From the creators of Despicable Me comes the animated feature film adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, a beloved cautionary tale of environmental conservation wrapped up in a colorful children’s story. We’ve previously brought you images, trailers and even a Super Bowl ad spot for Chris Renaud and Kyle Balda’s The Lorax, which stars Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Ed Helms, Betty White and Danny DeVito. Now we have eight clips from the movie, which will mark Universal’s third Dr. Seuss feature after How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat. On what would have been the author’s 108th birthday, The Lorax will land in theaters on March 2nd. Hit the jump to check out the clips.

Universal has released new images from the 3D CGI adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. Some of the images show the actors doing their voice recordings. If you couldn’t imagine what Zac Efron would look like if he were in a sound booth and speaking into a microphone, your mind is about to be blown. There’s also an image of the Lorax (voiced by Danny DeVito) playing cards with woodland creatures instead of giving dire environmental warnings. There’s no time for games when the environment is on the line, Lorax.

The first poster for Lee Daniels‘ adaptation of The Paperboy has gone online along with a new poster for the action-comedy The Baytown Disco starring Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Mendes. I like the simplicity of the Paperboy poster as well as the throwback font. It doesn’t tell you much about the movie, but it does let us know that Zac Efron has really been working on his biceps.
The previous poster for The Baytown Disco was great but this new one is an overcrowded mess. Also, both posters use the term “whip-ass”, which I’ve never heard before. It seems like someone said the tagline should include the word “whoop-ass”, but spell-check wouldn’t accept it, so they had to go with “whip-ass”. Hit the jump to check out the posters. Both movies are due out in 2012.

The first trailer and poster have debuted for the drama The Lucky One. It’s a Nicholas Sparks adaptation starring Zac Efron with a song by The Fray blasting over the trailer, so you’re either squealing in excitement or reaching for a razor blade depending on your affinity for predictable romantic dramas. The film tells the story of a marine in the Iraq war who finds a photograph of a woman that brings him good luck while in combat. He then proceeds to stalk find her once he returns home. The movie looks pretty terrible, complete with every single character beat you’re expecting. The only mystery now, given that it’s a Sparks adaptation, is which one of them dies.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster. Directed by Scott Hicks, the film also stars Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner. The Lucky One opens April 20th, 2012.

A new trailer for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax has gone online. Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) the film is based on the childrens book by Dr. Seuss and tells the story of a boy searching for the one thing that will win him the girl of his dreams. In order to find it, he must learn the story of The Lorax, a creature whose world is in danger. This theatrical trailer delves pretty deep into the plot, and it looks as though the film will be taking the story a bit further than the book, focusing quite heavily on the boy’s exploits around town (ie. running from the “bad guys”). I’m really hoping the story’s environmental message doesn’t get lost in the silliness. Things have looked promising thus far, with some great visuals and charming work from DeVito, so I’m optimistic.

In Garry Marshall’s ensemble romantic comedy New Year’s Eve, an all-star cast celebrates love, hope, forgiveness and second chances, on a night in New York City that many see as the most magical of the year. While only some of the characters actually cross paths with each other, each individual seems to ultimately be searching for the connections that make their lives memorable and meaningful.
At a press conference to promote the film’s December 9th theatrical release, co-stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Hilary Swank, Josh Duhamel and Lea Michele talked about what attracted them to their roles, not putting so much pressure on that one day out of the year, their own New Year’s Eve plans, and what they drew on from their own lives, in bringing their characters to life. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

We’ve been provided with 12 clips from Garry Marshall’s upcoming romantic comedy New Year’s Eve to share with our readers. A featurette for the drama The Lucky One has gone online. It’s a bit odd, considering a trailer has yet to be unveiled, but the featurette itself plays like an extended trailer complete with talking head narration. The film is an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name and stars Zac Efron as a Marine in the Iraq war who finds a photograph of a smiling woman buried in the sand in Iraq that brings him good luck. Once he returns stateside, he sets out to find the woman. Sparks and Efron appear in the featurette talking about the story and Sparks’ popularity among teenage girls readers nationwide.
As for the movie, it looks exactly like you’d expect. It’s sure become a staple of the “Favorite Movies” portion of Facebook pages for girls age 7-17, and that’s okay; these kinds of movies obviously have their audiences. Directed by Scott Hicks, the film also stars Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner. Hit the jump to watch the featurette. The Lucky One opens April 20th, 2012.

