20th Century Fox has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller A Cure for Wellness. The film marks a return to smaller scale filmmaking for director Gore Verbinski, who helmed the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies and, most recently, The Lone Ranger. Based on an original idea by Verbinski and screenwriter Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road), the film stars Dane DeHaan as an ambitious young executive who is sent to the Swiss Alps to retrieve his company’s CEO from a mysterious “wellness center.” At the remote location, he soon realizes the spa’s treatments are not what they seem.

This looks like one hell of a creepy horror-thriller ("creepy af" as the kids say), and while the trailer doesn't really delve into the story, it sells the film's atmosphere wonderfully. Before Verbinski helmed the terrific Pirates trilogy (Dead Man's Chest and At World's End are good and I will fight whoever says different), he made a name for himself with the J-horror adaptation The Ring, which is one of the scariest films of the last two decades. He knows his way around this genre, and while he's been working in the big-budget adventure realm for quite some time—with a fantastic new Western classic called Rango thrown in for good measure—I'm mighty excited to see Verbinski back in the horror lane. Count me in.

Watch the Cure for Wellness trailer below. The film also stars Jason Isaacs and Mia Goth and opens in theaters on February 17, 2017.

Here’s the official synopsis for A Cure for Wellness:

An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company's CEO from an idyllic but mysterious "wellness center" at a remote location in the Swiss Alps.  He soon suspects that the spa's miraculous treatments are not what they seem.  When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure.  From Gore Verbinski, the visionary director of THE RING, comes the new psychological thriller, A CURE FOR WELLNESS.
