The day after Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain scored the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress titles from the National Board of Review, I got the opportunity to sit down with the pair to discuss their experience working on J.C. Chandor’s third feature, A Most Violent Year.  Isaac leads the film as Abel Morales, a devout business owner determined to make Standard Heating Oil the best in the industry.  Trouble is, this is New York City in 1981, the most dangerous year in the city’s history, so it won’t be easy to climb the ladder in a noble manner.

During our brief chat, Isaac and Chastain talked about the benefits of acting opposite someone you’ve known for years, what it’s like working with Chandor as an actor’s director, what they suppose the future might hold for Abel and Anna, and Chastain’s thoughts on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer.  Check it all out in the video interview below.  A Most Violent Year gets a nationwide expansion on January 30th.

Oscar Isaac & Jessica Chastain:

  • Working together for the first time after knowing each other for many years.
  • Working with the rather verbose J.C. Chandor.  (Check out his epic and especially thorough answers to my interview questions here.)
  • Where would Abel and Anna be today?
  • What did Chastain think about the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer?
