The parents of Elm Street have been keeping a terrible secret, and on April 30th that secret will be out, bursting into the nightmares of their children. That's right, Platinum Dunes' A Nightmare on Elm Street is only two short months away. I you've been following the development of this re-imagining/remake as close as we have, you may want to check out Steve's set visit report. Last night, the films producers treated all us fans of the Son of a Hundred Maniacs by posting a new trailer for the flick on myspace.
While the first trailer, gave us brief glimpses of Jackie Earl Haley as the undead, child-murderer Freddy Krueger, this new trailer is all about showing us the goods without over doing it. Not only we get a few tantalizing peeks at the new face of the dream demon, but we get several pieces of dialogue, including one line that is sure to live on as one of Freddy's greatest, and one hell of a creepy laugh. It's clear that this isn't a Freddy who jokes around, he's a sick bastard who's mad as hell and will gut you without a thought. From the footage we've seen, it's safe to say the Haley has something special for audiences when the film debuts. Until then...1,2, Freddy's coming for you...
Hit the jump to check out the trailer, the official synopsis, and then say a prayer.
For those just tuning in, here's the official synopsis:
Freddy Krueger returns in A Nightmare on Elm Street, a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape
Donning Freddy’s trademark fedora, red-and-green striped sweater, and four-bladed glove is Academy Award® nominee Jackie Earle Haley (“Little Children,” “Watchmen”). The film is being directed by award-winning music video and commercial director Samuel Bayer (Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”), marking his feature film debut.
The teens whose dreams are terrorized by Freddy Krueger are played by an ensemble of young actors, including Kyle Gallner (“The Haunting in Connecticut”), Katie Cassidy (“Taken,” TV’s “Supernatural”), Rooney Mara (“Urban Legend: Bloody Mary”), Thomas Dekker (“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”), and Kellan Lutz (“Twilight,” upcoming “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”). The supporting cast also includes veteran character actor Clancy Brown (“The Shawshank Redemption,” “Highlander”) and Connie Britton (“Friday Night Lights”).
In theaters April 30, 2010.
