the book by C.D. Payne, a word of warning: It, and often the five short Comedy Central vignettes starring Michael Cera on the jump, can be very vulgar. It is, after all, about a 14-year-old who creates an alter ego – Francois Dillinger – with the simple mission of scoring with the love of his life (I’m assuming they made our hero, Nick Twisp, a couple of years older for the movie.)
However, if you can handle some crude jokes about masturbation and Zach Galifianakis’ fitness for parenting, hit the jump to see the five clips.

If you’re a regular reader of Collider, you already know I thought Youth in Revolt was great. I saw it at this year’s Toronto Film Festival and afterwards recorded a video blog with Peter from Slashfilm. I also posted a video interview with Michael Cera and director Miguel Arteta, and Matt recently posted an article on the awesome red band trailer. What I’m trying to say is…it’s a film you should be excited for as Michael Cera finally shows he can play more than Michael Cera. In fact, in Youth in Revolt, we get to see the evil Michael Cera as he creates a “supplementary persona” named Francois Dillinger to do the many bad things needed to win his dream girl. Trust me, you’ve never seen Michael Cera act like this.
So to help raise awareness, the Weinstein Company has released a new clip and poster. I strongly suggest watching the red band trailer if you haven’t seen it…but the new clip is also nice. Youth in Revolt hits theaters January 8th.

Funny or Die has debuted the red band trailer for Miguel Arteta’s upcoming comedy Youth in Revolt starring Michael Cera. I know it’s a red band trailer because there’s an R-rated joke every ten seconds or so. They’re not bad but I don’t need this movie to be filthy to enjoy it. I’m already pretty excited for the flick especially since I’ve heard highly positive things about it from those who have seen it (including Steve who thought it was great). For those who don’t know, the movie is about Nick Twisp (Cera), an 18-year old high school student who goes on a quest to lose his virginity after his parent’s breakup. He does this by creating a “supplementary persona” named Francois Dillinger who can inspire the bad-ass behavior Nick needs to win his dream girl.
Check out the red band trailer after the jump along with a brief synopsis. The film co-stars Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi, Fred Willard, Ray Liotta, Jean Smart, Justin Long, and newcomer Portia Doubleday. Youth in Revolt hits theaters on January 8, 2010.

The upcoming Michael Cera comedy Youth in Revolt has a new trailer and you should watch the original trailer to remain positive about the film. It has a good premise: Nick Twisp (Cera) is an 18-year old high school student who goes on a quest to lose his virginity to Sheeni (Portia Doubleday) by developing a “supplementary personality” named Francois who encourages Nick to break out of his timid nice-guy routine and be a bad ass who stands up for himself. Directed by Miguel Arteta (The Good Girl), the film co-stars Zach Galifianakis, Justin Long, Steve Buscemi, Jean Smart, and Ray Liotta.
Hit the jump to check out the new trailer and try to ignore Mr. Movie Voice. Youth in Revolt hits theaters on January 8, 2010.

A comedy starring John C. Reilly and Ed Helms? Yeah, I think I’m on board. THR is reporting that Reilly has signed on to co-star in “Cedar Rapids”, a comedy about a ” a wholesome and naive small-town Wisconsin man (Helms) who, when his role model dies, must represent his company at a regional insurance conference in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where his mind is blown by the big-town experience.” Reilly would also play a family man attending the conference but his character sees it as a chance to bust loose. Miguel Arteta is on board to direct which will take his mind off his previous film, “Youth in Revolt”, being unable to grab onto a release date.

Last week, at the Toronto Film Festival, I did interviews for the Weinstein Company’s “Youth in Revolt”. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because the film is based on the novel by C.D. Payne and it’s the story of Nick Twisp – a teen with a taste for the finer things in life like Sinatra and Fellini – and he’s played by Michael Cera. While the film is still many months from getting released (Jan 15th, 2010), I really enjoyed the film and want to start building some buzz….so I’m posting the interviews now. Also, there will probably be another press day closer to release, so these interviews would be very old
Anyway, after the jump you can watch my interview with Michael Cera and director Miguel Arteta. They talk about how they worked together to make the film, why Michael really wanted to be involved, and you can see Michael try and copy what’s written on my shirt. It’s a funny interview so take a look.

During the interview she talks about getting the part, making the movie, and how she got into acting.

The Weinstein Company has just announced they’re moving “Youth in Revolt” to January 15, 2010 from their previously announced October release date. While moving a release is sometimes the sign of a troubled film or production, I saw a screening a few days ago at the Toronto Film Festival and have to say…it’s a great movie. The film is based on acclaimed novel by C.D. Payne and it’s the story of Nick Twisp – a teen with a taste for the finer things in life like Sinatra and Fellini – and he’s played by Michael Cera. Actually, I posted a video blog about the movie yesterday where I sang the films praises. For more on the film and why it probably moved, hit the jump:

Peter (from Slashfilm) and I usually record our video blog’s in separate locations through the magic of the internet, but since we’re both attending this year’s Toronto Film Festival, we’ve decided to record some video blogs talking about some of the movies we’ve seen at the festival. We’ve tried to keep the video blogs short and to the point, but, as always, it sometimes goes longer than planned. But if you know us, that’s to be expected.
Anyway, after the jump you can watch Peter and I talk about the new Michael Cera movie “Youth in Revolt” and The Spierig Brothers vampire film “Daybreakers”. We liked both of the films, and you can find out why in the video blogs. Also, while some movies at the festival won’t hit theaters for another year, “Youth in Revolt” arrives in late October and “Daybreakers” hits theaters this January.

Once again, with the Toronto Film Festival set to begin in a few weeks, I’ve been provided with a ton of new images from the many films that are premiering at the festival. So rather than waste any time, after the jump take a look at new images “Jennifer’s Body”, “The Road” and “Youth in Revolt”. All three look like they could be really good.
