In preparation for their annual Video Game Awards, Spike TV has put up a quick glimpse of the trailer for the new Tron video game.  The game is currently set to release sometime in 2010 to coincide with the release Tron Legacy, the long-awaited sequel to the 1982 sci-fi flick Tron.  The original film was about a video game designer named Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) getting downloaded into his company’s mainframe and having to fight his way back to the real world by defeating the Master Control Program.  The sequel takes place in 2010 where Flynn’s son, Sam (Garrett Hedlund) is searching for his missing father.  The original Tron also inspired a video game, which was released in arcades in 1982.  For our younger readers, arcades were rooms which were devoted to video games and you put in quarters if you wanted to continue playing.  No one used the term “pwned” and 12-year-olds didn’t dare use gay or ethnic slurs against other players.  It was a simpler time.

Hit the jump to check out the brief footage from the upcoming video game.  The full trailer will be unveiled when the Spike TV 2009 Video Game Awards airs on December 12th at 8/7c.