With director Todd-Strauss-Schulson’s A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas opening this weekend, I recently got to speak with the cast and every day this week I’ll have a new interview. Up first is Thomas Lennon. As you might expect from Lennon, our conversation is all over the place and very funny.
During the interview, Lennon talked about how a KJ (Karaoke Jockey) saved his life in Las Vegas, how when people meet him all they want to talk about is Zac Efron, what was he able to add to A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, is Reno 911! really coming back, and what moments in the movie he couldn’t believe made it into the final release. The first trailer for The Lorax has gone online. Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me), the film is based on the classic Dr. Seuss enviromentally-conscious children’s book that centers on a boy who is searching for the one thing that will win him the girl of his dreams. In order to find it, he must learn the story of The Lorax, a creature whose world is in danger. As you’ll see in the trailer, there’s the unmistakable Suessian architecture and it certainly looks colorful enough. But there are little things in this trailer that are making me a bit nervous about the film. The framing device shows a bright and colorful world so the Once-ler chopping down all the trees hasn’t been too much of a problem. Also, while I understand it’s a family film that wants to play up the comedy, I hope the Lorax’s message won’t be diminished by making him a creature of fun rather than a bearer of grave warnings.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with ten high resolution images . The film features the voices of Danny DeVito, Zac Efron, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, Rob Riggle, and Betty White. The Lorax opens in 3D on March 2nd, 2012.

New posters have been released for The Rum Diary and New Year’s Eve. The former is kind of cute and almost makes the film look like a light comic spin on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which is appropriate considering that Hunter S. Thompson was the author of both novels. As for the New Year’s Eve poster, it perfectly encapsulates the cynical, greedy reason for the movie’s existence. The point isn’t to convey a plot, but to jam as many stars into the film as possible in the hopes that you’ll like one or two of them enough to see the movie. However, the stars you like will most likely be in the film for probably less than ten minutes total. If you think watching a star you like play a poorly defined character is worth a dollar a minute, then you like wasting money.
Hit the jump to check out the posters. The Rum Diary opens October 28th. New Year’s Eve opens December 9th.

We have a couple minor casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, Dougray Scott and Kara Tointon will lead Omid Nooshin’s low-budget thriller Last Passenger. Per THR, the film tells “the story of a doctor who finds himself on a runaway commuter train.” A runaway train is serious business and at the very least that doctor is going to be seriously inconvenienced. The film is part of Pinewood Shepperton’s investment fund for low-budgeted movies. With a budget slightly above £1.2 million ($2.5 million), Last Passenger will be co-financed by Future Film and the BFI Film Fund. According to THR, “Pinewood Shepperton is aiming to back four films a year from first-timers, with a combined budget of around $13 million.” Their first film is the Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell “psycho-comedy” A Fantastic Fear of Everything starring Simon Pegg.
Hit the jump for casting news on the next film from Ramin Bahrani (Goodbye Solo).

A new trailer for Garry Marshall’s star-studded New Year’s Eve has been released. This trailer isn’t much different from the first one in that it’s basically a montage of all the pretty celebrities and their separate stories set to pop music, though this new look does include inappropriate Abigail Breslin flashing. If you enjoyed Marshall’s Valentine’s Day, then you probably don’t need to be sold on the pseudo-sequel, and if the February-centered first film wasn’t your thing then this New Year’s Eve trailer is probably more than a little cringe-worthy. It looks like Seth Meyers may be the only saving grace for the brave boyfriends who are forced to soldier through this one.
The cast includes Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sarah Jessica Parker, Hilary Swank, Zac Efron, Sienna Miller, Lea Michele, Sofia Vergara, Abigail Breslin, Til Schweiger, Seth Meyers, Jon Bon Jovi, Josh Duhamel, and Carla Gugino. New Year’s Eve opens on December 9th. Hit the jump to watch the trailer.

The first trailer for Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve has been released. The follow-up to Valentine’s Day stars every actor ever in the history of acting, whom I can only assume will appear for five minutes of screen time each. The trailer is basically a montage of all the actors making their New Year’s preparations and yearning for somebody to love. Nothing groundbreaking, but if you were a fan of Valentine’s Day it’s a safe bet that this movie is probably your kind of thing.
The cast includes Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sarah Jessica Parker, Hilary Swank, Zac Efron, Sienna Miller, Lea Michele, Sofia Vergara, Abigail Breslin, Til Schweiger, Seth Meyers, Jon Bon Jovi, Josh Duhamel, and Carla Gugino. Seth Rogen and Zac Efron are now attached to star in an untitled comedy scripted by Andrew Cohen and Brendan O’Brien (producers on Funny People). The writers sold the R-rated pitch — described as similar in tone to Old School — to Universal tonight following a bidding war. Things reportedly came down to Universal and New Line. Universal paid a steep price to acquire the Rogen/Efron package: Cohen and O’Brien will earn 7 figures and Rogen will net more than $8 million as star/producer. Evan Goldberg (The Green Hornet) will produce with Rogen through their company Point Grey Pictures.
According to Deadline, Rogen will play “a regular guy who lives near an alpha male fraternity house.” Efron will play “a member of the fraternity, whose raucous behavior wreaks havoc on the other guy’s family life.” It’s definitely not the most obvious pairing. You could think of that as Rogen’s M.O. after Pineapple Express and The Green Hornet. (Or I may be reaching.) Ideally, the filmmakers can capitalize on the contrast, especially since both stars appear to be playing against type. I will always root for a movie created by a fellow Brendan.
